The Cryogenics Juvenile (G3)

Well, folks, I looked it the word ‘Cryogenics’ up online and found this:  “Cryogenics is the study of how to get to low temperatures and of how materials behave when they get there.”  Well, all you gotta do to get to low temperatures is go to Montana.  Duh?!?  But if you are wondering how a horse will behave when they get there, well, leave it to Bigbaba to tell you how they will behave or at least his outlook on how they will behave in this “Cryogenics Juvenile,” a Grade III Stakes race for 2 year olds.  In the “Juvenile,” the youngsters will be running a distance of one mile on the fast dirt competing for the lion’s share of a $150,000 purse.  Let’s get to it.

(PP1 – 10/1) Stephen Got Odd, of the Kbear stable, is a question mark in this one.  This Stephen Got Even X Storm Cat X Graustark colt will be making his first venture out of MSW company.  He has been very competitive in his MSW races against a lot of competition.  He has hit the board in 3 of his 4 career races and has improved his SP # each time he has stretched out on the dirt.  His best SP # to date (an 82) was his last out where he came from 4 ¾ lengths back to win by 1 ½ lengths.  If he continues to improve, Stephen Got Odd could hit the board again today.

(PP2 – 14/1) Red Robin(SAF), of the Dragnil stable, is one of the more experienced colts in this race.  This Horse Chestnut(SAF) X Roberto X Fappiano colt, has hit the board in 4 of 6 races, earning $67,868 along the way.  Currently ranked # 114 in the dirt sprint category, Red Robin(SAF) will try to see how he can handle a mile today.  He has improved his SP # each time he has stretched out in distance, from 5 furlongs to 6 ½ furlongs, but this 8 furlong race could be more than he wants.  If he fires close to his last out, where he fired an 80 SP # in a Grade III sprint, he could be a top 5 finisher today.

(PP3 – 9/1) Cayjun of the Greg5 stable, is another experienced colt in this one.  In his 6 races to-date, has finished first or second in 4 of them, and he has been running in some big fields.  This Worldly Manner X A.P. Indy X Baptism(GB) colt is currently ranked # 67 in the dirt sprint category and # 134 in the dirt classic category.  He didn’t fire in his first try at Stakes company, but rebounded on his second attempt in his last out where he won by a 1 ¼ after stalking the leader over 6 ½ furlongs.  Cayjun has run 7 furlongs before, but has never been a mile.  He could compete in this one, however, since he has run SP #s in the 80’s.  It really all depends on how he handles the distance, since Stakes company and large fields are something he is used to. I like his placement here.

(PP4 – 13/1) Shinzaun, of the Twopump stable, is another ranked sprinter making the jump from sprints to the classic.  This West Acre X Pulpit X Best Turn colt is a nicely improving colt with only three career races, but he has improved each time out.  He has also competed against Stakes company twice so far.  His 84 SP # put him up there with the other competitors in this race.  It all depends on how Shinzaun can handle the distance.  If you are looking for a nice payoff, this one warrants your attention.  He could steal this one from everyone.

(PP5 – 10/1) Queenly Saint, of the Zapspride stable, will be taking on the boys today.  This filly can handle the distance.  She only has two career races, but she has won them both, by a combined total of 5 ½ lengths.  She broke her maiden in her debut over 9 furlongs and followed that up with an Allowance race at a mile distance where she improved her SP # from a 72 to an 82.  This Kingmambo X Saint Ballado X Chieftain filly could upset the boys today.  Queenly Saint is another nice bet if you are looking for a payoff.  I think she could finish in the money, even against the boys.  Nice placement for Zapspride.

(PP6 – 6/1) Karem’s Bait Shop(IRE), of the Super22 stable, has never finished worse than 2nd in three career races.  He will be tested today in this very competitive field.  This Giant’s Causeway X Mr. Prospector X Slewdledo colt is currently ranked # 44 in the dirt classic category, but could improve that ranking today.    Karem’s Bait Shop(IRE) won his debut in MSW then made the jump to Stakes, where he has finished 2nd twice.  He has improved each time out and fired a career high SP # (83) in his first try at a mile last time out.  He could be there at the end, but this closing colt will have company coming down the stretch.

