British Columbia – CAN (BC)
Saturday, June 12, 2021 — 1:10 PM EST | Race ID: 2694973
Stakes – Purse $100,000
Restricted to 4 Year Olds +
7 furlongs on Dirt

Today we are at Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver British Columbia for the ERC Ghostzapper, a 7 furlong race on the dirt featuring veteran racers from the famed barns of ERC owners/trainers.  They’re racing for the winner’s share of the $100,000 purse, with the victorious owner/trainer also collecting club stakes bonus points which will determine a club champion at year end. This is a closely matched group, so jockey tactics and racing luck will probably play important roles in determining the winner.

Here is a closer look at the field:

quidivididowns barn
l steele                         5/1

Out of the quidivididowns barn (newfy) is this seven year old son of NICHOLAS out of the Sim Mare PIONEER HEART. He comes in off three straight gate to wire wins at eleven furlongs on the dirt. He has shown consistent 100+ speed seven straight starts and ownership is hoping that his go to the front strategy will translate well to this much shorter distance. Since being claimed by newfy in April2020 he has finished in the money in nine of eleven starts and he has never run less than ten and a half furlongs.

necessary force
jbcri57 barn
j brewer                        10/1

Out of the jbcri57 barn is this four year old SEEK AGAIN filly out of the Sim Mare STORMY ALEXIS.  She has finished in the money in fourteen of her seventeen career starts including four wins. She makes her first Stakes start here after impressing with 100+ speed in the last three. She has demonstrated an ability to deliver the style that is most needed in the race and responds well to a Jockeys encouragement to get to the front or save ground. I think we may see her out front in this one.

dora g
eriedowns barn
s jones                         7/2

Out of the eriedowns barn is this six year old son of I AM INVINCEABLE out of the Sim Mare CLICK YOUR NINJA. He makes his first start on the dirt and a big drop in distance after nineteen starts at distances greater than ten furlongs. His last ERC start was a blazing 117 speed win at the “Kitten’s Joy” where he left the field in his dust and won by four and a quarter lengths. Can he translate that to this distance and surface? dunn is hoping for a big YES!!!

#1
smarty cat jones
dontbetonme9 barn
b jonas                         9/2

Out of the dontbetonme9 barn is this four year old scratch bred son of SMARTY JONES ( x PULPIT x STORM CAT).  He has finished in the money in twelve of his fifteen starts with an impressive six wins. He has face some very competitive fields of late and in his last start finished way back with winner NO DANE NO GAIN hitting 127 speed. He won’t face that here but he will need his best if he hopes to add to his win totals. He has had success at this distance and will definitely be one to watch as they head for home.

#6
gilded flicker
larrcamp13 barn
b bauder                      6/1

Out of the larrcamp13 is this four year old son of SKIPSHOT out of the Sim Mare SUMMER SEPOY. He comes in off three straight seventh place finishes with the most recent coming at the “Dynaformation Turf Dash”. He returns to the dirt here where he has had most of his success and will look for a sixth win on that surface. He has shown consistent 100+ speed in his last eight and ran career best 111 speed in his first start of 2021. If he can repeat that he will tough to beat.

#3
quality envelope
harrylanexp6 barn
h mccarthy                     24/1

Out of the harrylanexp6 barn is this four year old son of QUALITY ROAD out of the Sim Mare ENVELOPE PROVIDED. He comes in off an eighth place finish last time out in a experimental start on the turf. Two back he ran 106 speed on the dirt at this same distance in a runner-up finish at an Allowance Race in the Big Apple. He makes just his ninth start here today and may be primed for a career best performance and might need it against this impressive group of eight.

#2
elite division
amir1662 barn
a stewart                         7/1

Out of the amir1662 barn is this five year old scratch bred son of DORTMUND ( x SEATTLE SLEW x SECRETARIAT). He has finished in the money in eleven of his eighteen career starts and comes in off a win at the “Sir Bold King Dirt Dash” where he ran 113 speed over six and a half furlongs. He will likely sit middle of the pack in the early going and will look to run them down as they come down the stretch. He will see lots of speed here today but might just have enough to get it done. In the “Year of AMIR” we are quickly learning not to bet against his horses.

#7
battle ax
rac3 barn
j reiley                          2/1

Out of the rac3 barn (summerset) is this six year old son of STREET SENSE out of the Sim Mare CHILL’LAX. He comes in off a runner-up finish at an allowance race in Kentucky where he ran impressive 111 speed over nine furlongs. He has competed on dirt and turf and has had success on both but has not raced at less than eight furlongs in more than two years. He has lots of speed but tends to save ground early on and may need to change that strategy on the shorter track if he hopes to find a spot on the board.
