Fantastic Mix of colts run with Death’s Angel

The 12th race in New York is the Turf marathon for 3 year old colts. Smackdown crosses path with the three residencies in New York, bringing the best of the best out. It should be a great day and a fun day. Good luck to all three residencies, and to the winner: try to not rub it in anyone’s face too much.
1. BAD BEATS(ENG) -remedy -S Buda- 18/1 – Minnesota Downs

Doza enters this son of Beat Hollow. Bad Beats won last time out over 10 furlongs, the closest he’s come to today’s distance. He as two wins in nine career turf starts and has just over 57k in prize money. As Bad Beats stretches out the question to ask will be will he try and lead or will he stalk teh lead. He’s done both with varying degrees of success.

2. IMPACTED(JPN) -artracing – R Haffner – 11/1 – Minnesota Downs

Selurnivek has Minnesota’s second entry. The son of Deep Impact has won three in a row and four of six, including one at today’s distance. He steps up in class from allowances, but the 96 speed figure at 12 furlongs is impressive nevertheless. He’s 4 for 7 on the grass and has 90K in purse money thus far.

3. DIVINE STRIKE(IRE) -waremblem3- S Coomer – 17/1 – GR Simsters

Winterfell Racing enters this 17/1 shot a son of Holy Roman Emporer. His last race was at this distance but was on a yielding lawn. He placed in that race a Residency Restricted affair. He travels back to New York from longchamp bringing a career two wins in nine turf tries. With 247k in prize money, it would be difficult to count him out.

4. RAZONABLE(KY) -2aussie – T Johnson – 9/1 – Minnesota Downs

Rafa saddles this son of Aragorn for the Minnesotians. Never having run this far, all of his previous races indicate that he’ll like the increased distance. A closer with 4 turf wins in 10 tries and 114k in earnings. Razonable posted a 98 over 9.5 furlongs two back and if he can bring that kick to this race he will be very dangerous.

5. SPARTIATE(ENG) -wicked – J Migliore – 5/1 – GR Simsters

Daninja brings the 3rd place finisher from the Derby de English to New York. He ran a 101 in that race over this distance. The son of Pivotal had also previously run this distance in the Sydney Derby. Spartiate has done a lot of traveling in his young career already so this trip in from Epsom shouldn’t affect him at all. A strong contender, and good value at 5/1.

6. DEATH ANGEL(KY) – fairhaven1- W Jenkins – 28/1 – GR Simsters

Lenny has the first of back to back entries here. This the longest shot in the field has won three in a row including that Residency Restricted race mentioned earlier on the yielding turf. He’s never put up the speed numbers of some of the others here, but he has the knack of winning, having won 3 of 8 on turf. Before the last race he had spent much of his career in Saratoga, but ships to Belmont for today’s challenge. The son of Mineshaft will likely sit about 6 furlongs behind the leaders early and then make a late run.

7. THE GUN WENT OFF(KY) – lenny12-N Lawton – 7/2 – GR Simsters

Lenny’s other entry is the favorite on the board. The second place finisher in both the adelaide derby and the derby de english, there is a lot of experience at the distance. Also a son of Mineshaft (mental note on that) has raced only 3 times on turf with 1 win, but has 977k in earnings. He was racing in graded dirt races before making the jump to turf marathons.

8. DEEP CAUSEWAY(JPN) – metro – N Painter – 16/1 – Minnesota Downs

The Chuckrock Conglomerate is allowed to participate in today’s event with this son of Deep Impact. He has gotten better with increasing distance but has not raced above allowance level. He has 3 wins in 7 turf tries and just over 50k in earnings. Last out he posted a 93 speed over 11 furlongs, which was only good enough for 3rd in an open allowance.

9. FANTASTIC MIX(FR) -spaderacin – B Child – 8/1 – Minnesota Downs

Selurnivek enters this son of Linamix who has won 2 of the last 4 tries including a stakes over 11 furlongs. He has 4 wins over 7 turf tries lifetime and ships in from Italy for this event. His top recent speed of 104 would put him in the mix here, but that was over 9 furlongs and the extra room may be difficult to navigate.

10. BARB SAVES THE DAY(KY) -jakematt3 – R Foster -22/1 – DelPenn National

Jakematt stables has this son of Theatrical primed winning his last two races. Unfortunately both were at far shorter distances than this. His high speed was a 96 last out on the yielding turf of Epsom in an allowance. Three wins and three places in seven turf tries means this horse is pretty special. The step up in class and the extra panels will make this a tought jump all at once though.

11. HELL WYRM(ENG) – tripwire – P Davis – 16/1 – GR Simsters

Given’s Medicean son has gone this distance his last two times out, but only one of those races was succesful. The 100 posted two back shows that this horse can get this distance, The poor 9th place showing in the Derby de English however, may show that he doesn’t belong in this class. Only time will tell with this one. Five wins in eleven turf races makes one have to respect him though.

12. DELPENN GOLD(IRE) – sdmf2 – A Sailor – 9/1 – DelPenn National

Sdmf’s has three of these final four outside horses. This one, a sone of sadler’s wells, has shown over his last three races to ike the distance on the turf. He posted a 98 speed two backat this exact distance. He has two win in five turf chances including a stakes win last out. Earning over 77k this year, Delpenn Gold is in with a chance here if he doesn’t bounce.

13. PROCLAWINGS(ENG) – super6 – E Cunningham – 17/1`-DelPenn National

Super Stables gained ownership of this colt at the beginning of the year and has run him five times since. He has won two of those races, but both at shorter distances than here today. He has 136k career earnings and has won five in twelve over the lawn, so he knows how to win. His one try with super over 10 furlongs was disappointing as this Proclamation colt may not like the distance.

14. HITHER HILLS(KY) – sdmf4 – B Dirks – 11/1 – DelPenn National

Eight races thuis far out of this Gone West colt for Sdmf has produced three wins, all over the turf. He had been sprinting until recently and still hasn’t run longer than 8.5 furlongs. He seems to be getting better posting in the mid 90’s in his last three, but would need a jump here to compete.

15. LET IT BURN(KY) – sdmf6 – G Rolling – 22/1 -DelPenn National

A litely raced Seeking the Gold who just broke his maiden is Sdmf’s last hope. He posted an 89 over good turf in Monmouth last out and should progress forward off of that effort. It wouldn’t surprise to see this one in with a chance within the final furlong.
