Nasty Rages in Special
The Raging River Special, a Grade I event, was run at a distance of a mile and a half. The 9-2 favorite, K’s Hasty ‘N Nasty, just held on by a head to reap the glory of victory.
Dark Place and Frozen Four hooked up in an early battle for the lead. Just past the 1/2 pole, Dark Place gave up the lead to Frozen Four and rapidly fell back. The Trident and K’s Hasty ‘N Nasty battled off of the leaders early on, but together made a surge to the front end, over taking Frozen Four as they reached the 3/4 mark.
K’s Hasty ‘N Nasty dug in deep as the two galloped hard together and was able to hang on winning the Grade I stakes by only a head. K’s Hasty ‘N Nasty was my second choice, beating my top selection The Trident. K’s Hasty ‘N Nasty now has a 3-win race steak going, winning 4 of her last 5. The Trident continues her streak of not finishing worse than second since March of 2007.
War in Heaven took the third spot came on hard from the 7th spot, to finish third, beating the tiring Frozen Four (my third pick) by less than a length.
Orowell closed from 8th, 14 lengths back at one point, to pick up the 5th place check, closing to within 7 lengths of the winner.
Audacity ran 5th early and never made a serious effort settling in for a 6th place finish.
Willpower lacked just that…willpower. She was 4 lengths back at the quarter pole and just faded back from there, ending up 7th.
Kneel Before Zod once again showed her troubles at the starting gate, slowly leaving the gate, taking up the last spot, and spotting the field over a dozen lengths early on. She was over 17 back before closing back to 12 at the end, and finishing 8th.
Dark Places, as mentioned earlier, was in a tough battle for the lead early on. Her race ended half way through the race and she decended to the rear after that.
