I love to watch the young turf runners at this time of year. We are starting to find out who are the contenders and who are the pretenders. Some of these youngsters are really starting to mature and could be the next big thing in our race world. Here is hoping that I can be one of the folks that get to say “I remember when…”. I know that many of these trainers are dreaming the same thing so let’s take a look:

1 – TIGER HILL COLT(ENG) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
5/1Reman1200021.0% J.VanDam 611 – 102 – 104 – 86 – 17% 81.45 $65,280140

(TIGER HILL (IRE) x RUN SOFTLY x MR. PROSPECTOR out of IGNORANTLY THE BIRD) Three wins in three tries for this nice looking chestnut colt. The last of those wins was the HASTY DOOR BONANZA Stakes with a sizzling 81 ½ SPF over 7F. Trainer Reman12000 is stretching him out a bit here but he has certainly had no problem with previous quests wining all three by at least one and half lengths. His run to the front style will benefit from this post position as will having VanDam on his back with his hot year going. Should be a tough team to beat.

2 – IT’S NO MYTH(AUS) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
10/1Aalusive15.7% J.K.DeKeyser 83 – 11 – 10 – 6 – 13% 79.47 $6,240N/A

( DESERT KING (IRE) x NOVERRE (IRE) x CRUSADER SWORD out of LADY HAWK) Only one race for this colt but it was a convincing win by nearly five lengths and a nice 79 SPF over 7F. Whether or not trainer Aalusive can translate that to a win in a Graded race remains to be seen but there is some nice breeding behind this colt. DeKeyser is in the leather and has seven years of experience to share with this youngster. It’s hard to say with only one race but he looks strong.

3 – MILLVIEW BRAINS(IRE) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
13/1Lightning993.3% T.Petty 86 – 7 – 10 – 9 – 8% 74.19 $14,700N/A

(DEFINITE ARTICLE(GB) x TALC x SUCCESS EXPRESS) You don’t often see a horse in a Graded race that has never had a win but that is the case here. Trainer Lightning99 started this colt off in Stakes company and though he has looked good in all three Stakes races, he doesn’t have better than a third place to show for it. I would be surprised to see him compete here especially with Petty holding the reins as his year so far is better left forgotten. Could be a tough trip for this duo.

4 – WYRM FYRE(ENG) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
7/2Khalasar23.1% T.Littleton 252 – 33 – 21 – 26 – 13% 81.00 $39,752N/A

( PIVOTAL(GB) x CAERLEON x STORM BIRD) One of only about half of the horses in this race that has actually previously run a mile, the big chestnut colt seemed to really enjoy his first mile with a two length win and a nice 81 SPF. Trainer Khalasar is moving him up to Stakes class for the first time but he appears able to compete here. He has Littleton in the saddle and he is having a solid year and likes to guide these youngsters. The colt has run both as a deep closer and as a stalker and looks ready to adapt to what is thrown at him here.

5 – LATEST EDITION(AUS) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
15/1Dinamoehum13.9% D.Kerckaert 80 – 3 – 2 – 10 – 4% 79.53 $ 19,440N/A

( AL SAMER x BOLD LAD (IRE) x TUMBLE LARK) Another undefeated colt in this race as he is two for two with a couple of marches from the rear with nice results. First time in Stakes company but I’m sure that trainer Dinamoehum is excited about this guys prospects and he showed great improvement and won without too much effort. His biggest problem here will be having jockey Keckaert up as he has performed more like an anchor than a guide on his mounts this year. Could be a problem with a young colt.

6 – UNDERGROWTH(ENG) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
12/1Hornets0710.5% Ga.Thom 162 – 15 – 15 – 22 – 9% 70.56 $ 13,980N/A

( GENEROUS(IRE) x FALBRAV (IRE) x WOODMAN out of FOREST SHADOW) This fellow has won his only race and trainer Hornets07 is about to see if he is the real deal or a one race wonder. His Mom was a turf sprinter that was always in the money but had a hard time crossing the line first. Hopefully that is one of the genes that didn’t get carried on to this chestnut colt. He stalked the leaders before his final push so may like the post although he was on the far outside in his other race.

7 – DANSE DANSE(ENG) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
5/1StormBoot20.8% T.Maes 177 – 19 – 20 – 12 – 11% 76.12 $ 12,260N/A

( DANSILI (GB) x LYPHARD x ALLEGED) Our lone filly in the race, this girl has only run at the more classic distances. After starting at 9f with a second place, trainer StormBoot moved her back to a mile which resulted with a nice win and a solid 76 SPF. They also have a solid Maes in the saddle and there is hope that this girl can compete with the boys. Young ladies at this age tend to mature a bit quicker than the colts which seem to have their minds everywhere but on racing. This is her chance to sneak a win before the end of the year and moving back to the ladies nights.

8 – SKIN FLUTE(FL) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
6/1HansG14.0% Se.Morris 427 – 48 – 52 – 59 – 11% 82.25 $ 43,075289

( MILWAUKEE BREW x STORM CAT x VAGUELY NOBLE out of FEBRUARY STORM) After winning his maiden on dirt, trainer HansG tried a couple of Stakes races with disappointing results. Last time out he moved to the turf and although just missing the win ran a sizzling 82 SPF. This race will be very interesting to see how the colt reacts once again to being in Stakes company and also back on the grass. He has Morris in the irons and he has performed admirably this year. An interesting pick on your Tri Ticket.

9 – FLYIN’ NOVERRE(IRE) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
6/1PogDig15.8% A.Smith 668 – 167 – 111 – 95 – 25% 81.84 $ 51,035130

( NOVERRE (IRE) x FLYING SPUR(AUS) x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) out of FLYING’S GIANT) This colt’s name just sounds fast and last race after trainer PogDig1 moved him to a mile, he looked fast as well. He won that race from the caboose with a furious charge down the stretch and looks like he has found his distance. His nearly 82 SPF and the fact that one of the tracks best jockeys in Smith is holding the whip puts this colt in a nice spot to contend in this race. Should be interesting.

10 – DREAM SYMBOL(AUS) ODDS OWNER WIN% JOCKEY WIN% TOP SPEED EARNINGSRANK
7/1TheForce14.2% B.Ampe 191 – 28 – 24 – 26 – 15% 80.38 $ 41,397374

( ENCOSTA DE LAGO (AUS) x LEAR FAN x BELONG TO ME out of CLEARING) Trainer TheForce had to be really excited two races back when this colt was moved to a mile and responded with an 80+ SPF and a nice win. Then in the last race, his SPF fell a bit and he really never fired at the top of the stretch, coming home a distant third in a short field. Now with jockey Ampe’s help, we will see if this colt is for real or just had a really nice race. I tend to believe the former of those choices.

Morning Line = 4-1-7-8-9
Paz Picks = 1-4-9-7-8

It’s always a crapshoot with these two year olds but I like DANSE DANSE dance to fourth in her quest to beat the boys. FLYIN’ NOVERRE seemed to really like this distance and his late running style should play well here. I have him listed in third. There is a good chance that WYRM FYRE will get the win here but I think he just comes up a bit late and settles for second. Even though it is the first time at this distance, I like TIGER HILL COLT to prevail and add to the hopes and dreams of trainer Reman12000 that this colt could be something special.

Good luck to all runners!
