Deja Vu All Over Again for Devil’s Slide

(KENTUCKY) It might be a good night’s rest tonight for the Grade I Sundancer winner Devil’s Slide, but you can bet runner-up Tess Carlisle will be seeing the Kingmambo daughter (out of a Seattle Slew mare) in her nightmares for a long time.

For her second consecutive outing, Tess Carlisle had opened up 8 lengths between herself and the favorite Devil’s Slide, with the stretch shrinking in front of her. And for the second consecutive time (that they faced one another), afc‘s star 3 year old shifted down and found another couple of gears as she blew by Tess at the finish. Co-third choice Barb’s Little Lion made a mini-run of her own down the stretch to pluck show money from Dew Bomb.

Devil’s Slide, running her record to a gaudy 10-2-1 from 18 starts, moved up to 2nd in the turf classic division for 3 yr olds. Should be an interesting choice to see if afc sets her up for the BB, and if so, in what race (she’s beaten the boys before, too).

The man to my right on the rail very nearly had a stroke on the final furlong, as he began screaming, “It CAN’T be happening AGAINNNNNN!” The middle aged man was slowly led away by his companions, as he ripped his ticket into smaller and smaller pieces.
