$125,000
Fillies and mares, 3 years old and up
Stakes record – 2006 – CHANCE FOR DELTA, 1:10 3/5, SPF 91.328
This is a really great series and this race is one of the reasons why. There are so many great stories here from upcoming three year olds to old wily vets coming in to show that young ladies a thing or two. We have claimers that have turned into Stakes winners and a solid mare that is looking to repeat in this race. The stories are out there so let’s take a look:
1 – DONAVIN G ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGS RANK 7/1 ResLiddles 8.7% G.Ringaskiddy 498 – 47 – 51 – 56 – 9% 99.65 $98,106 1237
(ALEX NUREYEV x DR. NUREYEV x LITTLE NUREYEV) This six year old has ten wins to her credit and has mostly run in claimers and starters but has actually been running better than ever lately with an impressive 99 SPF last time out at this distance. That was actually her best SPF ever and perhaps she is getting better with age. Trainer ResLiddles of the Liddleski Empire Stables certainly hopes so. She actually has a four race win streak going coming into the race and could be in position to surprise here with capable jockey Ringaskiddy in the leather.
| 2 – TRICKY JENNY | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11/1 | Liddleski1 | 5.1% | H.Astros | 291 – 22 – 17 – 23 – 8% | 98.64 | $50,892 | N/A |
(MAZEL TRICK x SIBERIAN SUMMER x REGAL INTENTION) Here is a four year old chestnut mare that was claimed one race back just in time for the Breeders Bowl week. She is trained by Liddleski1 and now runs under the colors of the Liddleski Empire Stables. She had her best speed to date two back with a solid 98 SPF. The Liddleski Empire sure seems to know the best way to get the most from these bargain babes so watch out for this one. She is a stalker that will benefit from the inside post and has Astros riding with a slightly sub par year to date.
| 3 – WONKA BAR | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 16/1 | LGBost7 | 8.8% | M.Homes | 344 – 24 – 25 – 31 – 7% | 96.34 | $102,833 | 1567 |
(MACEDONIA x EXCELLENT SECRET x BELLYPHA(IRE)) I love the name of this five year old cream colored mare. I’m sure that trainer LGBost7 is looking for that “golden ticket” with this girl. This is her second try at the DELTA TIGER SPRINT as she raced and finished second last year in this race. She had another near miss earlier this year in the DEATH VALLEY DISTAFF Stakes with another second place. She has Homes holding the reins and he could use a golden ticket himself as he has been struggling a bit this year. She hasn’t been quite as sharp lately but certainly has the speed to compete.
| 4 – ROOT MACHINES | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 16/1 | AlbaRace0 | 4.0% | R.Lamond | 281 – 15 – 18 – 27 – 5% | 96.12 | $ 105,872 | N/A |
( BOLD BADGETT x L’ENJOLEUR x DECOY BOY(ENG)) Claimed four back, this eight year old mare hasn’t run quite as well for trainer AlbaRace0 and the Blacksoxuk Stables. That last claiming race she had a 94 SPF but hasn’t replicated that in her three races for the new stable. They have Lamond in the saddle and he would be best to hang on as that seems to be about all he has done this year with his low win percentage. It appears that her best racing is behind her but she has twelve wins so she knows how to get there.
| 5 – BACK ROAD(WV) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 19/1 | Plong | 6.5% | M.Barnes | 593 – 67 – 64 – 64 – 11% | 95.65 | $ 45,360 | 499 |
( LORD PARHAM x BOB BACK x HERCULEAN) What better name for a West Virginia bred? This three year old filly keeps improving for trainer Plong and the Axe Racing Stables, especially since she turned to the dirt four back. She threw in a nice 95 SPF in one of those and won easily. She looks to prefer the sprints and could be ready to jump it up a bit here. She has Barnes in the irons and he is known for doing a nice job with these younger fillies. This could be a good spot for her and they could surprise here at generous odds.
| 6 – REGAL IS BBOR | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10/1 | Planoaxious | 11.7% | J.Hornibrook | 16 – 2 – 2 – 1 – 13% | 98.89 | $89,174 | 4196 |
( SMOKESTER x OLYMPIO x REGAL CLASSIC) This nice looking brown mare looks like a real coup for trainer and owner Planoaxious as she was claimed only one race back after several solid 90 plus SPFs. She has finished on the board in more than half of her races and still looks like she could improve. They have Hornibrook up in the saddle here and he is looking good this year as well with solid numbers. This mare will give it her all and her heart is usually enough to carry her near the top. She could be an interesting pick.
| 7 – JACOBITE COPPER(IRE) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 99/1 | Saltire3 | 4.6% | A.Cutry | 269 – 15 – 23 – 21 – 6% | 81.52 | $31,745 | N/A |
( VETTORI(IRE) x IRON x WASSL TOUCH) I’m not quite sure that this three year old filly is quite ready for this crowd but at least trainer Saltire3 is getting her the experience early in her career. Her low 80s SPFs will need quite a bump to compete in this race and jockey Cutry has been more of an anchor than a help on his mounts this year. All together, not too promising for this race but could help down the road.
