dunn fun – “Jockeys on Horses Getting Milk” Episode 6
This piece of fictional fun is a chance for us to be introduced to one of the SIMS jockeys based on a popular TV show that features Comedians and Coffee.
WELCOME TO THE ANOTHER EPISODE OF “JOCKEYS ON HORSES GETTING MILK”.
On today’s show we are riding two rare Knabstrupper Mares. The Knabstrupper breed was first established in 1812 in Denmark. A chestnut mare with leopard complex blanket markings was bred to a solid-colored stallion, producing a colt with dramatic spotting. The mare and her son were each bred to many other horses, producing many offspring with spotting and establishing the Knabstrupper as a breed. They do well in dressage and show jumping, and are used in general riding, as carriage horses and as circus horses. Knabstruppers today are bred in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Netherland, United Kingdom, USA, and, most recently, Czech Republic, Australia and New Zealand. Today we are riding “Zebra” and “Dalmatian”.
My guest today is Flip Gossett, a twenty-one year veteran Jockey out of California. Flip is the career leader in wins and money earned in the SIM with more than seventy-three hundred wins and close to half a billion dollars in winnings. Flip is single and enjoys playing the guitar and golfing in his spare time.
I’m DUNN and this is “JOCKEYS ON HORSES GETTING MILK”!
Dunn (on phone): Hey Flip its Dunn, I’m in the neighborhood and have two great horses for us. Want to go for Milk?
Flip (on phone): I would love to Dunn, I have been looking forward to your call.
DUNN ARRIVES AT FLIP’S HOUSE
Dunn: What do you think of our horses today? Have you ever seen a Knabstrupper?
Flip: No I haven’t Dunn. I have read about them and have seen some pictures but this is the first time seeing one in person and riding one.
Dunn: Not everyone likes the look but I think they are beautiful and these two are very friendly and enjoyable to ride.
DUNN AND FLIP CLIMB ABOARD THE SULKY CARTS
Dunn: I have to ask right away as I have been wondering. How did you get the name Flip?
Flip: It isn’t a nickname if that is what you are thinking. It is my given name and I have always gone by it. My Mom is originally from New Jersey and she was a fan of a local comedian named Flip Wilson and when it came time to name me she chose to give me the name of someone who had brought her much joy and laughter.
Dunn: You have had a great career. What would you say has been the secret of your success?
Flip: I have been lucky throughout my career to have developed great relationships with a lot of SIM owners and have earned their trust. As a result I have been given the opportunity to ride many of the best horses and have therefore had some success.
Dunn: Do you plan on continuing your career for many more years?
Flip: My plan is to hopefully race until I am fifty and then I will try to transition my career and become a pro golfer and join the PGA Tour Champions.
Dunn: I thought golf was just your hobby. You really must be good if you have those aspirations.
Flip: I currently have a four handicap and know that I could lower that if I was playing more often. I would not have the dream if I didn’t think it was realistic and I will not pursue it if I am not going to be successful.
Dunn: Do you have a favorite horse that you have worked with over the years or a favorite win?
Flip: It is actually a horse that I just worked with a few weeks ago. He is a bit of a surprising colt bred and owned by the downsontherock barn. Rough Contributer from Sire Contributer has finished in the money in all seven of his career starts including a win with me at an allowance race that covered five furlongs. I love an underdog and I hope that this horse continues to improve and that I get a chance to ride him in a big race sometime in the near future.
Dunn: It has been great getting to know you today Flip. I wish you continued success and look forward to cheering you on in your next career on the links. Thanks for being my guest today. Are you ready for some Milk?
