Supertoy’s Classic Will Separate The Men From The Boys
SIM HISTORY DAY: SUPERTOY’S RACEOUT CLASSIC GIII, 8f fast dirt, $125.000, all horses, 3 years old |
Louisiana- Sim History Week is in full throttle for the 9th Anniversary of the creation of this great game. Sixteen sophomores have come out to play around a mile’s dirt course. It’s a toss-up as to who will win.
By Odds…
6/1 Eddie Ru Kidn has been all business these past 4 starts posting speeds ranging from 102sp to 109sp; he’s been ITM in a G3, G2, & G1, as well as winning an open stakes. Rrlogan’s colt loves taking the lead and charging full throttle. If he gets loose the rest of the field may end up spinning their wheels.
Pedigree: Eddington X Be My Guest X Pancho Villa
Okay, I have a weak spot for the 7/1 Mr. Eko(ire). If any LOST fans are reading this you feel me on this one – it’s a great show, absolutely love it. I’m sure trainer & breeder pointe agrees with me. But back to the horse, Mr. Eko has been running very consistently all year. Throughout the
Pedigree: Street Cry X Forestry X
Here is where you want to put your money… on 8/1 Wooden Minister. This colt has had a great year with a 5;3-1-1 record. Trainer pogs1 has eased his charge into this race with love and care. The colt is rewarding him by winning with ease. Last time out was a stakes victory by daylight with a 106sp. The time before that was an easy open allowance win with a 108sp. I’m looking forward to seeing the Minister run on Saturday.
Pedigree: Hennessy X Woodman X Deputy Minister
Breaking from the outside is trainer buckpasser’s 8/1 Eight Track Mind. ETM has plenty of early speed and most likely will use it on Saturday. He is a tuff one, too; when challenged by another colt for the lead this guy just keeps on trucking pulling out the stops to try to keep his nose in front. His best speed figure came in June in the open stakes Lite Nijinsky over 8.5f – he ran a 106sp that day while finishing 3rd, losing by ¼ lengths. Most recently ETM ran 5th with a 102sp in the GI Smackdown III – it looks as if his jockey tried to rate him midpack. The colt did make a small move, but he didn’t have his normal prowess. Definitely a contender in Saturday’s race.
Pedigree: Borrego X Forty Niner X Sovereign Dancer
9/1 Storm Herd has had a really great year thus far with a 6; 3-2-1 record. He’s won 2 of his last 3 starts with an awesome 107sp most recently. If he doesn’t bounce he’ll be a huge factor in the finish. But in my opinion stellar3 has the colt right where he wants him.
Pedigree: Dehere X Trempolino X Niniski
Lucky’s Capital is 10/1 morning odds. Trainer winorplace has trained this colt well – he began the season with a bang winning his first 4 starts by daylight and establishing himself as a top contender for the Bluegrass Derby. When the big day finally rolled around Lucky’s Capital had run dry. Winorplace tried the colt once more in the Triple Jewel races, but no such luck would grace them. A short rest and then back to the drawing board. Lucky’s Capital ran the race of his career last time out in the 9f Buckeye Derby winning by 2 ¼ lengths and posting a 108sp. He’s got great odds making for a juicy bet.
Pedigree: With Approval X Kris X Damascus
10/1 Well Played Ted is trained by pick6. The colt has not had the most success as a sophomore. His best performances of the season have come in the 9f Buckeye Derby where he finished 2nd behind Lucky’s Capital while posting a 105sp and the open stakes Ferprival Special where he lost by ½ length. All of his other starts have been out of the top 3. His pedigree says turf, and he’s ran his best over sprints… Those may be a couple avenues down the road.
Pedigree: Theatrical X Well Decorated X Green Dancer
11/1 Henianlauch has not been the same horse since having his heart broken in defeat in the narrow Bluegrass Derby lose. Crandyiv is shortening the colt up to 8f in hopes of awakening something in him. He prefers to take the lead, but doesn’t have much courage in a dogfight. His best speed figure is a 104sp. I have a feeling he will be more dominant in sprints.
