None of these colts are goats and none will faint. These are some really fine looking babies and they really cover the full spectrum of two year old racing.  Some may be reaching for the stars right away because they will never be closer than they are right now, while others are emerging into long term constellations of the sim.  Can you tell than apart right now?  I am not certain I can but I tried to look at some of the variables under the hood of these lawnmowers and I hope it will give you a little insight into how their breeding may have helped influenced their fast starts.  Good luck to all the connections because there is nothing more exciting than potential and possibility.

PP 1  BAMBOLE(ENG) Tr. gorytus Jky  S Tevex  ML 99/1

Enters this race off a somewhat slow score in a maiden claimer, but a win is a win. This one may wind up being the best ever sired by Alflora (one of only two runners so far this year) who only has a 185k in earnings as a sire since 2001. His 5×5 pedigree chart shows a lot of nice names for a quality turf runner despite the lesser known names utilized to get them.  They are babies so throw the morning line out but he may still be in a bit deep with the rest of this field

PP 2  STC WOLF(IN) Tr.gwolfstc Jky S Shady ML 19/1

Enters the race off a score on an off dirt track with an impressive 75 spf and now switches to turf.  He is an interesting use of Saint Ballado (through his sire Saintly Look) Ela-Mana-Mou, (DS Almaarad(ire)) and Storm Cat and should like the added ground of this 6.5f race.  Showed excellent late burst closing in the slop but that was a low level MSW, now his connections are rolling the dice hoping to hit a graded jackpot.  Intriguing at 19-1.

PP3  NINE POURS(FR) Tr. dundey Jky J Plumber ML 14/1

Dalipour the son of Sadler’s Wells looks like a real chip off the old man’s block here and the cross to Forty Niner never hurts. This one comes in off a near miss at this level in last out. He likes to press the front end, and in a baby race I like being towards the front. Should like the added ground from last 4.5 try.  If the pace is moderate and he gets his spot I would not be surprised by a major step up. Worth a second look with any of these and his experience at the graded level is a major plus.

PP 4  ROCK SLEW(IRE) Tr. newvictory Jky C Jericho ML 14/1

Sired by Rock of Gilbralter he lives up to his name in the back end of his pedigree. He is 3×4 to Seattle Slew and also inherits ROG’s tight Northern Dancer inbreeding. An interesting 5×5 cross to Prince John as well.  You’d look at the way he gets the crosses and you might not expect the tremendous speed this one shows. He ran 79 in his first out score last race, so any step up off that performance would make him a major factor in this race. I feel a bounce, but if you don’t, you could play this one.

PP5  ONE SIZE FITS ALL(AUS)  Tr. hansg Jky D Aniel  ML 5/1

The gorgeous backend support lent by AP Indy x Storm Cat is evident in this fantastic looking son on Grey Swallow.  He has three high grade efforts under his belt and looks ready to make a big step forward. The morning line second choice enjoys the super successful 4 x 5 cross to Secretariat and a 5 x 5 to Buckpasser.  After running from off the pace in his debut, he has been on the lead in his last two and if he runs his race he will be tough to beat.  Consistency is a virtue for 2 year olds and this one has shown some.

PP 6 BOGNA REGIS(ENG) Tr. uproad  Jky J Diggs ML  8/1

Another horse that is bearing the fruit of a classic back end pairing  Danzig x Troy.  Frosh sire Authorized a son of Monteju is the proud daddy of this FTO winner. His only victory is an average speed score in an MSW so his status on the morning line shows a healthy degree of respect for his pedigree.  He can run near the lead and you would think the added distance should agree with him. He will need a large step up from his first race to get involved in this race but does look like that is a real possibility.

PP 7 AWESOME ALLEGIANCE(AUS) Tr. reigart  Jky A Edwards ML  8/1

This internationally bred colt benefits from some of the biggest names in turf.  Austarlia’s Encosta De Lago, New Zealand’s Zabeel and Canada’s Vice Regent are all prominent.  After losing a maiden he bounced back with a solid 75 in a stakes score. Nice way to break a maiden huh?  Will likely lay back early in the race and then make his move to the front. 5 x 5 to Klairon and  Sir Ivor the added distance should be warmly embraced. I would not bat an eyelash if he won, so look him over carefully.

