Sisson’s Mark Regains Form in Fillies Mile

Sisson’s Mark returned to her best form with a vengeance this weekend, taking out the million dollar Smackdown Fillies Turf Mile in convincing fashion. So rapidly did she make up ground, after having given away a huge start, that it was clear over the final furlong that she was going to win easily. A brave run from Gold From The Grave, also closing from rearward, kept the final margin down to a respectable length and a half. Vheissu completed the trifecta for the storming home brigade, another two lengths back, while a further couple of lengths back, almost in a separate race, several runners fought it out for the minor prizes.

Schitzngiggle won the jump comfortably, taking full advantage of rail and setting a very smart pace. Jockeys on the expected challengers chose discretion, and took up positions behind the leader. Bathsheba II out widest, Kornsnake and Saarahy closer in. Wondergirl Gitte came next and then Vindictive Eden. Silent Screem settled outside White Knuckles. Gold For The Grave moved across effortlessly towards the rear of the field, while Vheissu and Sisson’s Mark showed no interest at all in the early scramble

Schitzengiggle continued to set a cracking pace, opening up a clear gap and causing the field to spread right out. By the half mile she had controlled the race to her liking while the field strung out over more than a dozen lengths. Then the first cracks began to show. Bathsheba II, Kornsnake and Saarahy began to close the gap on the leader. Vindictive Eden was making good ground. Then Gold For The Grave started putting in big strides out wide.

Into the straight and the challengers from the rear began to appear in earnest. Sisson’s Mark burst through in the centre, quickly putting the issue beyond doubt as she motored home to victory.

Gold for the Grave couldn’t match strides with the winner, but ran a strong, clear second

Vheissu kept her ITM record intact with another strong late run.

Vindictive Eden kept fighting to line, the best of five who finished within a length of each other.

Bathsheba II and Kornsnake raced together throughout, with the former taking the last prize and White Knuckes also crossing the line simultaneously.

Wondergirl Gitte showed early face before fading. She returned a triple digit rating despite finishing eighth

Silent Screem never got into the event.

Schitzngiggle capitulated once the pressure was applied.

Saarahy held a good position early but faded badly

Demonic Presence raced midfield, but appeared to pull up sore after compounding badly.

Sisson’s Mark is a three year old daughter of Mark of Esteem from Jumbo A.P. (A.P. Indy / Riverman). This was her fifth win from thirteen starts and lifts her earnings above one million dollars. She ran the mile in 1.34.4, shaving a 0.2 of a second off last year’s time, while returning a speed rating of 108. Previous rated # 9 in her division, this Grade One win elevates her to # 3.

Binzaman02 is a member of the 20 barn “Binzaman Stables”, all stables (except one STC) being active supporters of Pastures of Green. Sisson’s Mark is the headline act in the full barn of mainly two and three year olds.

At the Window: Despite two of our three selections finishing in the money, we missed the winner and therefore any chance of an exotic payout. However, we did recommend an across the board bet on Gold For The Grave. A $6 outlay there returned $19.30
