WHO WILL BE THE FASTEST CAT IN NEW YORK GRADE II FILLY ROUTE
The fillies are on display today in the 15th race co-feature at New York this weekend in The Grade II Fast Feline Stakes for 3 year old fillies. A field of 8 are entered in the 9 furlong route on the dirt and will chase the top share of the $250,000 purse.
Let’s take a look at today’s field:
1)DARK PLACES(IRE)—4/1—foxon4 sends this filly out of BLACK TIE AFFAIR(IRE) with a record of 10-5-4-1 and lifetime earnings of $324,720. She is out of the mare HI JINX who was 17/46 at the track and who has 2 foals on record, both winners including 1 stakes winner. This 19th divisional ranked filly races for the Alpine Turf Club division of Foxon Stables. This filly was unraced as a 2 year old and has never finished out of the money in all 10 lifetime races run this year. Included in that is a stakes win and 2 top 3 finished in Graded stakes races. She posted her lifetime best 99 speed rating 3 starts back while winning The Ray’s Dancers(IRE) Memorial stakes over 9 furlongs in Ireland and she came back to match that next time out while finishing 3rd in The Grade III First State Oaks in Deleware. She is a speedy filly and it is expected that she will be cutting the early fractions today. She has already been a winner at today’s 9 furlong distance. The rider for today’s race will be Child (13.4%) who will take over from Gunn who rode her here last time out in a 2nd place finish in The Grade I Birmingham Stakes.
2)YOU’RE A TOWEL(KY)—5/1—watershed sends this filly out of ELUSIVE QUALITY with a record of 11-6-0-1 and lifetime earnings of $1,377,840. She is out of the mare SPARKY SAINT who was 0/3 at the track and who has 4 foals on record of which 3 are winners including 1 Graded stakes winnner and another stakes winner. This 4th divisional ranked filly races for the RVD stables based over at the GR Simsters. This filly had a quick start out of the gate as a 2 year old winning her first 3 lifetime races including back to back Grade I events. She then finished 6th in the Grade I Breeders Bowl Juvenile Filly to break that streak. She has picked up 3 Grade II wins so far this season including The Grade II Louisiana Oaks earlier this year where she posted her lifetime best 101 speed rating over 8.5 furlongs. She has also won the Grade II Los Vinegrette stakes and the Grade II Denny Tario Oaks this season. She finished a dissapointing 13th in the Bluegrass Oaks. In her last race she was never a factor in a Grade I Smackdown III event but it could be attributed to a bounce after her big win in Canada in the race prior. She is a closer who usually sits way back early and begins her rally around the far turn and in the stretch. She is a proven winner at today’s distance. The rider for today’s race will be Jefferson (9.1%).
3)SISTER DEW(KY)—7/2—ce5s97p sends this filly out of TALE OF THE CAT with a record of 13-7-4-1 and lifetime earnings of $388,290. This 15th divisional ranked filly races for the EAAA divsion of The Royal Belgian Kempen Farms. This filly was a stakes winner at 2 years old and has added 3 more stakes victories this season including a Graded stakes win in her last start. She won The Grade II Wooly Mammoth BB Oaks in New Jersey last time out posting her lifetime best 107 speed rating over the 8.5 furlong race. That was her second straight triple digit speed rating and continued an upward trend in her ratings throughout her sophomore year. She is a speed horse and will have company with DARK PLACES(IRE) today early on in the race. She will have to reverse a trend of coming up short in the final 1/2 furlong and will hopefully be able to handle the extra ground in today’s race. If she can repeat her performance from last time out she would be very difficult to handle today. The rider for today’s race will be Lawton (22.6%) who is the leading rider at the meet this season.
4)LOCKED ON HIGH(FR)—9/2—wdfifty sends this filly out of HIGH YIELD with a record of 13-5-1-2 and lifetime earnings of $284,485. She is out of the he mare OUR LOCKS who was 11/86 at the track and who was able to carry his lineage on in the sim via the new medical procedures now being performed at The Simulated Sports Equine Clinic in Kentucky. This 26th divisional ranked filly races for the unafilliated WD stables. This filly is a 2 time stakes winner this year while winning back to back races earlier this year in The May Emblem Special Stakes and The Grade III Leopard Stakes. She posted her lifetime best 102 speed rating while finishing 2nd in The Grade II Wooly Mammoth BB Oaks and she will have to contend with SISTER DEW(KY) who won that race again today. She is a stalker closer who will definitely have some speed to run at today. She has yet to post a top 3 finish in races 9 furlongs or longer and it would appear that she prefers the 8-8.5 furlong distance at this stage of her career. The rider for today’s race will be Migliore (8%).
