THIS WEEK IN MINNESOTA—WEEK 3406 (PART 2)
As a result of negotiations with The Derby Fever Racing Association the Minnesota Downs race track was granted 3 extra added money stake events to compensate them for when they were overlooked several weeks ago on the stakes schedule causing an uproar with local horseracing fans. The first of 3 extra added money events will be the 16th and final race this week in The Minnesota Lassie Stakes for 2 year old fillies going one mile on the Supertoy 7 Marshall turf course. A field of 8 have passed the entry box and will be vying for the winners share of the $75,000 purse.
Let’s take a look at today’s field:
1)HIGH MOTIONS(IRE)—2/1—mstrinity1 sends this filly out of HIGH CHAPARRAL(IRE) with a record of 7-3-3-1 and lifetime earnings of $394,230. She is out of the he-mare PERFECT MOTION(IRE) who was 15/58 at the track. This 5th divisional ranked filly races for the unafilliated Trinity stables. This fillies sire has a 71.5% winners rate and a 12.8% stakes winners rate with a 2.2% Graded stakes winners rate. This year 27.2% of his 2 year old starters have found the winners circle. After breaking her maiden in her lifetime debut this filly has picked up a pair of stakes wins so far in her career and suffered a heartbreaking loss last time out in The Grade I Breeders Bowl Juvenile Turf Filly race where she rallied in the stretch and just came up a head short for the win while finishing in 2nd place and posting a lifetime best 94 speed rating. She drops down to an overnite today and should be closing strong in the stretch drive today. The rider for today’s race will be Saaverda (8.2%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—92.
2)VEGAN CAT(KY)—3/1—layoff sends this filly out of KINGMAMBO with a record of 2-1-0-0 and lifetime earnings of $9,660. This divisional unranked filly races for the Worldwide stables based at the NWRC. This fillies sire has a 88.7% winners rate with a 18.1% stakes winners rate and a 4.1% Graded stakes winners rate. This year 55.3% of his 2 year old starters have found the winners circle. After debuting on the dirt this filly came back out and broker her maiden last time out on the turf and posted a speed rating of 78 in the process. She will be making her stakes debut today and will be spotting some others some experience in this race today. She was a late closer last time out sitting neat the back of the pack early. 3)ROCK BAR(JPN)—5/1—dowelly sends this filly out of ROCK OF GIBRALTAR(IRE) with a record of 3-2-0-0 and lifetime earnings of $33,780. She is out of the mare IRISH BAR who was 13/43 at the track and this is the only foal on record to date. This divisional unranked filly races for The Hunter Valley Stables based over in Queensland. This fillies sire has a 75.4% winners rate with a 10.4% stakes winners rate and a 2.5% Graded stakes winners rate. This year 39.8% of his 2 year old starters have found the winners circle. This filly broker her maiden in her lifetime debut and then jumped up to The Grade I World Cup race next time out where she displayed some early speed but tired in the second half of the race. She came back last time out to wire a field in a 7.5 furlong turf sprint right here in a Minnesota NW2L allowance race posting her life best 81 speed rating. She will be one of the horses today expected to be on the lead and cutting the early fractions in the race and will need to be at her best to hold off the field at the wire. 4)LOOSE AGRESSIVE(KY)—8/1—swracing sends this filly out of LEMON DROP KID with a record of 8-3-3-0 and lifetime earnings of $91,840. She is out of the mare LOOSE CHANGE who was 6/48 at the track and who has 4 foals on record of which 3 are winners. This 301st divisional ranked filly races for the NWRC division of the Team Doza Racing Stables who also has a local string of horses based right here at Minnesota Downs. This fillies sire has a 74.1% winners rate with a 10.4% stakes winners rate and a 2.5% Graded stakes winners rate. This year 26.7% of his 2 year old starters have found the winners circle. This filly picked up 3 allowance wins in her first 7 starts, all of which were on the dirt track. She was run on the turf in a stakes sprint last time out where she rallied midly in the stretch to finish 2nd posting a life best 76 speed rating. She has displayed front end speed in her career to date and will be one of those vying for the early lead ensuring an honest pace today. The rider for today’s race will be Man (10.7%). 6)CAPE RATS(ENG)—9.1—darnath sends this filly out of CAPE TOWN with a record of 9-2-4-2 and lifetime earnings of $77,590. She is out of the mare VISION OF RATS who was 4/22 at the track and this is the only foal on record to date. This 166th divisional ranked filly races for the local Darnath outfit who will have a starter in both added money events at Minnesota Downs this weekend. This fillies sire has a 72.4% winners rate with a 6.4% stakes winners rate. This year 16.7% of his 2 year old starters have found the winners circle. While this filly started her career on the turf she actually broker her maiden on the dirt when she started on that surface twice earlier this year. Since returning to the turf she has finsished in the money in 4 straight stakes race sprints including 1 victory and posted her lifetime best 77 speed rating last time out. She stretches out to a mile here today and hopefully the trend of her tiring in long sprints does not carry over to her first attempt at a route today. She wired the field in that one and that was a change in race tactics from her previous several starts and with the results may have her vying for the early lead in this race again today. This will be her first stakes race start in her career. The rider for today’s race will be Pickel (7.9%). PROJECTED SPEED RATING—76.
