The Honored Miss: Angel’s Trumpets Look to Sound Once More

New York (NY) — Sunday, August 5, 2018 — 2:20:00 PM EST

The Honored Miss — 6 Furlongs on Dirt

Grade II — Purse : $375,000

Restricted to 3 Year Olds and Older, Fillies and Mares Only

New York welcomes a field of 12 filly and mare sprinters, most of whom are looking for their first graded stakes win. In order get that coveted silver star, however, they will first have to contend with Angel’s Trumpets. Winner of The Nutcracker last year, this DISTORTED HUMOR x STORM CAT x SEATTLE SLEW scratch breed looks to bounce back from a tough spring and summer and demonstrate that she can still win big at six years old.

1: Digginnosegold
Owner: desertdog11

MIDNIGHT LUTE x FORTY NINER x SEATTLE SLEW
9/1

With two nongraded stakes wins under her belt, this four-year-old has taken a step up in class with consecutive also-ran finishes in Grade 2 dirt sprints.

2: Swanro
Owner: arton
PIERRO (AUS) x AFLEET x EL GRAN SENOR

8/1

Won the G2 Davey Jones Handicap and G3 Blackhawk Cup as a big underdog last year but has failed to hit the board in seven straight starts.

3: Made Ready
Owner: mtk76stc
MORE THAN READY x A.P. INDY x STORM CAT

9/1

Daughter of G2 winner Made Indy USA, finished second at the Quote the Raven last fall. Ridden by M. Kelly again for the third time in six starts.

4: She’s a Breawty
Owner: 3dddz
MILWAUKEE BREW x WANTED x CLASSIC CAT

19/1

A Canadian longshot in her third attempt at a graded stakes race, achieved most of her early success out west racing in Oregon and New Mexico.

5: More War Senorita
Owner: rickybobby4
WAR EMBLEM x EL GRAN SENOR x MT. LIVERMORE

6/1

The second favorite at 6/1, has won three of her past four outings in ungraded stakes races. Her two attempts at the G3 level resulted in 8th and 5th placed finishes, however, and this is another step up in class.

6: Stylo Rags
Owner: pastmaster
UNION RAGS x BERNSTEIN x MORE THAN READY

9/1

Daughter of a G2 winner who finished 2nd in three straight Grade 3 races this spring, had a disappointing outing last time on the track but could bounce back in style.

7: Clash of Bones

Owner: ksparrow2
DECLARATION OF WAR x FORTY NINER x THATCHING

28/1

Finished in the rear of the G1 Princess Looney a month ago, but does boast a stakes win after a long layoff in June.

8: Spirit Maker

Owner: super18
INVINCIBLE SPIRIT (IRE) x BERNARDINI x EMPIRE MAKER

12/1

Fell off the race last time out in the G2 Best Flight. Her other recent speed numbers haven’t impressed but this is when things started to heat up a year ago.

9: Paradoxical War

Owner: xpansion7
WAR FRONT x DISTORTED HUMOR x STORM CAT

9/1

Finished in the money in all but two of her 18 starts. Facing the longest odds of her career in a step up to graded stakes.

10: Allthroughtheyears

Owner: blankpoin6
STORMY ATLANTIC x RAHY x NIJINSKY 2ND

13/1

Second attempt at the G2 level after finishing 12th in the Virginia Madison. Runner-up to Lingerie Party last time out.

11: Cross of Joy

Owner: stable92
CROSS TRAFFIC x BLACK TIE AFFAIR x LYPHARD

27/1

Pretty unknown after missing all of 2016 and racing just twice last year, but finishing 5th in a stakes race on this track last month has her owner confident in this test.

12: Angel’s Trumpets

Owner: koza
DISTORTED HUMOR x STORM CAT x SEATTLE SLEW

4/1

Oldest horse in the race, but still a clear favorite. Looking for a bit of grade relief after a disappointing string of results to start 2018. If she can win here, perhaps it will kick off a campaign to avenge last year’s Breeders’ Bowl F and M Sprint runner-up finish.

13: Sherpa Zip Tie

Owner: manon
CITY ZIP x AWESOME AGAIN x DANZIG

7/1

Decent record as an underdog going a mile, but it remains to be seen whether that will translate over a shorter distance. Came from way back to win an ungraded stakes race in May.

14: Pivotal Strikes

Owner: goldeneye2
IVOTAL x SMART STRIKE x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY

54/1

A huge underdog and the only three-year-old in the field, coming from a turf background. However, the track will be sloppy and she won a dirt allowance race last time out in the mud.

Zero idea how how mine or many here will run in the slop.
Only one way to find out

Digginniosegold doesn’t mind the slop. She will need an early lead though. Good luck all.

Great race DD. Thought there was a chance to catch her, but she held on strong.

I gave her a shot in the slop. Nice to be lucky every now and then.
