Fat A.P. Memorial
The weatherman has promised us a beautiful racing day this weekend for the Fat A.P. Memorial in Spain(has he ever been wrong?). This 7f event will be run on the turf and features Globalized who puts her 5-win race streak on the line. Here’s how the field shapes up:
1. Get Your Scurry On 3-1 This 3 year old comes in lightly race and has her own 2-win race streak on the line. Her last race was against allowance company at 7.5f and produced a nice speed rating of 90. She likes to be up front and is likely to set the pace. She steps into her first career stakes race.
2. Blackened Crawfish 2-1 Throw out the last 2 races. She ran against a tough bunch in the Sawdust Handicap in last going a route. The time before was against an even tougher stakes grade 2 group. Blackened returns to a comfortable competitive level for herself. She has finished in the top 2 spots in 9 of her 11 races and hates to be beaten. Despite this, she last ran 2 weeks ago and is making a quick return to the track.
3. Globalized 6-1 Globalized has been on a hot run and drawing attention. She has won her last 5 races and this win streak is on the line. Additionally, she has shown improvement in her speed ratings in each race and moves back into stakes competiton here. I’m afraid her streak may end here, as others have better speed ratings as compared to her recent career best of 83.
4. Aces or Kaifs 12-1 Aces broke her maiden two back at a distance of 8f, going off at 17-1. This may have been a fluke. This mare has only 4 races and needs to show a bit more form.
5. Exotic Film 2-1 Exotic has won 4 of 8 starts and only finished off the board once. Earnings for the year are just over $150k. Exotic finished third in the Grade 3 Triangular Star Stakes, putting in a commendable effort. She takes a small drop down for this and drops back to a sprint.
6. Aquilue 5-1 Aquilue comes off a win on an off track against stakes company. Aquilue has won 3 of 10 races and oer $118k in earnings. The challenge for Aquilue is her speed. She has yet to exceed an 80 rating for speed, and will need to do so here to beat this field.
Get your cameras ready, as my top pick is for Exotic Film. She has put in excellent efforts in each of her stake appearances and should go well here. Get Your Scurry On show improvement each time out and looks to be the pace setter. Blackened Crawfish is my third choice, however, I am concerned about the quick return to the track.