Pedigree: Hennessy X Ogygian X Relaunch
Trainer oaklawn88 brings 13/1 Schoenberg. This colt has had 8 races in the past 5 months so that makes me wonder if fatigue will affect him or if this particular colt thrives on such a demanding schedule. The colt’s best performance came last time out in the 9f Back To Drawing Board Stakes – he finished a beaten 3rd while running a 102sp. Looking over his races it appears he runs the best when rated off the pace – a few times he’s gone for the lead and that did not bode well. If jockey M Goff can keep Schoenberg from becoming rank we may see a good run by him.
Pedigree: Pleasantly Perfect X Unbridled X Caro
16/1 Creepy Mesa has not shown the dominance he served up as a 2yo last year. I think that is what may have prompted trainer darthblur to give the colt time to maturate and figure himself out as a horse. It has now been almost 3 months since we last saw the little bay and I, for one, am eager to see what he brings to the table. I think a prep leading into this race may have been a good idea, but you never know. Creepy Mesa’s best race as a 3yo occurred back in January’s Giant Slayer Classic where he just missed running down the leader, finishing 2nd by ½ length with a career best 101sp.
Pedigree: Sky
16/1 Adhesive didn’t have the greatest early spring campaign. His trainer, the baker2, was overheard saying that the colt was “having a lot of growing pains.” They turned the colt out for a couple months before bringing him back in July. Adhesive dropped back before making his move to miss winning the G3 Hoover Hcp with a 107sp. If that was the real deal then most likely this Saturday we will see something even better out of the colt.
Pedigree: Cozzene X Woodman X Miswaki
Lenny1 brings 20/1 Forty Deuce. The colt has been riding a rollercoaster all season with his up and down performances. Lenny gave him a breather between April and June. Upon his return he took full command of a small allowance field over 8f winning by 2 ½ lengths with a career best 101sp. His next start (last time out) did not go as smoothly with Lenny watchin’ his charge finish well up the track in 13th.
Pedigree: Point Given X Forty Niner X Blushing Groom
Fittler’s 16/1 Blastshaft has not been around two turns since this past March. He has been running real well in sprints, so you could very well see him up on the front early on. If he gets too much distance on the field, though, he may wire ‘em. His best speed figure is a 105 over 6f.
Pedigree: Mineshaft X Blustery X Barkerville
Simsters7’s has 17/1 Last Rights. The colt has been floating around the allowance ranks the past couple of months. In the process he’s posted two of his best speed figures (both over 8f), one a 97 and the other a 100. He loves the lead, but can also sit just off the pace. If he drops too far back he won’t be in contention for the stretch run. His graded races were nothing to write home about, but those were back in spring so there’s a good chance that he may have done some maturing since that time. Still, I would look else where for my bet.
Pedigree:
At first glance jonsnow’s 22/1 Watergate Scandal looks quite deceiving, but don’t let him slip by at those odds – he’s sitting on a big run. Toss out the turf race (in which he won) two back. Get rid of both the 11f disaster in May and the sloppy race in April. That leaves you with a lackluster March race and a February win against open company. Most importantly it leaves us with his best performance to date, a 103sp in the Smackdown III going 8f. One thing that may factor into a problem with him is that it appears that if he can’t get the early jump then he folds his cards.
Pedigree: Empire Maker X Deputy Minister X Mr. Prospector
Longshot 36/1 Tull’s Bai Bai(ire) is bred & trained by hebbe. He’s coming into the event off of two (lackluster) turf preps. He has not raced around 8f dirt since April, but even then he finished way up the track. Prove me wrong, but I think the colt should try sprints again. His best speed figure is a 95sp.
Pedigree: Azamour X

My Picks…
I don’t really like this part as I personally think I jinx the names I choose… but here guess.
I’m partial to Mr. Eko given that I am a huge Lost fan and he’s a consistent horse. I’d love to see Creepy
1st: Wooden Minister
2nd: Lucky’s Capital
3rd: Storm Herd or Eddie Ru Kidn or Adhesive
Haha! See, I can’t choose! J
GOOD LUCK TO ALL! ~Keely J
