This Saturday in Italy we have a nice looking event on the card. The G1, The Best Of Rome which will be for 3 year old and older, Fillies and Mares Only. This race will be at the distance of 10 furlongs and will be on the Firm Turf track and looks to be a showdown. There are many nice looking horses in this race that has drawn a full field of fourteen. This should be a big challenge for most all horses that will compete in this field. The odds makers have done well to form their morning line odds. The post positions have been drawn and the horses all look ready to go for this race over at the barns. Let us now take a look at this field that will be running on Saturday here in Italy for the G1, The Best Of Rome.
| 1 | TEOHUNTER | IRE | 4F | swanseared | J Ledwith | 16 | 9 | 87% | $982,265 | 103.00 | 5/1 |
This four year old Brown Filly sired by Teofilo and is out of G1 winning mare, Deputy Hunter. This breeding gave the owner a very nice horse in return. This filly has not missed hitting the boards this season but has yet to pick up a G1 win. She came close when she ran in the Equinics G1, Victoria Falls when she crossed the wire in second. Her most recent trip to the track came on 09/13/2020 in Ireland when she traveled 10 furlongs in the G2, The Beat Up Ford. She ran a nice race that day and took charge after the second call to lead this field to the wire. Her owner places the call to jockey, J Ledwith from Paris to come in and take to the saddle with his filly. They have paired up before and this jockey should well understand how this horse likes to run. They will be headed out at post time to represent the Empire State Racing residency.
| 2 | COAGULATE LAD | IRE | 3F | corza8 | M Humbo | 10 | 3 | 40% | $553,110 | 24.00 | 51/1 |
This three year old Bay Filly was sired by Lilbourne Lad. She has had some struggles this season, but did have a nice showing back in May of this year in the G1, Japanese Oaks where she came in second at a distance of 12 furlongs. This filly last hit the turf here in Italy on 09/12/2020 in a $67,500 Allowance. She ran flat that day back in fifth the entire race and that is where she placed when crossing the wire. For this race the owner has put in the call to jockey, M Humbo who will coming over from Perth to take to the irons. This pairing will have their work cut out for them in this race when they head out of their gate to represent the Queensland Racecourse residency.
| 3 | SHAS HATS | FR | 4F | rockfarms | R Whisper | 18 | 3 | 33% | $305,784 | 34.13 | 25/1 |
This four year old Bay Filly sired by Shalaa will go off as another one of the longer choices in this field. She is a prior G2 winner and she had a nice win back in May of this year in the G2, The Winter Forest. Since that race four more trips to the track have ended fruitlessly. Her most recent outing came on 10/03/2020 going 8 furlongs in Kentucky in the G1, The Last Woman. She had another trip of which she ran flat and failed to perform. She ran in tenth place the entire race and that is where she stayed when she crossed the wire. The owner makes the call to jockey, R Whisper who will come in from Surrey to take the ride with this horse. They will come out in the post parade heading to the turf to the cheers of an excited crowd.
| 4 | SOURCES CONFIRM | KY | 5F | creamsoda2 | B Jungnitsch | 23 | 8 | 57% | $1,792,565 | 128.00 | 8/1 |
This five year old Roan Mare was sired by Tapit and she is a multiple G1 winner. Last year she won this race and will be returning to defend her title. She last ran on 10/04/2020 going 10 furlongs in Ontario in the G1, The Liz Taylor of which she got up for the win to add to her résumé. The owner has placed the call to jockey, B Jungnitsch from New Zealand who will take to the mount up top and try and take this race for the second straight year. They are sure to put up a good fight for this win on Saturday when they head out to the turf representing the Empire State Racing residency.
| 5 | PICCAWINNA | AUS | 5F | cornelius | K Damo | 21 | 6 | 76% | $408,461 | 25.00 | 10/1 |
This five year old Brown Mare sired by Fastnet Rock has put up some nice efforts recently for her owner. She earned her G3 badge back in June of this year going 11 furlongs in the G3, The Far And Away in Germany. In her most recent trip to the tack she put up another nice effort when she ran on 09/13/2020 in Ireland in the G2, The Beat Up Ford when she went 10 furlongs in this race to cross the wire in second after coming from over 8 lengths back at the third call. Her owner places a call to pick up jockey, K Damo who will be coming in from Queensland to take to the saddle for this turf run. This pairing will be looking for another nice trip in this race as they go out to represent the All-Stars Racing residency at post time.