5)THE SELFISH SINN(IRE)—14/1—cthomas sends this filly out of SINNDAR(IRE) with a record of 18-3-3-3 and lifetime earnings of $60,075. She is out of the mare THE SELFISH ROLL(AUS) who was 0/11 at the track and who has 2 foals on record of which 1 is a winner. This 510th divisional ranked filly runs for the Corza stables based over at Queensland. This filly actually broke her maiden last year on the turf and then did not win again until 2 starts ago. She has posted back to back allowance wins of late including posting her lifetime best 94 speed rating over 8.5 furlongs last time out. She is 0/4 in stakes starts with her best finish being a 2nd place finish in an 8 furlong turf stakes. She is a closer who sits well back early in races and she will be looking for her first win at today’s distance although she did run a 2nd place in a 9 furlong allowance earlier this year. The rider for today’s race will be Ambrose (5.6%).
6)VERA GEMINI(KY)—5/1—super15 sends this filly out of KINGMAMBO with a record of 14-5-2-3 and lifetime earnings of $330,580. She is out of the mare PARALLAX who was 7/29 at the track and who this is the only foal on record. This 33rd divisioanal ranked filly races for the Super Stables More Evil Than The Evil Empire stables based over at Del/Penn National. This filly raced on the turf in her 2 year old season and the first 3 starts this year and did win 3 times and had several top 3 stakes finished on the lawn. She won her first 2 starts on the dirt earlier this year including The Grade III Snaggin’ Wagon Stakes in North Florida where she posted her lifetime best 106 speed rating. She has tried the top of the division in her last 3 starts managing 1 third place finish but her speed rating have been going in a downward trend which will have to be reversed today if she is to have any chance at victory in this race. She is a closer who sits well back early and charges hard in the late stretch when she is on her game. She has posted a stakes win at the 9.5 furlong distance already in her career. The rider for today’s race will be Dishman (14.1%).
7)KATHERINEOFARAGON(FR)—7/2—gipper7 sends this filly out of HIGH YIELD with a record of 14-5-3-2 and lifetime earnings of $1,414,881. She is out of the mare KING OF SPAIN II who was 1/16 at the track and who has 3 foals on record of which 2 are winners including 1 Grades stakes winner and 1 stakes winner. This 2nd divisional ranked filly races for the unafilliated Gipper stables. This filly was a 2 time Grade I winner at 2 years old by taking The Grade I Getaway stakes here in New York and The Grade I Movieland Starlet in California. She added 2 more Grade I wins this year in The Grade I Black Middle Flower Stakes in Maryland and The Grade I Sister Hen Stakes here in New York. She posted her lifetime best 105 speed rating in the latter of those 2 wins. Last time out she could not sustain her rally and ended up 3rd in the 10 furlong The Grade I Birmingham Stakes here in New York and while DARK PLACES(IRE) finished ahead of her that day the drop back down to 9 furlongs here today may be what is needed as it appears to be this fillies preffered distance. The rider for today’s race will be Buda (5.2%) who’s the second generation rider after his father was a top rider for many years here in New York.
8)ON THE WAGON(KY)—13/1—kindone5 sends this filly out of R C INDY GO with a record of 21-2-3-3 and lifetime earnings of $84,201. She is out of the mare CIROREYEV who was 3/47 at the track and who has 2 foals on record, both winners. This 1003rd divisional ranked filly races for the unafilliated Kindone stables. Both of this filly’s wins came on the turf in her 2 year old season. She is 0/2 in stakes races, also both on the turf. She has 3 top three finishes in 8 starts on the dirt, all allowance races. She posted her lifetime best 94 speed rating 2 starts back while finishing 2nd in a NW1N allowance race over 8.5 furlongs on the dirt. She does show versatility in running styles by having raced both on the front and coming from behind but has really never shown any success when racing past the 8 furlong distance. The rider for today’s race will be Bullock (7.3%).
Well a compact field of 8 in this one today and I really feel that if #1 DARK PLACE(IRE) and #3 SISTER DEW(KY) get into a speed duel today they will set it up for #7 KATHERINEOFARAGON who I am picking as my choice today.
