New Leader in Old Man Series!
The Old Man of the Mountains Series III – Race 4
A mile on the Firm Turf Course
$50,000
All horses, 8 years old and up, Non-Winners of FOUR within the last year
There is a new leader in the clubhouse at the Old Man of the Mountain Series! LEGADILLO jumped out to the lead and never looked back to win the fourth chapter of this great series. The points from the race allowed him to move into the lead of the series by three points over WHISPER who finished fourth in the race but didn’t figure in the points. Some of the old guys were actually rooting for LEGADILLO as they are a bit leery of a mare winning this series if WHISPER were able to do it.
In the race itself, LEGADILLO took off like he was running down to the cafeteria and he must have been hungry as he never ran out of steam. COROKEYPRIN was close throughout but Irishman2 has been feeding him too well and he was not as hungry and never could quite catch up. He ended up second best. WHISPER was in tenth place nearly ten lengths back but started to move like a youngster. She caught most of the field in the stretch but was passed by the old Irish Leprechaun himself, CELTIC LEGEND who showed her what he thought of women in this race and showed her his tail to finished third. Host horse of the series, USA, couldn’t find his walker and may have injured himself trying to get out of the gate as he hobbled over the finish line awfully late last evening.
In a separate part of the race, in what we call the Sun Dial Standings, the race for last place is almost as coveted in the win in this series for Senior Citizens. The winner of the Sun Dial Trophy is held in high regard back at the old folks horme. It’s always a lot of fun to see who contends. There was a bit of a surprise at the back end. Our host in the series, USA pulled up early in the race and appeared to have an injury. He gained points toward the Sun Dial but you can bet that isn’t the end that he wants. Now it remains to be seen if he can be ready for the next race or not. He was followed for points by both RUBY ATTIC and PRESTO both of whom had points from previous races and solidified their spot at the top of the bottom standings, only one point apart..
There are still six races left in the ten race series and lots of things can happen including quite a few heart attacks and strokes among the participants, so it should be interesting down the road. That’s what makes this series so much fun.. Stay tuned Race Fans!
Best of luck to all of these fine old guys and gals!