| 6 | LAST WEEK FIGHTS | IRE | 5F | raynham | R Harzheim | 26 | 8 | 77% | $1,092,460 | 111.00 | 4/1 |
This five year old Bay Mare sired by Sea The Stars will go off as the favorite in the morning line according to the odds makers. She is a prior G2 winner, but a trip to the winners circle in a G1 outing has thus far eluded her. But she has come close in her last two races and come Saturday she could have a good shot of grabbing her first G1 win. She ran in July in the G1, The Friendly Wager in Newmarket and crossed the wire in second. She returned to the track for her most recent run on 09/28/2020 in Paris to run in the G1, Prix Opera at the distance of 10 furlongs. This front running filly again lost the lead late in that race and crossed the wire in second for the second time in a row in a G1 event. The owner makes the call to a familiar jockey for this horse in R Harzheim who will be coming in from Surrey to take the ride up top. This jockey should know what his horse likes to do and will probably let her run up front where she likes to be. They will be heading out at post time representing the Empire State Racing residency.
| 7 | A GIANT IMPACT | JPN | 3F | asrstar9 | H Artack | 12 | 5 | 75% | $1,088,814 | 100.63 | 29/1 |
This three year old Bay Filly sired by Deep Impact is well decorated in her twelve career starts only missing the boards three times. She has shown she can run on both the dirt and turf surfaces with success. Back in May of this year she won the G1, Wooly Mammoth 2000 which helped secure her spot to run in the Equinics in August in the G1, Leaning Tower Of Pisa where she put up a great effort coming in third in a three way photo finish. Her most recent trip to the track came on the dirt in New York on 09/12/2020 in the G1, The 10cc Rubber Bullet traveling the distance of 10 furlongs. She was back in sixth and over six back at the third call when her jockey asked her for more effort. The timing was perfect and they got the win by a head and put another G1 win into the books for this filly. The owner has placed the call to Turkey to find jockey, H Artack available to take to the saddle for this race. This filly will be stepping up to take on some older and more experienced horse so her jockey will need to be sharp in this race when he brings her out of the gate representing the All-Stars Racing residency.
| 8 | HARSH LIGHT | JPN | 4F | bluefox | S L Ledwith | 18 | 7 | 61% | $494,359 | 42.00 | 8/1 |
This four year old Bay Filly is a scratch bred (DURAMENTE (JPN) x RAINBOW QUEST x LYPHARD) and is a former G3 badge earner in the field. This filly has been running well for the owner this season and has not ran worse than fourth in 2020. Back in April of this year she ran 10 furlongs in New Zealand to capture the G3, Dulcimer Stakes. She then went out to place second in the G2, The Epicenter in New York. These two races secured her a spot in the Equinics in the G1, Victoria Fall of which she crossed the wire in fourth. Her most recent race came in a Listed Stakes in Newmarket on 09/19/2020 in the Shiphole Turf Mare Route. She was lurking in second some five lengths off the leader at the third call when she was asked to pick up her legs and show some more. She responded down the stretch to get up for the win by over two lengths. Jockey, S L Ledwith from Dubai will be in the saddle on Saturday to help guide this filly across the turf when they head out to their post draw representing the Midas residency.
| 9 | BARBARA PAJAMA | AUS | 4F | barbie | J Stivers | 19 | 5 | 63% | $319,066 | 6.00 | 12/1 |
This four year old Bay Filly is a scratch bred (REDOUTE’S CHOICE x IRISH RIVER x SADLER’S WELLS) and is a GP badge earner that has had some struggles finding the winners circle in Graded attempts. She has came close in some G3 trips but just not been able to find the wire first. This filly looks like she has the desire to compete, but she will be facing a bunch of mean girls this coming Saturday of which she is going to have to show improvement to topple them. Her last trip to the track came at the distance of 8.5 furlongs in Indiana on 09/13/2020 in a Listed Stakes, Sally Slap Turf Mare Route. She was trying to close but appeared to run out of track when she crossed the wire in third. This added distance appears unpredictable. She looks like she wants to go longer, but when she does she seems to struggle a little. So it will be interesting to see what jockey, J Stivers from Deauville will do with this filly in this race. This pair will be headed out to their post draw on Saturday to represent the Hoosier Racing residency.