(PP7 – 15/1) Sea All Star, of the Dvtka1 stable, will have to like the longer distance and improve his SP # to hit the board in this one.  This Sahm X Lyphard X Seattle Slew colt has won both of his career races, both sprints, one on dirt and one on turf.  The SP # in his last out could be deceiving, however, since it was on turf, so a comparison to dirt could mean a bigger improvement over his debut race.  But again, he will have to like the distance and show he can improve that number to compete here.  Tough field today.

(PP8 – 19/1) Azroc Of Humor, of the Resting stable, is the long shot of the race.  The Resting stable picked a tough spot for this filly.  This Distorted Humor X Sadler’s Wells X Guilty Conscience filly has 3 career races and won her debut, but has had trouble in Stakes company.  Every one of her career races have also been on the turf.  So, she is not only running against the boys in a Grade III, but she is also trying dirt for the first time.  She has run 8 ½ furlongs before but fared better in her sprints.  I really think this is a bad placement for Azroc Of Humor.

(PP9 – 11/1) Wraith Point, of the Freddurst stable, is a 2nd time starter after winning her debut in MSW company.  So she makes a jump to a Grade III and tries going from a sprint to a mile.  I hope this Point Given X Forty Niner X Chieftain filly can handle all she is being asked to handle in this one.  She is like a couple of other entries, take on the boys, step up in class, try a new distance or surface or both.  WHEW!!  I think it is too much too fast, but I guess that is why ya run the races, huh?  Doubtful of a top 5 finish here.

(PP10 – 13/1) In The Neck, of the Bigblueone stable, has 2 career races and his SP #s have yet to hit the 80 plateau.  But, his last out was in the slop, so that could translate into a larger # on fast dirt.  This More Than Ready X Danzig X Gone West colt will have to improve and show that he likes the distance to compete here.

(PP11 – 17/1) Northern Tizzy, of the Stlcards2 stable, is a steadily improving colt.  He has had 4 career races and has won two of them, one a Stakes race.  He seems to be a nice choice at a long shot hitting the board if you like long shots, since he has improved with each increase in distance.  This Cee’s Tizzy X Magesterial X Topsider colt is a front runner, so look for him to battle for the lead and try to hold off the closers in this one.

(PP12 – 5/1) Depravity, of the Funster stable, is the morning line favorite.  This 2 year old colt has won 3 of 6 career races.  Depravity is currently the # 5 ranked dirt sprinter and the # 16 ranked dirt classic 2 year old.  I am not sure how they compose the rankings since this Red Bullet X Deputy Minister X Mr. Prospector colt has yet to run the classic distance.  Interesting.  Today  will be his first try at a mile distance.  This colt can handle Graded Stakes company as he showed in his Grade II ‘Faber College Juvenile’ win.  In his last two races, Depravity has fired high 80 SP #s and if he can handle the distance should have no problems with the company in this race.  He should hit the board today.

(PP13 – 6/1) So Slew Me, of the Babyfarms stable, has hit the board in 4 of 5 career races and has won 3 of those 5.  This Belong To Me X Seattle Slew X Storm Cat colt seems to be fairly inconsistent in his races.  Although he is currently ranked # 8 in the dirt classic category, his last race is probably the reason for that ranking.  So Slew Me will be making his 3rd try at the mile distance in this one.  He has had good success in his previous two treks at a mile, winning both, one an allowance race, and the other the Grade III ‘Pea Patch Juvenile.’  He made a huge jump from a 76 SP # in the allowance win to a 94 SP # in his Grade III victory last time out.  If you believe in a horse turning it up a notch to compete with his competition, then So Slew Me is the horse to beat in this one.  If you don’t believe in that philosophy, but believe that his last race was a fluke then I wouldn’t take him here.  There are more consistent entries in this one.  One thing you can be sure of, everyone will be watching # 13 in this one.

(PP14 – 18/1) Andswaru, of the Quickcall stable, is another long shot in this one and for reasons mentioned above.  This Smarty Jones X Machiavellian X Damascus filly will be running her first race against the boys in her first Stakes race, a Grade III at that.  She did win her first try at a mile distance, but it was in MSW company and her 72 SP # leave her near the back of the pack in this one.  If she can improve on that outing, handle the company and the boys, she should be fine, but my money says she won’t even compete in this one.
