Ten Fillies Shoot It Out
The highlight race in Ireland this past weekend was the Whodini Shootout for three year old fillies. The race would be run over six furlongs on the turf track. The weather was clear on race day giving the rating of firm to the turf track where the ten fillies would run in the Whodini. All ten fillies made their way easily through the post parade and into the starting gate without incident, waiting patiently for the bell to ring and for them to take off.
Out to an early lead was simon1966 owned Junior Achiever who had the lead by two and one-fourth lengths over Kepler RSM, trained by bobo. Running two and a half lengths back in third was the pre-race favorite Lursa, trained by wenlock. Along in fourth and fifth were Blackened Crawfish (NZ) and Kundalini, who were owned and trained by martini and supper11 respectively. Just three lengths back in sixth was squity owned Silver Splendor. Trailing the field early on, though only six and one-fourth length back was Rahy’s Broad, owned and trained by pointblank.
Junior Achiever increased her lead to three and one-fourth lengths over Kepler RSM with Lursa still in third. Blackened Crawfish (NZ) was still in forth but with Silver Splendor moving up into fifth, pushing back Kundalini into sixth. Running in seventh and eighth were tejanoroy trained Smart Stuff and Proclaim The Truth (IRE), owned by irshaman in eighth. Rahy’s Broad was still trailing the field, now back by ten and one-fourth lengths.
Junior Achiever was beginning to loose her lead now, with only a one and three-fourth furlong space between her and the quickly gaining Kepler RSM. Lursa was still holding strong in third with Blackened Crawfish (NZ) just off her flank and in fourth. Finding a hole on the rail and making her move was Proclaim The TruthSilver Splendor dropped back to sixth and was now looking to be out of the race. Making a move on the far outside was Come Get Some (SAF), owned by kfastno3. Smart Stuff was running back in eighth with Kundalini who had dropped back into ninth. Still trailing the field as they made their way for home was Rahy’s Broad.
The field charged down the stretch, the ten fillies striding for the wire, kicking up clumps of grass with their hooves as they pounded towards the finish. Kepler RSM shot by Junior Achiever towards her inside and crossed the wire in front by one and one-fourth length under jockey A. Reed. Junior Achiever held on for second with late-charging Proclaim The Truth (IRE) crossing third.
