The Challenge-2nd Week
The first two runners of the new year hit the track and both brought home BP’s and a fist full of sire cards. RESERVATION FOR ME, a multi surface talented horse traded the turf for the dirt this week and also swapped the starter allowance level to return back to claimers. Going 10.5 furlongs in the $15,000 price tag category the 4/1 third betting choice in the 13-horse field was able to show his slow start and strong finish ability. His win was a strong one as he pulled away from the field by nearly three lengths to touch the line first and picking up his 19th career win in 44 starts and the fourth win while residing in the stable. Three sire cards were handed out for the win, all flipping a G-cards and 22 BP’s.
BABS SEEKING LUCK, the only horse to start and finish the year in last years Challenge series took on a mile distance on the turf in a $5,000 claiming race. He broke slowly from the gate, very typical with him, and made a a move to cut his deficit in half from 8 strides to four and finished third. Got a pair of G-cards in the card flip and 15 BP’s too.
Babs Seeking Luck needs a rest and will be sent to the farm. His speeds are good but the rest may lead to improvement. Moving out of the farm is the 4yo filly VYZA FRANCE. She’s finished first or second 14 times over her 19 lifetime starts and will be traing to start in a couple of weeks.
At the end of 2018, I used BP’s to obtain a share in Lope De Vega. I’ve been in search of a potential mare, preferably one who favors the grass, to breed with this sire. The stable holds three potential candidates, however, I’m looking for better quality in the bloodlines. I’ve made a couple of claims during the week and none panned out, however, I’m willing to spend some of the BP’s in higher claiming levels, with 232 currently available.
Next week, I have 3 horses looking for a spot on a race card. The week concluded with 5 G-cards, all traded up for an F-card.
