1 | A CASE IN POINT(KY) | 14/1 | 4yo filly out of a “G” rated he/mare that has been a turf runner to date. She broke her maiden 1st time out as a 2yo in a dirt sprint. That race was in March of ’06 when times are slow and most blue bloods aren’t raced till later in the year. She went through a series of so-so races until trainer gave her a try on turf. She took to the green stuff immediately and started racking up wins and ITM. She’s a winner of a G1 early in her 3yo season and has placed in other graded events. 8-10f seems to be her forte on grass, and now after some lackluster races is switching back to dirt to try an awakening.
2 | WHEELS OF STEEL(KY) | 9/1 |
Scratch bred filly by Cryptoclearance that got hot this summer and improved her SP’s to the magic 100+. She has won a couple of listed events and placed in a few graded. She has been beaten twice in her last two by the #5 in this as have a few others. It appears she is off form at present unless there was a misfortune in her last out. It’s hard to think she will reverse fortune in this, although she is in a better position than some.
3 | IRON BANGLE(KY) | 9/1 |
Scratch bred filly by Forest Wildcat that is in very good form at present. November allowance was her break through into the +100 SP factor, and she ran a solid 2nd in her initial listed stakes last out. Of course winning and placing are two different animals, and taking this jump to the next level will test her ability even more so. She’s in against some tough females here.
4 | KATHERINE | 7/2 |
5yo mare scratch bred to
5 | SONG OF THE HAWK(KY) | 5/2 |
Out of an “F” rated mare this gal certainly deserves favorite status. She has beaten a few of the entrants here in her last two. No reason to believe she can’t again. She’s going for a five-peat in this. She was the World Cup Ladies long sprint champ and has had plenty of rest between races to hold her edge. Tough to pick against her here. Top jock doesn’t hurt either.
6 | MISS ROBERTS(KY) | 8/1 |
Named after the daughter of the infamous Mr. Roberts of classic film fame, this filly has been on a tear as of late. The switch back to dirt after a lackluster stint on turf was the key to her present roll. She’s 5 W’s for her last six outs with a 2nd place finish thrown in. She’s very full of herself at present. As to whether she will be after this jump in class remains to be seen. She may be so blinded by her successes; she may not realize she’s in a graded event.
7 | THE | 5/1 |
Out of an “H” rated mare this 5yo can do it on turf or dirt. Her present strategy is playing the dirt game. She’s a steady performer in the long sprints and gives honest efforts each out. She was a little off her game in the last start but has a history of making nice comebacks. We’re looking for her to give the same honest effort she’s noted for.
8 | AZ A COMMANDER( | 28/1 |
Scratch bred to Azamour, this filly and her trainer are waiting for that 100+ SP race that propels our horses into the class that we all feel good about. From that point on, we think big dreams of champion status. Until she makes that breakthrough, we wonder if our horses will ever get through conditions.
9 | SILVER DESIGNER | 4/1 |
Already a graded winner at the distance; this mare has been noses and necks away from sporting 3 W’s in her last five events. Her last out however doesn’t bode well. She finished up the track after a 9 race stint in the 100+’s. Was it a fluke or some sort of racing luck thing???….we’ll soon find out.
Hard to pick against Song of the Hawk in this. (although Givins has been known to take a dive now and then J)
