Longshot Enjoys Sweet Smell of Success!

My preview for the Saratoga View Stakes this morning was entitled “Upset in the Making?” I hope you went out and bought your tickets on the right horse. The race at Saratoga was 12 furlongs under the beautiful New York sun and the the 3 year old colts were looking good.
8/1 longshot Fragrant Son is enjoying the sweet smell of success after easing to his wire-to-wire win. This makes 3 in-a-row Stakes races for this big chestnut colt. After two poor races on the grass, he moved to the dirt and has only finished worse than 2nd one time in seven races. He won her by nearly 4 lenghts over the North Rock and co-favorite Forbidden Treasure. The other co-fave, Beneath the Stars finished way back and there were rumors of lameness around the track which we can only hope are premature.

With the the two longshots finishing one-two, the exacta paid a whopping $141 on a $2 ticket and the trifecta was $445.

Fragrant Son is bred by Mtoto and mare Delightfully Smell who only ran one time but has certainly thrown a couple of nice looking colts in Son and Canadian Crest, a promising two year old. Her Sadler’s Wells influence was apparent today as Fragrant Son looked like he could have run forever. It remains to be seen if Fragrant Son can move up to Graded Stakes but I sure wouldn’t bet against this guy right now.
