Who Will Crash and Burn in Firey Car Challenge?

Vermont is featuring a wide-open marathon contest this weekend:  the Firey Car Challenge, a 14-furlong affair on the dirt.  It’s pretty much anyone’s race, with the longest shot of all going off at 7/1.

Frozen Reality            Bulletday9       5/1       Came Home colt has had good success in these longer races, finishing a strong   second in his last two. Has a good shot at doing well here, despite a less-than-stellar jockey.

Sinanju                        Frosty              7/1       3yo won handily at 12 furlongs last time out, though it was against a very small field.  Impressive lately at 9.5 furlongs, this race will be an excellent test of his long-distance capability.  Still has some questions to answer about how well he’ll do going this long against a decent field, but it looks like he has a decent chance at excelling.

Bullet Punch               imaclown         9/2       A superb performer on off tracks, he’s more of an also-ran in races like this one.  Consistently picks up a few bucks and bps, I’d expect more of the same here.

Renown                       Sanchez           3/1       Prerace cofavorite is starting to look shaky, disappointing in his last two after a very impressive string of five wins.  Will he be back on top today?  He’s been off a while for what looks like a needed rest and may need a tuneup before he’s at his best again.  Still, with his record and a terrific jock aboard, everyone will need to watch him very closely.

Elkano                        Zelamy                        3/1       The other cofavorite seems to be slowing down a few steps of late, but is still capable of a big race.  Just ran two weeks ago, but that race was bad enough that it may not have taken much out of him.  Suspect he’ll run brilliantly or awfully.

Debee Furniture         Inzy5                5/1       6yo picks up paychecks regularly in races like this one, though he rarely runs a great race.  Consistent plugger is likely to do his usual routine and earn his hay for the week.

Tiz the Key to Win     Dougiec           6/1       Has been pretty far back lately when going 12+ furlongs (though he’s done better in the past).  A very big race could have him doing well, but I’d expect a more mediocre effort.

Good luck to everyone and may all your horses come back safe and sound!