| 8 – CHANCE FOR DELTA | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9/2 | I’mATiger2 | 15.4% | D.Singhi | 673 – 82 – 76 – 95 – 12% | 101.14 | $ 457,666 | 233 |
( AMERICAN CHANCE x MASTER BILL x RUDIMENTARY) Half of this beautiful mare’s twelve wins have been Stakes wins including this very race last year. She is the returning champion and looking to repeat. There is certainly data to support that chase as she just ran her best SPF ever two races back with a sizzling 101. That ain’t bad for a five year old with 44 races under her girth. Trainer ImATiger2 of the Delta Tiger Stables has to be tickled with this veteran gal with her high hopes for this race. Jockey Singhi is up and so are his stats this year. This could definitely be a formidable team in this race.
| 9 – LATE ON SUNDAY | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 14/1 | Koontz | 12.1% | L.Hechicera | 315 – 22 – 18 – 16 – 7% | 93.54 | $ 69,013 | 897 |
( NITE DREAMER x OUR MICHAEL x GOLDEN ACT) Trainer Koontz is using some magic on this four year old light grey mare that was claimed just two back for the APHill Stables. Since that claim her SPFs have bumped up into the 90s and she has finished first and second. She will need another bump in SPF to get into the mix here but she looks like she has the ability and now the training. Jockey Hechicera will need to be on his best game and take his instructions well as he hasn’t set the world on fire this year. Should be interesting to see what Koontz can do on this larger playing field.
| 10 – ENTHUSIASM SPREADS(NY) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4/1 | Crackpot | 15.3% | I.Thomas | 774 – 187 – 151 – 100 – 24% | 108.09 | $ 223,949 | 26 |
( ARTAX x GUILTY CONSCIENCE x PLUGGED NICKLE) Now here is a story that is what this race is all about. Trainer Crackpot and the Tees Stables saw something in this big brown three year old filly late last year and she has turned into a winning machine. She has finished first or second in ten of her twelve races since then including three Stakes wins. She continues to improve with huge triple digit speed figures in her last two races. With the magic hands of Thomas on the reins this looks to be the best chance to keep CHANCE FOR DELTA from repeating in this Stakes race. She is nearing a quarter mil in earnings and looks to be poised to jump into the record books by smashing “DELTA’s” Stakes record and winning here.
| 11 – WARIUZ GAME(ENG) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 55/1 | Wariuz | 22.8% | L.Pye | 296 – 15 – 19 – 26 – 5% | 86.50 | $ 39,649 | N/A |
( MUJAHID x GAME COIN x LITTLE CURRENT) The Hawkz Racing Stables and trainer Wariuz has taken this namesake to nice steady improvement but it remains to be seen if she is quite to the level of this group. They are also hauling around jockey Pye who is rumored to be fighting some massive weight problems. That doesn’t exactly add up to promising chances for this team but you just never know when a three year old can jump up and bite the field.
| 12 – WU JEN(JPN) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7/2 | TXBred | 9.5% | J.Ingram | 731 – 109 – 109 – 97 – 15% | 106.29 | $ 138,599 | 345 |
( FUJI KISEKI(JPN) x SLEWPY x COMPLIANCE) Trainer TXBred moved this four year old back to the clay just five races back with startling results. During that time, this filly has won two including the BARGAIN DASH Stakes and finished second in another Stakes race. She has also eclipsed the triple digit SPF mark with a sizzling 106 two back. That makes her a very real threat here especially with Ingram in the irons and having a great year. She is flying the colors of this series host the Knightmare Stables and it would great to see her pull out a win here.
| 13 – ROMES BURNING(IRE) | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 20/1 | KiwiHawkz | 6.3% | F.Lakencher | 339 – 29 – 34 – 26 – 9% | 91.29 | $33,487 | N/A |
(CENTURY CITY (IRE) x ROMANOV(IRE) x ALLEN’S ALYDAR) Another rapidly improving three year old that could be ready to make the big jump for trainer KiwiHawkz and the Hawkz Racing Stables. Her past couple of races has seen her jump up into the 90 plus SPFs and she will need another bump here to compete. Jockey Lakencher has been solid if unspectacular this year and her front running style may not like the outside post here. She might need a few more races to compete with this crowd.
| 14 – WAVE GOODBYE | ODDS | OWNER | WIN% | JOCKEY | WIN% | TOP SPEED | EARNINGS | RANK |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 23/1 | AlbaRace0 | 4.0% | F.Mulder | 312 – 24 – 29 – 26 – 8% | 98.22 | $ 126,947 | N/A |
(AZAMOUR (IRE) x KING OF KINGS (IRE) x MIESQUE’S SON) A fitting name for our final horse in the race, this nice looking four year old chestnut mare is a former Stakes winner that has stumbled a bit lately. She still seems to be deciding whether she likes the sprints of classic distances better even after 32 races. Mulder is in the saddle and he needs to come up with some decisions as well as he seems to have been very indecisive in his races this year. Trainer AlbaRace0 and the Blacksoxuk Stables have to be a bit frustrated with this mare.
Morning Line = 12-10-8-1-6
Paz Picks = 10-12-8-1
This has a chance to be a really electrifying race and it may end up with lots of jostling for the win at the finish. I like DONAVIN G to finish fourth although she may finish much better and I worry about her messing with my top three. I think that CHANCE FOR DELTA has a very real chance to repeat her victory from last year but there are a couple of younger girls that will challenge her. She’s still got it and I think she has enough to finish in the top three. WU JEN belongs to the host stables and it would be great to see her get the win but I think that is left for the front running ENTHUSIASM SPREADS who will go wire to wire and claim the win. It should be a great race!
Good luck to all runners!
