The disparity was greater than ever in the seventh chapter of the OLD MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN Series II. Our winner NIJINSKY LOVESGOLF can now hit the links and wait around to see if our host T. LOCK can pull out a win and lower the restrictions to get him back in the series. Previous top finisher and controversial horse THE COW’S MOO finished third to stay in the hunt for the overall series championship and SOUTH SIDE BENTLEY finished second to keep his hopes alive in the series. Once again, T. LOCK finished fourth, just off of the board as there was just three quarters of a length between the second through fifth horses.
The truly amazing part of this race was at the other end though. It was a real Snail’s Race out there and the pace was nearly non existent with an unbelievable seven horses under a 55 SPF and two of those in SINGLE DIGITS! If there had to be a photo finish at the end they would have had to use a special slow motion camera! Sun Dial leader BELL COGNAC didn’t finish last for the third time in a row as the new horses they are throwing at him in this race continually get slower. Next to last was our caboose from the last race in the OMOTM series, DOOR SALLY who tried mighty hard to replicate her last snail-like pace. She had an 8 SPF and LOST! The rear was brought up by newcomer HOLY PULPIT who ran an amazing TWO SPF! I’m telling you folks, that is barely moving. They had to run two races around her on the track the following day! She was so far behind that they had to give a cell phone to jockey Stinson so he could call when they were getting close to the finish line! In a special note, I received work that perennial anchor THEIR FIGHT, the twelve year old Maiden has run his last race and will head to the breeding shed as a never-winner. We can only hope that his offspring doesn’t get too many of those slow genes!!
There are still three races left in the OLD MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN SERIES this time around. Lots of things can still happen, especially if the restrictions change either up or down. Almost anything can happen in this marathon series and usually does. It looks like that has already started to be the case. Stay tuned Race Fans!
