Ruckus Smuggling Dirt Mare Sprint going 6 furlongs in West Virginia

Ruckus Smuggling Dirt Mare Sprint

Restricted to 3 Year old and Older, Fillies and Mares Only

Distance: 6 Furlongs

Post Time: Saturday, December, 22, 2018

Surface: Fast Dirt

I took last weekend off due to slicing my finger while cutting potatoes on the mandolin which has made typing extremely difficult, which it still is. But I will attempt to get through it today.  I am heading over to West Virginia this week to see a nice looking field of eight fillies as they travel 6 furlongs in the Ruckus Smuggling Dirt Mare Sprint.  The track is listed as Fast for these fillies they attempt to catch the wire first and get a stakes victory.  The morning line odds and post positions have been set.  Let’s take a look as to how these fillies stack up as I preview this race.

Horse/Odds                                                       Owner                                  Jockey

1.  Astra  7/2                                                       boro                                      J Druzd

This 5 year old mare by Galileo grabs a nice post for her running style as she likes running up front in her best outings.  On 10/28/2018 she ran 3rd going 8 furlongs in the Tic Tic Toc Dirt Mare Mile where she faded and was caught in the stretch.  Stepping down in distance today may be what she is looking for and could contend at the wire.

2.  Pancho Por Siempre  6/1                         treefarms                            D Esperado

Sired by Ad Infinitum this Utah bred filly has stakes experience but has yet to put that feather in her cap.  She last ran on 11/24/2018 in Idaho going 6.5 furlongs in a $19,500 NW1S Allowance where she placed 5th in that race 5 ½ lengths back at the wire.  She looks to improve today and may need to show a little more leg.

3.  Miss Milwaukee  7/1                                 kenneth07                          P Haynes

She is a 3 year old filly sired by Distorted Humor and is a scratch breed.  Her last trip to the track came on 11/18/2018 in the Howling Success Dirt Mare Special going 7.5 furlongs and found herself on the boards 3rd in that race grabbing her SP Badge.  She ran a nice 106 speed.  She picks up a nice jockey for the trip and could contend in this field.

4.  Princess Penny  15/1                                 pennysrunners                 VJ Mustoe

This 5 year old mare by Flower Alley is posted by the odds makers as the long shot in this field.  Her last outing came on 09/30/2018 in the Beech Slap Dirt Mare Memorial where she came in way back at the wire.  She comes in off a good rest but will need to find more gas in the tank against this crowd.

5.  Cause I Need Kash  5/2                            zitchkash                             K Proehl

This scratch bred filly by Giant’s Causeway catches the eye off the morning line odds makers, and with good reason.  She has posted three Listed Stakes wins in a row.  She has a total of 20 career starts and has only been of the boards three times.  She is the top money winner in the field today.  She last ran on 11/03/2018 going 6.5 furlongs in the Blue Sky Mine Dirt Mare Sprint where she closed nicely to take the wire 1st by ¼ lengths.  She should make good effort to continue her Hot Streak.

6.  Mo Twitchy  4/1                                          be1stfarms                         C Shoemaker

This filly sired by Uncle Mo comes in off of a Allowance run in Texas on 11/17/2018 going 7 furlongs.  She placed 6th in that race 3 ¾ back at the wire.  She does have prior stakes experience but all attempts have been fruitless for her.  She does pick up a nice jockey to take the trip with her in this race.  She will need to show improvement from her last few outings to find herself on the boards.

7.  Highland Wildcat 5/1                                 frosted                                 V Gardner

This filly sired by Maclean’s Music made her stakes debut in her last outing on 09/22/2018 in the Teeming Rain Dirt Mare Dash running a 102 speed in that race at 6.5 furlongs.  She found herself 6th in her debut some 5 ½ lengths back at the wire.  That was her only career start to be off the boards in 15 life time starts.  She looks to get back on the boards again in this her second attempt at a Listed Stakes run.  She may be a horse to watch in this field.

8.  Gutha Astatine  11/1                                 crown                                   G Scott

This filly by Uncle Mo has been on a Hot Streak and has shown she likes to win.  Her last outing came on 11/18/2018 going 6 furlongs in her first stakes outing and wins in the Brahmide Dirt Filly Sprint where she closed the gap to take the wire 1st by ¼ lengths.  She picks up a good jockey to take this trip with her today and could be contending coming for home.

Good luck to all horses and all owners of this race.  Most importantly have fun!!!

Skippy’s Picks

1.  Cause I Need Kash: Top money winner, on a hot streak and picks up a top jockey for the ride.

2.  Astra:  The distance may be right for her today.

3.  Miss Milwaukee:  Should get a good trip and contend here.

Tarton’s Long Shot

Gutha Astatine:  The price is right at 11/1 odds to make this Old Grey Filly my long shot.  She is on a hot streak and has shown to like the distance.  She could upset this crowd.
