The Profitable Hannah Stakes

The 4th running of The Profitable Hannah Stakes expects to see some young fillies challenge a couple of older mares for the victory. This one mile race for fillies and mares with a speed record of 102.0 should be shattered today.    Also the heavy favorites in today’s race could be shocked by a couple of long shots.  Betters need to be wary of this race.

STOLEN HEART

Seeking the Gold x Stormin Fever

I just love this lightly raced horse.  It looks like it has been well prepped for this race.  Its increasing numbers makes this long-shot a dangerous horse in its first attempt at a stakes race.  Not happy with the jockey selection but this 23-1 long shot looks to sit about four to five lengths off leaders until it is ready to make it’s move.

STRONG ACHIEVER

Strong Hope x Seeking the Gold

This will be one of the front runners hoping to steal the race wire to wire.  It has solid speed numbers and has been battle tested in last five races in which it has won one and finished second twice.  The shorter distance than its previous starts makes this front runner a major concern for the others if it left alone.  Another plus is that a great jock, Elliot, is on board this horse

SAUJON

Ecton Park x Scorpion

This 3YO filly has stumbled in its last 4 stakes races.  It’s a strange horse in that it’s wins are at the sprint level but for some reason I believe it needs more than a mile to do any damage.  It does have two wins at a 1 1/8, so this distance might not be what is needed today and the jock on board is not one of my favorites.

PIXIE DIXIE

Dixie Union x Forty Niner

This 4YO has great breeding but it yet to taste in glory in the stakes races.  This horse will definitely need a speed duel up front for this close to have any chance tomorrow.  Another worry for 5-1 choice is that its last race was just two weeks ago.  Will it be rested, and yes it has done this before. Can it maintain its speed rating give or take a point.  These tough questions will need to be answered Saturday.

RARJU’S EMPIRE

Empire Maker x Red Ransom

This 7/2 choice will sit right off the leaders if it is not one of those up front.  It has good speed numbers for a stakes winning horse.  In its last four stakes races it has won 2 and finished second in another.  It was overwhelmed in a Grade I race, but what horses haven’t been.  This is a dominate horse for the smaller stakes as long as there is not graded stakes winner in the field.

MY GODDESS

A P Indy x Storm Cat

Here is another 3YO filly challenging the older horses of this division.  It has won 3 of its last five races.  Expect this horse to challenge for the lead and attempt wire the field.  In its last race at 7 furlongs it was overwhelmed in its first attempt at stakes race, but posted a respectable 102 for that performance.  The question that needs to be answered tomorrow is can this filly go a mile at the stakes level or is it an allowance sprinter.

BARB’S SUPER DUPER

Woodman x Dixieland Band

This 5YO mare hopes Saturday will be the day it breaks out of it winless streak.  It has finished second in its last two stakes races and throw in a third place finish 4 races back.  This older horse has great numbers and being one of the many closers in this race expect a furious finish.  The interesting fact about his horse, this will be its first attempt at distance race in 32 races.  It definitely needs the distance and it is surprise to this writer that O/T jakematt has waited this long to stretch her out.  Of course 24 of 32 races ITM might be the answer.  Saturday a new era could begin for this older mare.

MODEL H

Moulin x Sinjar

O/T vampire2 has been tinkering with this young filly.  The switch to routes has resulted in 3 stakes wins.  Something happened to this filly four races back, after its success in the Bargain Oaks in which it won impressively.  The last race was more of prep for today’s stakes race according to the O/T.  The 102 rating shows me that the form has returned and danger awaits the others in the field for this 23-1 long-shot.

LOVALUCE

Storm Cat x Unbridled

This 7/2 5YO mare out of Storm Cat has tired badly in its last five races.  In 3 of those races they were sprints; which doesn’t bode well for today’s mile long stakes race.  It looks like it will attempt to sit about 3 to 5 lengths off the leader.  The numbers are excellent for this horse and even though it has got fades it still has finished four times in the money.

This is a tough choice in The Profitable Hannah Stakes.  There are a lot of experienced horses attempting to regain their glory days and a few young upstarts trying to make a name for themselves.  I don’t see a front runner going to wire to wire and the favorites all have problems.  I’m going with a long shot today to steal the hearts of the older horses and establish a model for others to follow.  Sorry for the pun.
