The ERNIE DISORDER Memorial

MICHIGAN – This race honors ERNIE DISORDER. Old Ernie was just basically a claimer all his life. He bounced around through several owners hands. Nine of them to be exact. He only made a little over $100,000 in his lifetime but he was pretty steady when spotted right earning lots of BP’s for his owners along the way. Gone, but not forgotten, Ernie passed away on an early January winter morning in 2003.

Eleven horses will go postward this Labor Day weekend in the ERNIE DISORDER Memorial going 12 furlongs on the main track. This weeks early favorite in the betting is funnyfellow’s  IN THE THEATRE(GB) on the board at 2/1.

1   TIZ THE KEY TO WIN  (trained by dougiec)    18/1
(TIZNOW x THUNDER GULCH x KEY TO THE MINT)
– A patient trainer is dougiec. A $20,000 claim nearly 2 years ago, TIZ THE KEY TO WIN was nursed through allowances till lo and behold, he won one. Only his second win ever. The first was a $20,000 maiden claimer very early in career. He now owns 3 wins lifetime and finally got the Stakes monkey off his back winning The ESKIMO JOE Memorial two starts back. TIZ THE KEY TO WIN will likely get lost in the shuffle early on in this weeks race. If he can find room to run late, he may be able to grab some lesser spoils.

2   PEANUT SAL(IRE)  (trained by tomb)   21/1
(EMMSON (IRE) x MULDOON x SARATOGA SIX)
– A 4 year old filly from tbgifted’s endless stream of long distance runners. And yes, EMMSON(IRE) is, of course, a direct son of Ela-Mana-Mou(IRE). She will provide some early foot in this race. She made a bobble leaving the gate in her last start and consequently was no factor. Tough place to be for this filly this week and how far she can go before company comes to run her down is anybody’s guess.

3   IN THE THEATRE(GB)  (trained by funnyfello)    2/1
(IN THE WINGS(GB) x THEATRICAL(IRE) x CAERLEON)
– Another speedburner leaving the gate. The start of this race should be interesting as the #2, #3, #4 and #7 horses are all probably going to leave like bullit’s. The one that actually gets the front will have a leg up on the other three since all 4 seem to need the lead to be at their best. A winner of 5 minor stakes including his last two in a row and many times graded placed, IN THE THEATRE(GB) is a deserving race favorite this week.

4   RUN RIGHT PASSEM  (trained by glbstable)    7/1
(SUNDAY SILENCE x SECRETARIAT x BUCKPASSER)
– Now a horse that I’m all too familiar with since he races off Fabman Farms. He only has one stakes win to date. But he can flat out fly, at least for awhile. Doesn’t have that killer instinct to put other horses away in the stretch. He does have the ability to make this an interesting race for everybody involved. If he gets away on top, there is no telling what will eventually hit the board when the dust settles.

5   HIGH FIVE II  (trained by lucky7)    6/1
(SEATTLE SLEW x ALYDAR x BUCKPASSER)
– Third choice on the board is this nice looking 5 year colt that owns 14 wins from 35 lifetime starts. Regally bred, he has an outstanding late rocket that should benifit from a hot early pace here. Trainer lucky7 deserves all the credit for turning this horse into what he is today. Plucked out a claimer for $13,500 in May of 2003, it took lucky7 just 5 starts to get HIGH FIVE II his first stakes win. Seven more stakes win would follow. This guy is the real deal and quite a steal.

6   ORANGE GROUSE  (trained by peckville)    12/1
(CARTWRIGHT x EASY GOER x TIGER LURE)

– This 6 year old will be looking to lay in just behind the leaders hoping they burn each other up. He may be the horse to take first crack at them turning for home. How much effort he exerts trying to get by the tiring leaders and how much life laying close to the blistering speed takes out of him will determine his fate finishing. He has some talent and could get the jump on everybody and spring a little upset in this race at 12/1.

7   AXIUM DARBY  (trained by flstables)    11/1
(SADLER’S WELLS HIGH TOP(GB) VAL DE L’ORNE(FR))
– More fuel for the fire leaving the gate is this 6 year old with fleet feet. He also knows where the winners encolsure is too, with 11 wins lifetime. Hasn’t won in awhile with his last coming late last year, a 2 mile 10 length romp. In fact, his last 5 wins all came at the 14f-16f range. Maybe he is finding these recent races too short. In any event, at his age with 41 starts under his belt, he is still very fast but his legs have been getting whobbly late in races.

8   ELKANO(GB)  (trained by zalamy)    8/1
(BEAT HOLLOW (GB) x DARSHAAN(ENG) x HABITAT )

– This 4 year old can rush the gate too but does not seem to quite have the early speed that some of the others have here. Can lay just off the pace as well and will probably be how his race will shake out this week. Six stakes wins to his credit suggests he isn’t out of his league here at all. The Rafa Stables are always dangerous and always sends them out ready.

9   CROWD FAVORITE  (trained by deantroops)    8/1
(CROWD PLEASER x BARKERVILLE x BUCKFINDER)

– Another possible uppsetter if the race were to break right for him. Will leave and get decent early position behind the early fireworks. Has only one stakes win to his credit so far but it was in a division of the Rock’s Texas Cooking Series. Not exactly racing against chopped liver there. Murray Farms has strayed a little east of their NWRC roots with this one having compaigned around the midwest in his last 5 or 6 starts. It hasn’t been an easy trip for this colt who seems to race better out west.

10  DIG ME OPEN  (trained by goodwin3)    5/1
(OPEN FORUM x ROBYN DANCER x DIGAMIST)
– Second choice on the board this week and has never tried the turf yet in 26 lifetime starts. Kind of an in and outer. Doesn’t race to his potential in every race. If you take any stock in patterns or even biorythms, should be his good week. This will be the longest race DIG ME OPEN has ever been entered in. Lot’s of reasons to be skittish pounding too much money on this guy at such a short price.

11  DEPUTY CROW T  (trained by pup)    28/1
(SMART STRIKE x DEPUTY MINISTER x RAISE A NATIVE)
– Last, and probably least, looks like Ted’s Stables may have dropped their slip in the wrong box this week. I just don’t see this 6 year old competing this week. If he wins, expect an all out investigation. 🙂

Have a safe holiday! If you have any spare change, the American Red Cross can use it.
