Welcome to Longchamp for the running of The Total Wolf Special. A regular stakes over 14 furlongs for Fillies and Mares, 3 y and up. We have an evenly matched field of 6 where 1 youngster is taken it up against some older and proven mares. A late summersun is shining over the firmtrack for what should be an interesting hard fought battle.
PP Age Horse Owner Odds Pedigree
1 3F MAADLY claimace 9/2 Manila x Broad Brush x Boldnesian
Record: 6 races: 3-3-0
The youngster out of this field can start in gate 1 and will be tested again against older mares. Her first test was two races ago also in a small field which she won brilliantly. If you look at her record it is to question whether she can do worse than second place. She unquestionably is one of the better routers of her generation and she will be stretched another furlong in this race. I believe this filly will be one to have on the radar this year and next year in these marathonruns. She is running for one of Jacklad’s stables which has a good strikerate (Win% 14.5; ITM% 45.1). Disadvantage might be the not so wellproven Jockey.
2 4F SATIN SMOOTH farm304 6/1 Smarty Jones x Mr Prospector x Danzig
Record: 14 races: 6-2-1
An even better strikerate has this stable of farm304. Seeing the recent results of this mare it is obvious this trainer knows how to pick the races: she won her last 4 races but it has to be said these were allowances and a small field Stakes. I do believe this field might prove to be to tough for her and that is also what the bookies believe. However she is 6/1 which is not that bad either.
3 4F DEPLOY THE BONE ksparrow11 9/2 Husband x Deploy x Sadler’s Wells
Record: 28 races: 10-5-2
We have some good trainers in this race: this stable of the Ksparrow Bones empire manages an incredible 24.7% win% and an impressing 57% ITM%. And what a good claim this mare has been to her current trainer: 10 wins in 21 races. It must be said that most of these wins were in Starter Allowances. When the tag expired she was entered in allowanceclass where she already posted a 102SP on 14 furlongs. Her latest stepup to Stakesclass has been a success two races ago where she won a 13f race in a small field. She looks to be a frontrunner and I fear that if she is not able to keep in front in the beginning of the race that she will not further try to run a good race. Good filly, but I have my doubts about this one.
4 5F K’s WESTERN MAGIC sheen 5/2 Sadler’s Wells x Gone West x Blushing Groom
Record: 34 races: 9-6-6
Beautifully bred mare who will definitely will make a very good broodmare in the future. She is the oldest of the field today and has proven the last two races – which she won – that she is still at full force. Already a winner of 6 marathonStakesraces she surely has the most experience today to be able to win this event. Next to Deploy the Bone she is the second horse that posted a 100+ Speed and this was in a Stakesevent which she won. One of the topjocks will mount her today and offcourse she is the favourite according to the bookies.
5 4F ZIPPY DA DO DA sloma 3/1 City Zip x One For All x Northern Baby
Record: 17 races: 4-5-1
This 4y old mare looks to be one for which each distance seems to be too short. It appears she can run forever.
It took about 7 races before this lady started to show some sparks of what she would be capable of. That was late as a 3y old where she won 2 allowances in a row and managed a 2nd place in her first Stakes. She has been running very consistent since then, but it must be said she has not been capable of winning a Stakes just yet. She looks to be a closer who always comes too late and that again might be the case in this race.
6 4F DIVINE DIVINITY shamran5 3/1 High Chaparral x Peintre Celebre x Irish River
Record: 24 races: 6-3-4
What a godly name and what a godly breed this filly has. The topjock of the track – Wu – has chosen this mare to mount and that might be with good reason. She looks to be in full form, posting a carreerbest 97SP last time out and just failed by a head to win in her last race. She is capable to win Stakes as she already has proven 3 times. Like most in this race she is not good enough for Graded races but very well fit for these small field marathonraces. She is also a frontrunner and I think it will be between her and K’s Western Magic today.
Conclusion: we are looking ahead at a very even race and I believe the frontrunners will be dictating today: K’s Western Magic , Divine Divinity and Deploy the Bone will be battling for the lead and I think the one that comes out of the gates as second might have the best chance here. I don’t think Deploy the Bone will be able to hold it so it will be between the other two. Youngster MAADLY might surprise today.
