Holiday Spirit Strong At The Sale Barn
Auction 3441 – The auction bounced around this week with more horses being entered but less selling. The average sale price was down about $20,000 and the total sales plummeted by about seven million dollars. Only four horses were sold for over a million dollars and with only one week left until the Stc starts there was only limited buying action by the Stc trainers. I guess, most have already filled their stables and are now just getting their horses fit and sound, ready to start off the New Year with a bang. So without further ado.

Auction Observations:
It was a rather pleasant day at the sale’s barn this week considering it is December, although, it was too cold for me to sit ring side. I was surprised more people weren’t out at the mall, but horse people everywhere, would rather spend their money on four-legged friends and today was no different. When I finally made it through the crowd and over to my table whom should I see there but my favorite wild man Yoss. Robert is such a joy, when he is not angry, and thankfully he isn’t angry often. Anyway, it was fun to talk over the old days and better when Cream came over to join us bringing Sabbath. So it was a fun time for me as I don’t get to see them often. Flagdown and Redhatcat came by leading some of Flagdown’s rescue greyhounds. They were generating a lot of interest and I hope he got some adopted out. It’s such a nice thing to do. I know three or four times during the summer, at my local racetrack, one of the trainers at Yavapai brings five or six greyhounds looking for homes and he always goes home with less than he came with.
Trotter was busy buying and selling but stopped by to say hi as did Realdeal and my fellow Arizonian Dukesn. Paton and Sherman were hunting Castro and Taffysfill was hiding out with Billy2shoe at a corner table with their backs to the wall. Hops (Jake) was looking over the big stable reduction of Blobfarms and all their subsidiaries. 16days had been on the road with 18wheels and were taking it easy over by the bar. Binzaman was busy spending his money but he and fellow Queenslander, Pekays, stopped by for a short visit. Texasace was back with his random breds and I am sure that he just likes to see his name in print because the reserve never changes and the horses never sell. Good thing I like him, so I will continue to give him space in my column when possible. My two favorite names for this week – Wakenbake and Comacozzi sounds like chicken dinner and a cocktail – can’t beat that. So onwards and upwards to ……..
The Millionaires:
The top price was down over a million dollars from last week and only four horses topped the million dollar mark, but I am pretty sure these were all legit sales, which is nice! Hip # 135635, Five Legged Cat, topped the sale at an even $2 million and the big, gray, 2 YO colt was consigned by Dtheone5. Conor signed the ticket for the stake’s placed son of
Reserve honors went to hip # 47168, Red Slips Away. A good looking dark bay colt by Ransom Of War sold for $1,600,000.00 to Cream. Lynn246 was the recorded seller of this maiden colt who has placed in two of his three starts with increasing speed figures. He sure looks the part and Cream knows his horses.
Dowelly led in Boulevard of Tears, # 103227, a copper chestnut 2 YO colt by Street Cry. He has started nine times, won once and is also stakes placed. Theshark (Binzaman) paid $1,000,010.00 for this nice animal and is happy with the purchase.
Rumbling Storm (#138071) was the final horse to bring a million dollars and Noname was the consignor of record. The brown, 3 YO filly did not have five legs and Binzaman must have liked what he saw as he was the high bidder for this Gone West Filly out of a Forty Niner mare. Rumbling Storm has won one of nine starts and the hammer fell at $1,000,002.00
The STC
Stc trainers bought a total of 61 horses compared with 63 last week and spent $73,479.00. The average sale price among the Stc horses was up a smidge to $1,204.57 against last week’s $1,130.52, as trainers scramble to fill their remaining stalls. The top price paid this week, among the Stc trainers, was $13,001 for # 134915, Glance a 3 YO colt. Stcvbear signed the ticket for the Yoss consignee. This was followed closely by Scootstc who forked over $10,000 to Kevacy for the 6 YO horse Geri Val Royal # 19158. Chilcoat consigned the 3 YO filly War Pig, # 114369, and she brought $6,343 from Stcsheen to round out the top three. Mattem (who does not have Stc by his name but is on the list of participants) bought eight horses this week, the most of anyone and they cost him a grand total of $8.00. He was followed closely by Roscoestc who went home with six. Let’s hope they got some bargains.
That’s it for this week. Good Luck with all your auction purchases and Merry Christmas to everyone.
