Lightseeker (IRE) Scores Win For GR Simsters
One of the final Smackdown series of races was the six furlong turf sprint for fillies, the thirteenth race on the card. As many of the racing world has become aware, the GR Simsters residency took home the overall prize of winning residency in the Smackdown challenge. Helping the GR Simsters to their victory overall was a victory here in the filly turf sprint for GR Simsters member lenny3, who owed second betting choice in the turf sprint, Lightseeker (IRE), the impressive four-year-old chestnut daughter of relatively new stallion, North Light (IRE).
When the race was set to go on a sunny Florida afternoon over the inner turf track, the field of thirteen fillies broke easily from the starting gate and took off onto the turf track. Speeding out to an early half length lead from post position five was Whispering Sound, owned by given2 from the GR Simsters residency. Just behind Whispering Sound was the The six-year-old Whispering Sound continued to maintain her lead over Lightseeker (IRE) by half a length. La Santa Cruz was making an early move now in the six furlong sprint and had already overtaken Bullets To Spare and Redoute’s Niner (AUS) on the inside. Redoute’s Niner had a slight edge on the fourth position with Bullets To Spare right behind in fifth. Super23 owned Hollaback Girl was making a move on the outside of the field as was Ganglord, owned by simsters6, who was gradually coming up further back in the field. Trailing the field now was the race favorite, Rudy, who is owned by stupor1. Rudy was over eight and three-fourth lengths off the pace at this point in the race, a very uncharacteristic position for the five-year-old daughter of Bestyoucanbe. Her situation wouldn’t improve any thorough out the race as she continued to drop back, leading some in the stands to believe the filly had been injured. Nearing the finish line, second-betting choice Lightseeker (IRE) took the lead away from Whispering Sound who was fading in this later portion of the race. Still in third was La Santa Cruz who was gaining with every stride on the fading Whispering Sound under jockey C. Stubbs. Making a big move and letting loose like a rocket on the outside was Hollaback Girl. Behind them, Three Taps, Ganglord and Tenacious V were coming on strong. Redoute’s Niner (AUS) along with Bullets To Spare were fading badly now, with the rest of the field far back as the pack of thirteen fillies made their way to the wire. At the wire, second betting choice, Lightseeker (IRE) brought home the victory by one and one-fourth lengths in 1:09 1/5 for lenny3, jockey A. Darling and in turn one more victory for the GR Simsters. Hanging on in second was La Santa Cruz with jockey W. Case aboard. Rounding out our on the board finishes was the late charging Hollaback Girl, owned and trained by super23 from the DelPenn residency. Rounding out our order of finish in this years filly turf Smackdown sprint was: Whispering Sound, Three Taps, Ganglord, Tenacioius V, Redoute’s Niner (AUS), Bullets To Spare, Harney Hornet, Dehenny, Point Counterpoint, and Rudy.
