Fastnfirm’s Weird World of Sires: Dispersal

So I said I’d write about little-known or little-used sires in the sim, and it’s been a LONG, LONG time since I wrote such an article.  Here’s hoping I can get back on the ball.

Dispersal, a 1986 son of Sunny’s Halo, was a millionaire and a top-class runner on the track.  His 3-year-old campaign included wins in the NYRA Mile, Louisiana Derby, and Risen Star.  He also finished on the board in the Blue Grass, American Derby, Round Table, and Breeders’ Cup Sprint (won by Dancing Spree).  At 4, he won the Woodward and the Cornhusker.

While standing at stud in real life, he sired 6 crops of racing age, including 110 foals and 6 stakes winners.  His finest runner was Hesabull (Mervyn LeRoy H. winner), also available as a sim sire.  Another top earner was multiple graded-placed Bomfim.

In the sim, he averages one offspring per year as a damsire (as of this writing, he does not have a 2007 foal as a damsire), with 66% winners.  His 2005 foal is GENERAL’S ORDERS, by Forty Niner.  This scratch bred is running triple digit speed numbers for Havana.  His propensity for dirt sprints could be more his sire’s influence than Dispersal’s.  Dispersal has very few of the common sirelines other than Halo.  He will likely be an outcross to whatever Mr. Prospector and Northern Dancer line sires you would choose to use with him.  If you’re looking to line-breed to Halo, you could use sons of Machiavellian such as Best of the Bests or Street Cry, sons of Rahy like Noverre or Fantastic Light, or even More Than Ready or Harlan’s Holiday.

Dispersal can be had for about 30 to 40 breeding points.  He is available as a damsire or dam’s damsire.
