Here’s a preview of this week’s featured The CAPONE Stakes field:

Breaking from the hedge is Marsattack’s veteran lawnmower, The Beast Goes On.  Six year old Beastie has lost a step or two since his glory days but the dual grade II winner can still fire a big bullet on occasion.  Will this be one of those days?

Resevoir Dog has been a nice claim for crafty high percentage trainer Benharper.  But the big Giant’s Causeway stallion has never had much luck in allowances, much less stakes company.  This will be his first career added money event and he looks seriously overmatched.

Millionaire Obscene Male has drawn post three.  Club10’s handsome son of Spinning World is best remembered as the 2003 Grade I. United Countries hero at Atlantic City.  In that event he spotted arch rival Sarahs Blues a huge lead in what was a virtual match race.  Obscene Male came charging down the middle of the racetrack to nip Blues by the narrowest of noses in a stirring finish.  Meanwhile, the third place horse, Chronic Vacuum, finished some twenty-nine lengths behind the embattled millionaires.  Obscene Male may be past his prime but that back class allows him a shot to do it on memory alone.

Next in line is outsider Flawless Victory.  Jacklad’s well bred (Kingmambo x Storm Cat) sophomore shows a lot of promise.  The flashy chestnut has won four of his last five races and comes off a romping score in a tough Irish allowance.  Not to be dismissed despite his odds.

Jam Today is one of those horses that every trainer would love to have in his barn.  Phalaris’ homebred runs his heart out every time he steps on the track and has hit the board in twenty-five of his thirty-five career starts.  Although he’s not won a stake yet, he’s been close on several occasions and cannot be ruled out.

Miltinho sends out his highly consistent four year old Fluminence for this test.  The son of Deputy Minister arrives in peak form having finished first or second in four straight including a win and place in stakes at this exact distance.  Major threat today.

Veteran conditioner Marianus sends out his fast and classy Crimson Prospector in search of his one-hundred-forty-first career training triumph.  Known primarily for his extreme success with younger horses (Kepler Gnaget, Kepler In Desert, Kepler Carson, etc.), Marianus has the five year old Red Ransom horse in peak form for this event.  Look for the graded placed stakes winner to be running late from well off the early pace.

Favored Ronaldo’s Sword is a multiple stakes winner who has missed the board in only two of nineteen career starts.  Jh’s five year old homebred Pentelicus stallion has won three turf stakes in his last six outings.  His “drop from the clouds” style has produced enough drama lately to leave his backers breathless.  He turned a thirteen length deficit into a going away victory two back.  Last time out his big rally left him a half length shy of the winner.  The one to beat.

Come out early as the first two thousand fans will receive a free autographed copy of Tbgifted’s new book, “Ela-Mana-Mou and Me.”
