“Grim” Outlook for These Horses.
Standing along the rail at Monmouth Park in New Jersey we are getting set to run down the JUNIOR CHEVRON Memorial Stakes Race named 9 times turf winner Junior Chevron. This mile and three sixteenths $65,000 turf Stakes race for all horses three years and up may be running through the raindrops as light rain is forecast for this weekend. We’ve got a nicely matched field though there are only four horses entered. Let’s take a look:
#1 BARB’S COMFORT(IRE) trained by marybarn – 2/1 morning line. Irish bred by Theatrical, this three year old colt had finished in the money 9 of 12 times 10 of which are stakes races. Stepping down from last out’s Grade One, this well-bred colt is very consistent and looks to be a contender here for sure. R Case is in the stirrups and knows how to bring his horses home.
#2 STEREOTYPICAL CAT trained by theleague – 7/5 morning line. This Tale of the Cat three year old had peeled off five straight triple digit speeds with three wins including a Grade one before his last time out. He stumbled a bit in that one, a Grade three but looks ready to get back to business. Before last race, he had also run well on off tracks which may come in to play here but it is his first outing on the grass and that may tickle his hooves.
#3 FIRE AND RAIN trained by vampire3 – 8/1 morning line. The veteran in the bunch is five year old Fire and Rain, a Rainbow Quest offspring that has finished third in his past three races. He as lots of early speed and should lead this race for the first three quarters. I’m afraid he will be fading and watching the field go by at the end though.
#4 GRIMNOSH trained by knightmare – 3/2 morning line. Trainer knightmare always seems to come up with interesting breedings and this four year old colt by Gold Legend is another of his winners. He just missed winning a Grade 2 in his last outing at the Firestruck Handicap on a messy track that may bode well here. He has nearly half a million in earnings and his veteran experience may show the youngsters a thing or two here.
STEREOYPICAL CAT has shown that he can run but he’s never shown it on grass. I like him for third with GRIMNOSH putting a few veteran moves on BARBS COMFORT to lead the way and pushing COMFORT back into second.
Good luck to all runners!
