Equivocations (KY) Wins First Stakes
The feature race at the Swedish track at the weekend was the Grade Two Camlaw Stakes over a mile and half a furlong on the dirt. The going was good and ten went to post for the $250,000 event.
The favourite was Saracen (KY), with top jockey M. Mason aboard for the dixiedotco stable. She took an early lead, pursued by Aurora At Sea (KY), who was ridden by W.Farthing for kindnews. Leading the chasing pack was xanderman‘s Pearl Of Wisdom (ENG), partnered by P. Cody, with nicoll’s Swanston St (IRE), ridden by the course’s leading jockey P. Jones, close behind.
As the race unfolded, Equivocations (KY), under T.O’Shea for the bunsay stable, was the one who finished best, coming from mid-division to take up the running at the top of the home run and going on to win by one and three-quarter lengths. Saracen (KY), who had held a good lead for most of the way, kept on well for second, while Banjo Attack (KY) ran on well from behind under M. Santos to finish third for simond4. The other fillies who had raced prominently in the early stages faded quickly at the business end of the race, while Seducer (KY), under the same ownership as the winner as a member of the super28 stable, barely got into the race under M. Jones, and Quantumimmortality (ENG), who finished nearly thirty lengths last, either had something amiss or hated the conditions underfoot.
The winner, a brown filly by Dynaformer, recorded her best speed figure of 89 here to take the race in one minute and forty-four seconds. She is now rated seventh in the dirt classic route rankings for two-year-old fillies.
