Sophomore Colts set to duel in Balmy Spain

         Hello race fans and welcome to balmy Spain for an exciting day of racing . The highlight on the card today is the Non Anonymity Special – G II for 3 yo horses going 6 furlongs over a fast dirt course with $ 250,000 in prize money to whack up .  Valuable Stakes points are at risk with the Breeders Bowl right around the corner .  Trainers are scrambling to get a berth in the Sim’s most important week of racing and all the stops are being pulled out to achieve this end .

 

 

    In post 1 at 8 / 1 is the Trifecta trained colt TRIFECTA TAXES(CA) ( Salt Lake x A.P. Jet x Boldnesian ) ridden by the consummate veteran jockey I Anderson .  With only 2 defeats last season , this colt was looking like a formidable force with 3 Stakes wins and an honorable mention in the Breeders Bowl Sprint . This year hasn’t gone quite his way coming out of the gate fast and fading lately yet still putting up respectable speed figures .  His connections send him across the pond to take on European class in today’s event in hopes that he can shake off his latest beats and get his career back on track .  His natural penchant to run at the front has served him well in the past resulting in 7 career wins and $ 485,000 in earnings .

 

    In post 2 is NOT ANOTHER QUIRT(KY) ( Hennessy x Freud x Storm Boot )  trained by quirt and ridden by journeyman jockey T Dillard .  The first foal of Stakes winning mare Quirt’s Storm , this 3 yo Chestnut has been traveling the European / Asian racing circuit amassing a record of  17 : 5-4-3 and  $ 190,000 in earnings to date .  He makes his graded debut going off at   10 / 1 and is coming off an impressive win in Sweden’s The BLUES AT MIDNIGHT Bonanza – STk going 6.5 panels of off dirt in 1:16:1/5  July 21 st . 

 

     In post 3 at 9 / 2 is the steller1 trained ION STORM(KY)  (TALE OF THE CAT x AGNES WORLD x SAINT BALLADO   )  ridden by the sensational journeyman D Craft .  An unremarkable freshman season has turned into a promising Sophomore effort with his last 5 starts being in Stakes company resulting in 5 : 2-1-1 including his last win June 23 rd in Michigan’s  The Cat Parade Memorial – STk going 6.5 furlongs in 1:15:3/5 and a career best 104 Spf .  His first trip across the pond is in Graded company and connections are confident of his prowess .

 

    The betting favorite represent’s the Evil Empire and is trained by lenny271 and goes off at 5 / 2 . DAYTONA BEACH(KY) ( STORM CAT x FORTY NINER x AJDAL  ) is coming off a red hot near miss in Smackdown III – STk over 6 panels in 1:09:1/5  106 SPf  .  The first foal of Stakes winning mare Daytona Heat , this colt has an impressive record of  9 : 3-2-1 and $ 220,000 in earnings to date .  Graded company is the logical next step and should be a major player when the field turns for home .

 

     In post 5 is the long shot BUSTING TO LEAK(KY) ( ELUSIVE QUALITY x STORM CAT x SUMMER SQUALL ) 19 / 1   from the stables of trainer jarrod5 and ridden by journeyman jockey L Staysniak .  A Graded winner at 2 , this colt has been a bit of a disappointment this season and connections are hoping to kick start his career with a trip across the pond in Graded company .  His only career win came last season although he did grab a place in Graded company earlier this year in Indiana’s Special Bid Stakes – G III .  Things gotta be shook up to get this colt back on track , today just might be what the doctor ordered .

 

                      In post 6 is the danno3 trained BORN RUNNING(KY) 14 / 1 ( DIXIELAND BAND x DEPUTY MINISTER x MISWAKI  ) ridden by journeyman jockey P Coryatt .  A Sophomore without an identity , this colt is struggling to make his mark in the 3 yo division . He did win in Alw company this past July going 6 panels in 1:10:4/5  88 SPf .  Another step up in class today should make for an interesting choice of races next time out . With the breeding of this colt it wouldn’t surprise me to see him successful going much farther in distance .

 

    In post 7 is EARLY PEAK(IRE) 6 /1 (  IN EXCESS(IRE) x STORM CAT x HONEST PLEASURE )  representing trainer stupor8 and ridden by the great T Monk .  The 1/2 brother of Stakes winner Bulgaria , this colt has achieved Graded victory already and this race is just another feather to be gained for his proverbial hat .  He’s coming off a bad beat in the Smackdown III – STk  July 21 st and is looking to turn it around in today’s clash of wills .  4 wins in 15 races has this colt looking to step it up and make his mark in the 3 yo sprint division .

 

    In post 8 at 7 / 2 is the Fatattack trained  RIO SECCO(KY) ( SKY MESA x FUSAICHI PEGASUS x THEATRICAL(IRE) )  ridden by star newcomer M Zeus .  G I placed at 2 and making an appearance in the Breeders Bowl Juvenile , this 3 yo colt has really matured and been on FIRE lately winning his last 2 including a brilliant victory in the Sim Complainers Special – G II going 6 panels in 1:09:3/5 for a dazzling  102  SPf over this very same track .  Dissed by the betting public , this colts connections are geared up to make a big statement this weekend with their charge .  Look for him to make that patented late move and come storming home to make his presence felt at the wire .

 

    On the far outside at 5 / 1 is the kaif014 trained kitty lover TIRED WINGS(KY) ( POLLARD’S VISION x DANZIG x KINGMAMBO  ) with the consummate journeyman jockey C Puschel in the irons . Yet another talented runner dissed by the oddsmaker , this filly has won 6 of 9 career starts including 4 of her last 5 .  Throw out her last start going 7 panels in slick dirt in G I company because this filly is for real and with her penchant for sticking her nose out front … she’s gonna be hard to catch at the wire .