PP 8 BUGATTI VEYRON(AUS) Tr.  corky A Breadfan ML 25/1

This full blooded Aussie has made three starts and has never been worse than second, but has not yet broke the 70 spf barrier. He will likely need to do so here to get a check of any kind or even a few bps.  4 x 4 to Danzig through Perguino and Danehill says the added ground is desirable. He has run in some big races thus far and is a length or two away from being a double stakes winner, so dismiss at your own risk or capitalize on the value of 25-1 with a horse that has never been well beaten.

PP 9 SCRUTINEER(ENG) Tr. walshy Jky  T Nugent  ML 6/1

Perhaps the best pedigree we have seen so far. Red Ransom x Kingmambo x Seattle Slew.  The results are free of crosses besides a 4×5 to Nahua. He has shown outstanding speed so far and his 78 spf last time out is as good as any in the field, but it came in a second place finish. Despite looking great on paper he is only 1-3. If the winner doesn’t go well over 80, then this guy may be the winner. Look for him to stalk then charge around mid race.

PP 10 CHILL OF A STAR(IRE) Tr. josefine K Marky ML 7/1

This son of  one of Europe’s leading sires Galileo is undefeated in two starts. He is impeccably bred on his dam side as well featuring Kris S x  Fappiano. The results have been as good as the 4×4 to Mr. P and 4×5 to Hail to Reason look in his chart.  Another runner with a stalking style will mean the ride will be crucial on this one as well. Combine breeding and early past performances and it will be hard to set any in front of  Chill of a Star.  Look for him in the winner’s circle again.

PP 11  PJ CREDIT LINE(AUS) Tr. foggydew W Cox  ML 11/1

This son of Oratorio won his first out and enters here off of that performance. He lacks the experience of tough competition some of the more likely winners have, but the 73 spf stands up here.  4×5 to Mr. P through the uncommon route of Our Emblem and the dam Prospector’s fire he should be speedy.  War Emblem his dam sire has been surprisingly good as a sire of long turfers despite being a dirt horse himself.  The horse that ran second in his MSW win flattered the performance by winning in his next race. Not my choice but no one could fault you for making him yours.

PP 12 BUDA STORM(KY) Tr. vicki Jky R Harzheim ML 9/2

The morning line favorite looks like the one to beat and he was beautiful bred to be a champion on turf.  Rahy x Danzig x Storm Cat screams class and his 79 in his last win says the blood is pumping in his heart too.  5 x 5 to Nearco and 5×5 to the dam of Natalma, and Cosmah.  The pedigree chart is a beautiful thing.  The crossed dam Al Mahmoud is Grand Dam to two turf Giants Halo and Northern Dancer.  She should be speedy, like the extra ground and has the experience to win.  You’ll have to beat him if you want to cash a ticket on someone else.

PP 13 CHILL OF THUNDER(IRE) Tr. ccc JkyJ Henson ML 6/1

Starting from the far outside is the son of  High Chaparal x Giant’s Causeway. He lost his debut but apologized promptly in his next race by scoring by nearly two lengths and posting a 77 spf in the process. He has great bloodlines and  his 5×5 chart is a who’s who of the sim.  He is the third choice and he fits well with everything to his inside.  You have to like everything you see other than the lack of quality opposition present in this race. Would not be even slightly surprising if he scored here.

Final Thoughts

When looking at a race like this one you have to wonder how much to use the breeding you see as opposed to the past performances. These horses are all still developing and some will develop a lot in this race. Some may be nearly as good as the are ever going to be.  Right now it looks like you could throw a blanket over the top 3 or 4 choices and you still might not catch the winner with it.  I will choose Chill of a Star based on a gut feeling not really much else could justify picking one for certain.  I think you are seeing several stars of the future in this race so sit back and enjoy.
