No Repeat For Over Highland

The three year olds and up took to the track today in Connecticut during the Bargain Bred Series Vimes Turf Distaff, the thirteenth race on the card for this weekends racing. The short field of eight fillies and mares made their way to the starting gate on the sunny afternoon. All eight entrants loaded into the starting gates placed on the inner turf track easily and waited for the gates to crash open and the race to start.

As the staring bell sounded it was blueheaven owned Champaigne (BRZ) out to an early lead by a slight head over the mare that had won this race for the past two years, Over Highland, owned by reems11. Running just three-fourth of a length back in third was thunor owned The Mods (IRE). Breaking last out of the gate was the newly purchased Rollokin’, now trained by 1gbost2yoz.

Over Highland had soon taken the lead away from Champaigne (BRZ) by half a length with The Mods (IRE) still running in third. Battling it out in fourth and fifth were Alysyn Chase and Baby Bam (IRE), who are owned and trained by mattress and court4 respectively.

At the final turn Over Highland and lengthened her lead over the rest of the field to two and one-fourth lengths but biswell4 owned His Gallop (IND) came roaring from the middle of the field and was now nipping at her heels in second. Alysyn Chase was making her move now to and was now in third with The Mods (IRE) getting pushed back into fourth. Holding strong in fifth was Baby Bam (IRE) with former front-runner Champaigne (BRZ) dropping out of it into sixth. Maintaining seventh was gatornavy trained Prospect Mix (FR) with Rollokin’ now fourteen lengths behind the leader.

As the field neared the wire Over Highland still had a slight lead over the charging His Gallop (IND) but in the end His Gallop (IND) would deny Over Highland her third straight win of the Vimes Turf Distaff. His Gallop (IND) won the race by one and a half lengths under jockey L. Hechicera with a speed figure of ninety-three in 1:56 3/5 seconds with Over Highland in second and Baby Bam (IRE) finishing third.
