Molinera Early Favorite For Cavalcade Juvy Turf

Molinera Early Favorite For Cavalcade Juvy Turf

California – The smoke makes it hard to breathe but with some off shore breezes scheduled to come in, things should be fine for Saturday’s Cavalcade Cup races.  The Juvenile Filly Turf will go as race seven on the card and this is the first time any of the entrants have ever run distance.  Only six owners entered for this $250,000 event and it is a pretty wide open race for these 2YO fillies.  Here is the field by post position.

Gate number one will hold all of Read These Shoes (7/1) a huge daughter of Badge Of Silver.  Trained by 6ward, Read These Shoes has finished in the money in three of her four turf starts.  She has only a maiden win but finished second last time out in The Can Frazzetto.  She has faced tougher but did not fare well finishing 12th of 14 in the Grade I, Filly Grand Prix.  She could surprise me, but she doesn’t appear to want the distance although she should like the class drop.

Mrs. MC Nabb (7/2) is a 2 YO, bay filly by Singletary.  This very nice gal is 6/7 in the money and has two wins including last time out in a mile allowance.  Trained by Signfeld, she seems to be coming into her own and stands a good chance in this race at nice odds.

Viscount will be represented by Cringeworthy (5/1) who must have been named when she was born with very crooked legs.  She handles them well, though again the distance may be a troublemaker for her.  She is 2/3 in the money on the turf and is another that only has a maiden win under her belt.  She is back on the grass after two tries over the main track.  Marmac trains this filly and rumor has it that she has been training well.

Molinera (2/1) is the morning line favorite and has won three of her seven starts.  She finished 5th last time out in the Grade I, World Cup Juvenile at six furlongs with a career high speed figure of 88.  She has wins in The Oriana and The Boundry Smoke but this will be her first time at a distance of over seven furlongs.  The 2 YO red daughter of Tiger Hill is trained by Triska.

Post five goes to Rahy’s Broad (4/1), a dark bay daughter of – who else, but Rahy.  Trimmed in white she has won two and is 5/6 in the money.  She should relish the extra distance and with her improving speed figures may be the one to beat.  She was a closing third in The Sal’s Mile two back, and came from far back to win last time out.  She is trained by Pointblank who told me, point blank, that she was the winner.

On the outside will be Broken Boarders (5/2) a 2 YO bay filly by Ghostzapper.  Although she is still a maiden and has never run on the grass, she did finish second last time out at a mile over the main track.  She is trained by Valleyfarm and although she is well bred she is also unknown and has a lot of questions to answer.

That is the field for the Juvy turf and I think I will go along with Pointblank and say Rahy’s Broad will bring home the bacon with Mrs. MC Nabb holding for second.  Good Luck to all.
