Welcome racefans to Pennsylvania for the first edition of the Sim World Cup. We are here for the Ladies Classic over ten furlongs. Let’s check whether our three teams were able to bring over their finest mares?

Team Australia/New Zealand/Far East (FENZA)

The Fenza team in this race looks to be pretty weak and contains only one mare that might be able to go top 5 and better.

PP         Age            Name                            Trainer              Odds            Pedigree

11         4F            MAKEITSHORTER              hawk5               9/1            High Brite x Hostage x Lucky North

Record: 26 races: 6-5-3

Bargainbredfilly out of the hawk5 stables that is 138th ranked in the older females dirt division.  She is having a pretty consistent season on Stakeslevel with a couple of places and a win. The win was two races ago where she ran 9f and brought it home in a speedfigure of 98. She has posted a +100 speed figure once in her career and that was this year on 10f. To have a chance she will definitely need to go over the 100 again, and she also has no experience at Graded Level whatsoever. Probably out of her league in this race.

3          4F            WHY DID YOU STOP          bigkev               19/1            Swain x Seattle Slew x Danzig

Record: 30 races: 5-3-5

Let’s hope the trainer won’t have to ask the question Why Did you Stop when the race is over. This filly had a good start of her career as two and early three year old: she won the G2-Hello Goodbye Stakes over 9f in her first race as a three year old. That same year she did win another Stakesrace but she has not really progressed anymore: this year she even is posting worse speed figures than in that G2 race. It looks like this year she switched from trainer and looking at her last race she might be improving a little bit again. Anyway this is gonna be her first race on 10f and I think she might like it, but on the other hand she will be outclassed in this G1.

10         5F            CHOPPING HILL             meguire5th        7/1            Woodman x Danehill x Halo

Record: 40 races: 7-10-8

This 5y old mare has the most weight on her shoulders for the Fenza team. She is ranked 21st in her division and has the most experience from all 4 horses on Graded Level. She won a G2 at 9.5f dirt at 3y and had a couple of places in other Graded Races. In G1’s she each time failed however. She still has to earn her first win this year but she already placed twice in a G3 posting +100 speed figures each time. She has not been able to continue posting those speedfigures in her last three races and hopefully it won’t deteriorate further in this G1. Anyway: she is the best chance FENZA has in this race and at 7/1 the bookies do give her a good chance too.

2          3F            GRAB THE GENE              crawf68             25/1            Generous x Seeking the Gold x Secretariat

Record: 9 races: 2-2-1

This frontrunner is only still 3y of age and looks to be in this race only to complete the team. She started racing this year and looks to be ok in allowances, but at Stakeslevel she already has proven to be not competitive. This G1 therefor must be too farfetched for her. I believe this frontrunner will quickly run out of steam in this race and the bookies give her the worst odds of the lot.

Team Europe/Scandinavia

The European team looks to be more balanced as the Fenzateam, with better ranked fillies at the start.

PP         Age            Name                            Trainer              Odds            Pedigree

9          4F            GRAN RED                        swampy             6/1            Intikhab x El Gran Senor x Blushing Groom

Record: 19 races: 9-0-4

This 4y old mare is Europe’s highest ranked filly (18th) and thus the best chance for getting some points in this G1. This filly only was out of the money once in her 19 races and started showing real improvement this year. Early this year she posted her first +100 speedfigure in an allowance at 10f which she won. She stepped up in class the next race and she immediately won her first Stakes also on 10f. She won two other Stakesraces this year but on top of that she won a G1 in a light field over 10 furlongs. She is in form , winning her two last races so she definitely will be a dangerous filly in this race over the distance she seems to like most.

7          4F            REMEMBER PADAM               rafita              5/1            Unbridled’s Song x Kris x Lyphard

Record: 28 races: 8-4-5

64th ranked filly and former Stakeswinner trained in the Rafa stables. Just like Gran Red this filly also seems to be really in form posting +100 speed figures in her last four races. Last time she even posted a 107SP which is her careerbest. She has run a G3 once before without success, but she seems to have come at a point to make a stepup in class again which could be more succesfull this time. Not sure whether G1 level is suited for her, but with her recent speeds she could be a dangerous outsider. Strangely enough she has the second best odds this morning and might the bookies know more?