| 10 | TURNING VIKINGS | KY | 4F | dkyoung2 | P Bangs | 14 | 4 | 57% | $304,515 | 20.88 | 15/1 |
This four year old Roan Filly was sired by Tapit and is out of HOF, EOY, G1 winning mare, Turning Japanese. This horse was selected to go out and represent in the Equinics back in August and she made a big closing effort to show up in third at the wire in the G1, Victoria Falls. She followed up to come out again on 09/13/2020 in Surrey to race in the G3, Chosen Stakes going 10 furlongs. She was over fourteen lengths back at the third call and she was making a big closing effort, but came across the wire in fourth. She looks like a fit choice in this field at 15/1 odds and will have jockey, P Bangs from New South Wales in the saddle once more to take this trip with her. This jockey has not rode this horse in a while, but he should know how to handle her when they take out off their gate to represent the Universal Racing Club residency.
| 11 | THE CHOICE AGAIN | AUS | 5F | mtkschoice | P Harzheim | 24 | 4 | 50% | $415,520 | 8.25 | 6/1 |
This five year old Bay Mare sired by Redoute’s Choice does know how to run. She has came in second in her last three races but none of them were against Graded company. This will be her first Graded attempt this season when she takes to the track on Saturday. She last ran 10 furlongs on 10/11/2020 in the Czech Republic in a Listed Stakes, Testing Fractions Turf Mare Route. She made a closing effort after the third call but came up short when she crossed the wire in second. The owner has placed a call to a familiar jockey, P Harzheim that will be coming in from Berkshire to take to the saddle up top for this trip with a filly he knows well. I think this jockey is going to have his work cut out for him here as he guides this mare around the turf. He is going to have to get out the stiff whip and see if he can get a good performance from her and prove she still has enough fire to get back on the boards against some tough Graded competitors in this race. They will be headed out for the call of the race representing the Blazing Saddles residency.
| 12 | TAKE THE CROWN | JPN | 5F | gcliffo22 | C Wyatt | 23 | 8 | 65% | $509,732 | 33.00 | 9/1 |
This five year old Roan Mare sired by Deep Impact has seen her fair share of ups and downs this season. One of the highlights came back in May when she ran in the G3, The Blue Wind in Ireland. She was back in fifth and nine lengths back at the third call when her jockey cracked her with the whip and asked her for more effort. She got up in that race with a nice two length win. But her last trip to the turf came with much disappointment when she ran on 09/13/2020 in Ireland in the G2, The Beat Up Ford across 10 furlongs. She just refused to fire in that race and lingered home in seventh and was eleven lengths off. This horse will be looking for some redemption in this race after that last outing and she will get the services of jockey, C Wyatt who is coming in from Queensland to take the mount for the first time with this horse. Perhaps this new face and a new bag of tricks will get this horse to fire and show some more leg in this race. They will be headed out at post time to represent the Racing HQ residency.
| 13 | BRAHMAHA | NZ | 4F | silversun0 | L Rigdon | 15 | 3 | 60% | $464,675 | 50.00 | 11/1 |
We have this four year Bay Filly that is sired by Darci Brahma that has put up a couple of nice deep closing efforts recently. She has her GP badge and she is looking to add to her list of accomplishments. She has struggled in the past when she has attempted to run against Graded company, but she changed that during her last trip to the track when she ran on 08/08/2020 in Illinois going 9.5 furlongs in the G1, Cedora D Stakes. She is another deep closer and was in eleventh and over nine lengths back at the third call when asked to run. She came charging down the stretch picking off horses but she fell a little short when she crossed the wire in second. This was a good effort, but she needs to show more. There is a lot of upfront speed in this race and that may be good for her style. She will get the services of jockey, L Rigdon to come in and take the mount up top and help guide her around this well groomed turf track. This pair will be headed out in the post parade to their gate representing the Sim Junkees residency.
| 14 | MIRACLE AFFAIR | SAF | 4F | nycowboyca | B Doherty | 15 | 4 | 33% | $384,490 | 32.00 | 28/1 |
This four year old Bay Filly sired by Dynasty back in June showed she had what it takes to run in Graded company when she stepped up to win the G2, Rich And Famous Handicap in California. She then returned to the track in her two most recent outing to run in G1 races. These attempts ended in disappointment. The most recent was on 09/28/2020 in Paris when she traveled 10 furlongs in the G1, Prix Opera. She crossed the wire in sixth and was a lingering sixteen lengths back when she crossed the wire. She will have to show up for this race with more fire power in those legs if she is going to compete in this race. She will get the services of jockey, B Doherty up in the saddle again that is familiar with this filly and her running style. They will be coming out of the far outside gate and he will have to find her a clean trip and a nice break from the gate. He will also need to crack that whip and get one of her best performances out of her when they head down the stretch for home representing the Empire State Racing residency.
Good luck to all owners and horses!
