The HUNGRY FOR DONUTZ Stakes

Another small turnout folks for the Stakes race today in the Hungry for Donutz race.  Aptly named as there is a stall out there boys and girls giving out free donuts in honour of this race. So go and get them and mums and dads will be there as well for sure.  The card today is:

Post 1:             7/2       STEAL A DANCE BED(IRE)             (bedford)

Out of Danehill Dancer (IRE), this young girl three times with her only win coming on her first time out in a maiden race.  Since then her speed rating has improved to a peak of 69 last time out in a high classed allowance race coming in fifth place and fading in that one.   Her previous 2 runs were over 4.5 and 5.5 furlongs respectively with her last time out over 6 furlongs.  Her first two runs she was not fading at all but in fact powering to the finish line so it will be interesting if 6 furlongs is going to be too long. I would suggest not and look for her finishing fast at the end.  Real chance this one in my book.

Post 2:             5/1       LAY GLOOM(FR)               (beamerclm)

5 races equals 3 wins.  That’s pretty impressive with one of those wins at Stakes level.  Out of Layman she has been getting stronger as her distance has been increased.  Last time out was over 8 furlongs and she proved capable at that distance finishing fast to take the win.  Back to 6 furlongs again she has to have a very good chance of taking it out.  Good speed and a good run will be all she will need.  No gloom about that I can guarantee you.  Strong chance. 

Post 3:             5/1       MAD STAR(KY)  (graywolf5)

Trained by graywolf5, a respected trainer of considerable talent at the local Queensland track, Mad Star is out of Don’t Get Mad and looks good out there I can tell you.  Was performing well on dirt until 2 races ago when the uncanny talents of the trainer swapped her over to turf with great results.  Higher speed ratings and a second place in an allowance race. This was followed up by a run at G3 Stakes level and high speed rating of 74.  That was over 7 furlongs and she only faded at the last there.  So with this one over 6 furlongs she may well be a strong contender here.   Certainly she favours the turf over 6 furlongs at this VERY early stage.

Post 4:             6/5       FAIR GO(NZ)       (thematrix)

Now this one is the raging hot favourite for the race and not only because she is New Zealand bred out of the famous Zabeel (NZ).  First time out was a win over 5.5 furlongs on turf with a speed rating of 73.  Last time out and her second run she came in second at Stakes level over 6 furlongs with an impressive speed rating of 77.  No wonder she is the hot favourite here and mine too I would suggest. Hard to go past her really. 

Post 5:             7/1       ORATOR’S CORNER(IRE)              (remy)

Out of Oratorio (IRE), she has raced 6 times for the one win.  That one win though was a good speed rating of 69 over 6 furlongs in a maiden class race.  She led from the jump to finish so she can certainly hold her own at the front when she gets there.  Jumping up a bit in class here but still with every chance at this early stage in her career.   Will need a good run as well as some speed to take this out.  She needs to get out front early and stay there.  Worth backing in my opinion certainly for a top 3 finish.

Post 6:             6/1       IT IS AS IF I CAN(NZ)                       (chagrin)

Surprisingly the odds are 6/1 for this fantastically named girl.  Out of Pins (AUS), her last 2 times out were very good runs both at Stakes level resulting in a second place and win respectively.  Now has the experience at this level as well as the speed results so in my view has to be considered along with the favourite to take this one today at Queensland.
