The Correlation Coefficient

This week’s big race in Kentucky is the Correlation Coefficient G1 race for 3 year old fillies and mares. They will be covering seven and a half furlongs on dirt and this field of 12 looks ready to go.

1.  (5/1) MISCALCULATION (KY) – fanatical – (unbridled’s Song X A.P. Indy) This flashy grey filly has no faults, 5 for 5 including 2 graded wins, which includes her lto. She had a nice grade 1 win in the Circusham Derby, where she won by 1 ¾ a length covering the 7 furlongs with a 98 speed. There is nothing not to like about this filly.

2. (12/1) INCREDIBLE CAUSE (KY) – tg –  (Giant’s Causeway X Septime Ciel)  This filly broke her maiden 8 starts ago and has had two stakes wins gong 7.5 furlongs since. She really likes this distance and should be happier here. She tried a couple of mile plus starts and did not enjoy the company, both times were also graded company. Will be happier here but in her last start going 7.5 she only finished a faded second.

3. (19/1) THUG NINER (ENG) – applefarms – (Tiger Hill X Forty Niner) this little girl has 5 starts with a win on both surfaces. Has been playing in allowance company but after a solid win going 7 furlongs to post a 93 speed she is taking a large jump in class. Should like the distance and trainer applefarms thinks that she can take the jump in class.

4.  (12/1) BASSETT GIRL (KY) – jockster –  (Woodman X Turkoman) This little girl has a good amount of experience with this race being her 15th start. She has won on both surfaces, and though talented has not hit the board in either of her graded attempts. Though, in her last 7 starts she was only off the board once other than her 2 graded tries, and that was for a race at a mile. Will be much happier here.

5. (11/1) BALLAD (KY) – super29 – (Elusive Quality X Saint Ballado) This little girl was the runner up in the Grade 1 Circusham Derby lto. She was closing but got held off by the speed daemon in gate 1 of this race.  Talented in her own rights, she got trounced solidly in her two starts before that one but in her start before that ran a brilliant 92 speed. If she is on today which she looks ready to go, she could play a factor here.

6. (5/1) MEAN GIRL (KY) – gg – ( Came Home X Machiavellian) This little Mean Girl, is a fast little filly. She posted a 99 speed in the G1 Vermont is 4 Lovers going 8.5 furlongs. Though she posted badly both 8.5 starts one was a career best speed. And the two mile attempts look to be her favorite distance. The last start for this filly was the G1 Circusham Derby where she finished 5th running out of closing room. Think that this race will help her close faster in future starts, and that 7.5 furlongs is close enough to 8 that she might be very happy.

7. (5/1) SLAVE TO AMBITION (KY) –  Gwyneth – (Distorted Humor X Aptitude) This little filly took a bit to grow into herself but once she did there was amazing. After breaking her maiden going a mile she hit the board twice in allowances before winning three races in a row the last one being a 7 furlong open stakes where she posted a 104 speed. Amazing! Though the next start was over the same distance as this race she only ran third, but after such a big run a bounce was necessary which puts her in position to do well today.

8. (7/1) LIMITED ADDITION (JPN) – kennyg – (Agnes Digital X Silver Deputy ) This is a consistent little filly, out of ten starts only off the board one time. After breaking her maiden first time out she proceeded to get beat on a good track. This filly has had quite a few off track starts, take those away and of those 7 she has 5 wins and 2 thirds. I would keep this filly on a fast track, and she is stepping up in distance here today.

9. (28/1) OFFICE BUSTER (KY) – okieslew – (Officer X Housebuster) This little girl has had a rough couple of starts, Trainer okieslew has informed me that she’s been badly  bumped or tripped in many of her last starts causing this little filly to lose her confidence. What was once a fast tough filly is now nervous and upset. Her trainer thought it best to give her a workout start over turf where she could have a change of scenery. It looks to have worked this filly looks fit and happy today.

10. (6/1) LUZERNE (KY) – malekfarms – (pulpit X Danzig) This royally bred filly is obviously talented in the looks department. Her glossy chestnut coat looks like a copper penny and she is obviously fit. She won her first two starts easily, the first she was lacking attention, second she gained blinkers and won very handily.  In her last start she looked like she was asking for distance, closing only to get out closed. Hopefully the extra half furlong will be to her liking here.

11. (9/1) COUSHATTA (KY) – fatattack2 – ( Unbridled’s Song X Damascus) This little grey is taking a step back today in distance having only made her first start going less than a mile. She broke her maiden and won 2 allowances going a mile and when she stepped up to a mile and one sixteenth she faded a little bit, taking her back will help her gain some of her closing speed and hope that she will like the shorter distance.

12. (9/1) POMEROY’S QUEST (FL) – pointblank –(Pomeroy X Coronado’s Quest)  This little chestnut filly is definitely a sprinter. She did not like her last race though it was against some very tough competition. She got bumped and barely had time to gain any ground. She performed well in the two races prior to that where she ran fast closing second and third with nice solid speeds. Will be much happier here today; consider her last race a throw out.

I think the 1 and the 7 will battle it down to the wire with the 12 and the 10 closing. Should be a very interesting race where you could make an argument for about every horse in the field may the best filly win.
