It’s An Auction Rollercoaster!

It’ An Auction Rollercoaster!

Auction 3497 – Wow – What a difference a week makes.  All facets of the auction were up and were people spending their money.  Ten horses went for well over a million dollars and I reviewed the five top sellers that were not obvious, at least to me, stable transfers.  With the top horses ranging in price from one to over five million it doubled the total sales and raised the average over $50,000.  Even the old guys did well with six of the horses over 10 years selling for more than a dollar. Yes, what a difference a week makes!

Auction Seen – All the way to the front door of the Members Lounge, a fancy name if you ask me as everyone belongs, I was praying that the fire would be lit in the old wood stove.   Much to everyone’s dismay, rain and sleet accompanied me in when I shoved my way in through the door. I was sure was glad to see that fire burning merrily and I gave a silent thank you to Genebaum for donating it to the sale barn.  Mark and Oldguy were helping all people out, not just me, by slamming the door shut against a mighty strong wind every time someone came in.  Of course they were probably being beguiled by the charms of Keeley, and Lisa who were among a group by the door.  Although I tried to shake my umbrella off discretely, I think I got a few people wet as I sure got some nasty looks from Grumpy and Polpot but that wasn’t unusual. It wasn’t until I made my way through the crowd to my table and sat down that I was able to stuff the offending umbrella down under my chair, take off my wet coat and look around.

Beeascout was showing Turkeyboy down to Lime and Appletree’s spot by the rail right next to Candyland who was sitting between Mountains and Fortmarcy.  Redhead and Redbullet were studding the catalog and I saw Texasace give me a wink as he walked by looking smug.  Louiethelu had 5Alive watching Tvg and insisting he had dropped the real Pick6 off at the OTB before coming here.  Goatracker dropped by with Desertdog and Woof right on his heels and I could hear my friend Screech coming from a mile away.  All the Bears were around, busy as Bees.  The chief Bear must have some kind of an awesome program over there in Chino as I never saw so much wheeling, dealing, transferring, moving and what not as goes on among that clan.  I don’t know how he keeps track of everything.  I put two horses in the auction and totally forgot to check on how well they sold until I saw all that money in my account – thank you Topicount and Troy.  Kindone came by and brought Hook and Fiesta06 and it is always fun to see Bung and Kendall.  I can’t name all the people who came by and sat down for a quick visit because I am old and forgetful which is the only good thing about being old as no one can prove otherwise.  Well, when all was said and done the auction was a big success this week and here are the ones that were really a success.

The Millionaires:  There are an awful lot of horses changing barns via the auction every week and while most stable transfers work – there is always someone out there with more money than you.  So if you can’t think ahead and move these horses as unraced horses into the stable of choice, beware, because there are a lot of sharks trolling the water.

Hip number 145975, Rockiavellian leads the way this week.  A grand looking, 4 YO chestnut colt by Rock Of Gibraltar was led into the ring by Globalism and after spirited bidding was led out by Fatattack2.  Rockiavellian is a stakes winner and six of his last eight winners produced triple digit speed figures.  Very lightly raced for his age, he has won six of his 11 races and was a wire to wire winner last time out in The Holy Quibble.  I am pretty sure this was a hostile takeover by one party of a planned stable transfer by another.  I could be wrong but unless it was a mistake, I can’t imagine putting a nice colt like this in the auction unless they had some really special 2 YOs or had a gambling problem.

Devils In The Mist, hip # 149761, is a smallish colt by Awesome Again.  The well made 4 YO is another that has his whole future ahead of him with only seven starts.  Consigned by Arse2007 he brought down the hammer for $4,445,015.  Although he has only won one race, he has been in the money four of his seven starts and that was good enough for Mardigras who signed the ticket.

Flyingfinn sold an older horse for $3,200,001.  PJ Lord Nelson, #79380, is a 7 YO dark bay or brown horse by Johannesburg and he still has what it takes as he has won three of his last four including The Little TC two back.  He has, in fact, won 15 of his 44 races and will hopefully perform just as well for his new stable, Plunk5.

Memphis Mafia # 148084 is a 4 YO chestnut colt by Tale Of The Cat.  He has won one of four races with increasing speed figures and although he has a low claim tag of $20,000 it will be a nice starter tag for new owner Paceman2 if he decides to go that route.  Texasace08 sold this one for $2,800,001.

The last of our top five, non stable transfers, is Savage Love #127158.  A well built 3 YO copper chestnut colt by Alwuhush, he is still a maiden but has finished in the money in two of his five starts.  He might have some potential as he ran very greenly in his first few and new owner Buzz is certainly hoping that that will prove true.  Yavapai sold this nice colt.

The Stc:

The Stc trainers were holding on to their money this week and only bought 11 horses.  The average sale price for this group was $842.27 and the total for the 11 was a paltry $9,265.00.  Invasorstc paid the most for one this week taking Waki Mountain BG, a 3 YO chestnut filly for $4,999.00.  She comes with lots of conditions and options.  A daughter of Mountain Cat she has won two of 13 starts and was sold by Fes977.  Mrstc was the leading buyer and spent $1,003.00 for three.

That’s it for this week.  Good Luck with all your auction purchases.
