The Rich get Richer

Auction 3371 – This week was fairly uneventful as far as auctions go, other than there were less horses going through so I had more time to visit with friends than say, last week which was just hectic!   There were the usual stables transferring money or horses and people doing the fall cleaning out of their stables of underachievers or maybe just to start making room for the coming year.  I know a lot of people have many untried 2 YO’s sitting out at the farm for various reasons.  Some were too big, some were late foals, some had minor injuries, some just weren’t mature enough to come to the racetrack and some just needed more time.  Whatever the reason, trainers needed to free up some stalls, so that meant cleaning out the injured, the tired, the questionable and the I-can’t-figure-these-out, horses from the barn.  In turn that meant that there were plenty of bargains to be had for those that fancy their skills in turning around someone else’s problems. Down from the 11 horses last week, only eight head went for more than a million dollars this week and with the exception of Fabman – all were bought and sold by residents of Delpenn or the GR Simsters.

Auction Observations:

The Bear conglomerate could hold their own private auction for all the stock they ran through this week.  They must own a lot of that Arizona land to feed all the horses they have.  Several of the Aussies were hanging around ringside this week but it might have been Nudiebar drawing them in.  I did get to sit down at my favorite table ringside with my Walkabout partner Hawk and discuss how we can turn around our dismal showing in the forenamed contest.  I hardly got to catch my breath after Hawk left with the Ossy’s 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 9 before one of my most favorite people – Jumpmoose came by.  I told him our mutual friend Connie had left him a message over in the BTB newsroom.  I wish he would start writing again because he does it so well and I sure enjoyed his articles.  Ace arrived with pictures of that taxi she used to drive and that really got us reminiscing.  She’s working at the Zoo now, and was surrounded by quite a wild group including Penguin, Sunfish, Spiderwort, and Warpig.  Theprofit and Thepoet were both on soapboxes talking to anyone who would listen.  Seamhead75 stopped by to tell me that he found his lost credits and Redhatcat stopped by for a short visit and bought me a beer.  What a nice soul!  All in all it was an enjoyable day spent under my favorite tree at the sale barn.

The Millionaires:

Topping the sale this week was a fiery red 3 YO colt by Distorted Humor out of a Pleasant Colony mare named Original Gangsta, hip number 119012.  He must have been named for his attitude because all most of us ringside could see were his big yellow teeth clacking together as he tried to take a bite out of anything and everything that was within reach.  It took a brave trainer to bid on this one that came out of the Fatattack barn but a brave one was found and he paid $5,412,000.00 for the colt.  Original Gangsta has won three of his 15 lifetime starts and two of his last six which was good enough for Fairhaven5 to take the chance.  Personally, I think, Fairhaven5 (part of the Lenny Empire) has stock in a whitening company or is owed money by Dr Paul.  I mean if one has to look at teeth, I’m sure all of us prefer white ones to yellow ones.

Reserve honors were split with one being # 140857, Nike Diamond sold by Texasace04 for $3,000,000.00 to Jockeymax.  A dark bay or brown 2 YO colt by the well known sire Zamindar out of a Czaravich mare, he has won two of his three starts and to help make him worth the money, he finished second in the other start.  Jockeymax is hoping this colt has a bright future.

Also selling for $3,000,000.00 was petite bay filly with a lovely white blaze down her face.  Sweet Lucy, # 145679, was certainly pretty enough to be worth a million dollars but buyer Wolfspond could have bought her out of the $7,500 claiming race last time she ran for a lot less money.  By Victory Gallop out of an Affirmed mare, Sweet Lucy was consigned by General and both trainers come from that hive of bad boys – The DelPenn Residency.

Running 9th last time out for $15,000 claim, the 4 YO bay colt, Tavernonthegreen # 84929, sold for $2,445,000.00 this week.  Consigned by Pgcretired, the well-conformed individual by Dayjur out of a Carson City mare has won one race from 16 starts.  I swear, DelPenn must be having some sort of a contest.

Rounding out the top five is #120925 First Blood, a brown 3 YO colt by Distorted Humor out of a Northern Baby mare.  Fattatack sold this one to his twin brother Texasace for $2,386,376.00 and the colt looks like he might be worth the money.  He’s lightly raced and has won three of his 13 starts and his speed figures are starting to improve.  First Blood will leave on the same van he came in on.

The other horses that went for the big bucks – Mambo Bull #75310, a well bred individual who won last time out for a $3,500 claim.  Glbstable (Fabman) bought Mambo Bull for $1,654,557.00 from Bigrama.  #17921 Mr. Mafiosa sold for $1,025,061.00 to Trifecta and will leave on the same van he came in on, as will #148879, Spackle sold to Fatattack for $1,000,010.00.  Fatattack probably felt he needed to offset some of that taxable stable income.

Good Luck with all your auction purchases and remember – this is all in good fun.
