Reflection Futurity Grade III
This week in North Dakota a full field of fourteen 2 yr old fillies will go postward looking to capture the lions share of the 150,000 dollar purse offered in the Grade 3 Reflection Futurity. The distance for todays race will be one mile on the main track. Odds maker Booger Magoo has placed battlers stables Mount Causeway(IRE) daughter of (Monjeu)(IRE) the slight morning line favorite at 6/1. I contacted Booger to find out what it was that he thought stood out about Mount Causeway (IRE) to make her the favorite in his eyes. Booger really liked how the filly seemed to turn the corner when she was put on the dirt. “She Seemed to show her class when she changed surfaces.” Booger was quick to point out that she was from the multiple graded winning mare Ice Queen(IRE) who did all of her running on the lawn. “Booger stated that her momma was a stone cold runner. She could set the pace, run mid pack or place the anchor and run the last 3 furlongs. If any of her class has been passed on I’m thinking Mount Causeway(IRE)will improve enough to be a real threat today.
After picking Boogers brain a bit I was able to extract from him that he also has a lot of respect for the lightly raced daughter of Forestry, Stun (KY) who is undefeated in three starts. She’ll be the pace setter stated Booger. She’s shown the ability to be tough down the lane pulling away fron her competition late after sertting all the fractions. She may just be a star in the making.
The rest of the field will be looked at in post position order.
1). Grade 2 winner Trial And Treasure (Mineshaft)oaklawn88 stable has struggled a bit after a good spring/summer. Seemed to have Peaked in California’s gr2 Dazzling Daisies setting the pace in the 6.5 furlong event that she dominated from the start. Her last two events were Special stakes which she seemed to struggle with after adding distance.
2). Undefeatd filly Expedience(Woodman)from taxman stable will be making another step up today after two straight victory’s at today’s distance. Jockey L Callow will have his hands full tackling on this tough field of runners. Booger has placed her at 13/1 and that might be a little low in my opinion.
3). boscoman stables will be sending out scratch bred Boscos Steggrina (WA) (Waiting Game) who will be taking her game onto the main track after two turf races which saw her break her maiden at first asking. Her second start saw her go up against stakes competition where she just missed at 7.5 furlongs. The change of surface is a question but the added distance should help her out. 18/1
4). Downtown Fargo (KY)(HAP)12/1 Has been competitive against stakes competition but todays grade 3 may be a bit to much for her. Stretching out after four sprints this filly from larsonisti stables seems to be in a bit tough.
5). Wondergirl Gitte (TUR) this karlch stables filly has been applying her wares in the Pacific Northwest where she won three in a row. She was then elevated to the grade2 Boca Stakes where she was crushed placing a distant 10th in a eleven horse field. This daughter of Mountain Cat will probably handle the distance and may have just enough class to get on the board. *Longshot* 12/1
6). Messy Missy (KY) multiple stakes winner out of the sire Woodman and the stable monimonica has really fell off after a good summer which saw a stakes double. The 8/1 odds are a little short in my opinion and I’ll be shocked if the horse finishes in the top five.
7). Stun (Ky) *See Above*
8). Another Bullet (KY) daughter of Red Bullet has grinded out over 100K in eight starts but has yet to be asked to route. Bred to handle the distance her speed figures have not really seemed to jump off the paper. cmcnationa stables
looks to pull the big upset at 11/1
9). Mount Causeway (IRE) *See Above*
10). Bo’s Bomb (Gulch)from krfarms This severly inbred filly will be lucky to make it through her 3 year old season. Bred for speed and inbred closely to Mr. P this filly would be a surprise to me. 8/1
11). Champion Flower (KY) This two yr old filly of mequire2nd stables has impressed in her past two starts.
Bred for speed which may limit her ability to get the distance this little filly has shown guts which just might help her get a piece of the purse. 13/1
12). Incredible Cause (KY) daughter of Giant’s Causeway out stakes winner Heavenly Host has improved with each race.
The sixth place finish in the gr2 8.5F Margarine Stakes was a solid showing for this fillies first route. tq stables will hope for another step in the right direction. 10/1
13). Wailea Queen (KY) 16/1 filly by El Prado seems in way to deep. lawnlover stables should pray thatr she comes back in one piece. Next race (any claimer)
14). Political Ambition (KY) 9/1 (Successful Appeal) really ran a good one last out but against lesser competition. The weak post and the lack of stakes success tells me that this filly is in deep. Foxon5 stables will looking for more improvement with 2nd time blinkers.