1          4F            EUSA                                 voltereta          15/1            Cat Thief x Rahy x Mill Reef

Record: 17 races: 6-3-2

The Rafa stables send a second filly in this race and this is still a youngster of 3y old. She is ranked as 41st

In the 3y classic dirt ranking and this is the first time she will face older females. Earlier this year she finished 3rd in a G3 in a good 101speed wich was followed by a second place in a Stakes in a 100SP. Her last two races however she was not able to continue these good performances and the stepup to G1 and G2 still seems too big for her at this moment. Since she is stepped up again in Class and again against older mares I believe she won’t be part of the play today.

8          4F            CAPOEIRA                             noia                  7/1            Theatrical x Sadler’s Wells x Buckpasser

Record: 30 races: 6-6-7

Capoeira is out of C-grade Mare DENOIA who seems to be performing very well as a broodmare by having foaled two Graded Winners and this Graded Placed Capoeira. Capoeira had a pretty good 3y old season by winning 4 Stakes races but this year only managed to win one Stakes. She has matured and is able to post a +100 Speed Figure from time to time, but she has not improved enough to be able to repeat those constantly. She is a frontrunner and will likely try to make the pace in this race for the other European fillies.

Team North/South America

The American team looks to be strongest in this race. They have entered two three year olds but one of them is third in her division already. This is the team to beat.

PP         Age            Name                            Trainer              Odds            Pedigree

5          3F            BLACK TUESDAY               fairhaven2         9/1            Storm Cat x Kingmambo x Sadler’s Wells

Record: 12 races: 8-3-0

If there is one 3y old in this race that might have a chance beating up the older females, it is this royally bred filly from the gigantic and overall fantastic scoring Evil Empire (winpct of +19% over 56 stables !!!!!!). This filly has never been out of the top 2 in each race and sits on a 4 race winningstreak of which the last 3 races were all G1’s. This filly has an incredible acceleration in the stretch and even seems to have won her last races pretty easily: two races back she was 7 lengths behind at the last call and managed to win that race with 6 lengths. Her last two races we saw her post +100Speed figures and I believe she even can do better since she relatively easy won those races. On a roll and very dangerous horse for the win : look out for this third ranked filly in the stretch.

4          3F            TOUGH AS STEEL               pbcash              14/1            Ghostzapper x Seattle Slew x Alydar

Record: 11 races: 7-0-0

And here is the second filly of the Evil Empire and also this one seems to be on a roll as she sits on a four race winning streak. She has been trained gentily and won her step up to Graded company last time out very well. She is not a deep closer like BLACK TUESDAY, but she also won her last races with a good advantage (3 to 5 lengths ahead) on the second. She does seem to like the offtrack better than a fast track, so we might see her having difficulties to go over 100 speed which should be necessary to win today.

12         5F            BLESSED BELLE                 texasace              9/2            AP Indy x Deputy Minister x Gone West

Record: 35 races: 13-8-7

The American team couple young violence to older experience. Blessed Belle is the 26th ranked mare in the classic dirt division and as a frontrunner she has a very consistent this year to date. She won two Stakesraces and one Allowance race: all at 10f and 10.5f. She also managed to place herself two times on Graded Level and only failed to post a +100SP twice. She had a gentile and easy prep end of August and should be fit for this race. According to the bookies she will be the one to beat today.

6          5F            INTENTTODISTRIBUTE        ordpye2                7/1            Red Ransom x Sadler’s Wells x Selkirk

Record: 26 races: 7-4-2

The Big Oil Conglomerate send us the 6th ranked mare in the classic dirt division. She also is a frontrunner and will most likely try to post another wire-to-wire win. That she is capable of doing that on this level she has proven in the G1-Movieland Shiny Cup and G2-Larry Laffer Stakes which she won with half a length ahead of the second and each time with a 106 Speed Figures. She failed two races ago on an offtrack, which she dislikes and had an easy preprace which she strangely enough lost. She will have to improve from that last performance and prove she is the worthy favourite.

The American team in this race looks very strong, with two older horses and two very dangerous upcoming youngsters. They both have the early speed (INTENTTODISTRIBUTE and BLESSED BELLE) and they have the strength to be very dangerous in the stretch (BLACK TUESDAY and TOUGH AS STEEL). The only horse in my opinion that might put a spoke in their wheels is the European REMEMBER PADAM and maybe also GRAN RED. I do not think the fenzateam can come close with CHOPPING HILL.
