Mon Coup(IRE) captures Rah Pistolet Stakes

Mon Coup(IRE) justified her race favorite status by running away down the stretch to capture a win in this week’s Rah Pistolet Stakes. Her amazing eleventh career victory in nineteen starts was also her seventh in stakes competition. Her 101.1 speed figure eclipsed the old mark for this annual stakes by nearly twelve points. The win boosts her career earnings to the $435040 mark, nearly twenty thousand a race for this up and coming filly out of Montjeu by Kingmambo. The stakes victory moved her up one place in the older female’s Long Turf division, taking her to a rank of number 17 overall. There was no joy at the betting windows this week, as the oddsmakers called this one right down the line, and with the short odds, payouts were sparse. The winner paid $3.70 $2.10 $2.10 across the board. Exotics were particualrly miserable, with the exacta paying a mere $4.30, and an even more mediocre $5.20 payout in the trifecta.

Salfly’s Spur(AUS) jumped out in front early in this one, and without much pressure, she controlled the early pace in this one. She had over four lengths on the nearest horse at the first call, and as they reached the half, she was cruising with a seven and a half legth cushion. In a somewhat scary moment for her trainer, Mon Coup(IRE) started moving on the lead before they had even crossed the half post. The early break for the front didn’t affect her though as she began to eat up ground between herself and the leader in methodical fashion. Salfly’s Spur(AUS) put up a game effort, only giving up four of the nine and a half lengths separating them as they past third call, but as they crossed into the stretch, she didn’t have anything left, allowing Mon Coup(IRE) to pass her on the inside. The stretch belong completely to Mon Coup(IRE), as she rolled up lengths down the stretch, crossing the wire four and a quarter lengths ahead of second place Salfly’s Spur(AUS), in what was essentially a two horse race. Third place went to Crown Duchess, a distance thirty two and a quarter lengths out at the wire.
