Small field go in The Woodbine Racer

                            THE WOODBINE RACER STAKES

Fillies and mares, 3 years old, seven and half furlongs on the Firm Turf Course, Purse: $60,000

In today’s 10th race from Ireland is the $60,000 Woodbine Racer, where we only have four fillies going. It is a seven and a half furlong race on turf.

1.     DAZZ   9/5 – This filly is 5 for 7 ITM lifetime. Ran in a G3 two back and didn’t make a move at the stretch where she was in the lead and finished 5th by 4 ¾.  Her last out was in The Society Pye where she didn’t factor at all. She is by Beat Hollow out of a G3 winning Lear Fan mare Prospector Bluffy. As the 2007 campaign wound down she looked to be improving with every start. This writer thinks she had a hard time in her first start of ’08 w/ two turns and it showed her four weeks later in her next time out which was four weeks ago. She is a good 3yr old who has to step up better than her last two outings. Z Kentucky is on board.

2.    BIZARRO ELAINE   8/5 – Here is your morning line favorite. She has only run once on turf, her last out and came in 2nd in an Alw NW4L while she jumped her Sp# up to an impressive 94, getting caught by a head. This Distorted Humor filly has run nicely on dirt winning three races including a stakes and very impressively FTO on turf and trainer wrecked thinks she is more than capable of handling these fillies here. If she is to improve this lightly run 3yo could be one to watch later in the year. Jockey A Reed takes the mount.

3.    DANZIG WITH TESSA  5/2 – Has never finished worse than second in her five career outings for trainer ladyssecre. The Australian bred has built a nice foundation and intends on furthering it here. She likes to sit off the pace and make a late run. She hasn’t gone this far since last year but with her style I see it being no problem. M Fountain is in the irons.

4.    PAX AUGUSTA 3/1 – Winner of her last two, both at 9 furlongs or more. This Desert King filly is 7 for 8 ITM and has $104,105 Career earnings. She has done extremely well running routes and we only see her entry here is due to the small field. Another one who like to sit off the pace and since there isn’t going to be record fractions here I think she can be right there at the end.

HANDICAPPING INSIGHTS

In this small field we think we will take a shot against the favorite here and put $50 W/P on Danzig with Tessa.
