The Alpha Cat Bonanza Stakes

The Alpha Cat Bonanza Stakes here today. Welcome people to another fine day of racing at what is the superbly maintained Queensland race track.  Good selection of local trainers have entered this today which is always good to see of course.  You can guarantee the local kids will be looking out for them.  Shall we see whats on offer today? Maybe a little bet here and there?  Ok, lets go…

Post 1:             7/1       GENEROUS JEWEL(IRE) (superfecta)

Trained by well known superfecta from the Queensland Residency, Generous Jewel is a champion in her own right with half a million bucks in earnings and 11 wins to her name.  Has struggled of late but is coming off a nice win at the allowance level with a very respectable speed rating of 95.  Can definitely win this easily with a good run.

Post 2:             7/1       KID THUNDER                    (bountyhawk)

Another Queensland Residency entrant, Kid Thunder has 4 wins from her last 29 outings. In and out of Stakes and Allowance racing, has been performing consistently with a top 5 finish in 7 of her last 8 races.  Likes to sit off the pace and rocket forward through the pack down the straight look for her finishing fast.  Placing but well in it for the win as well.

Post 3:             7/1       DANCIN RANSOM            (socalsipe)

Dancin Ransom, 4yo mare out of Red Ransom, 7 wins from 25 with 2 of this wins in the last six months.  In fact one of those wins was with a speed rating of 103 in an allowance so this girl can definitely run.  Likes to sit up front just off the lead and must be considered for the win here.  Needs a very good run though to take it out.  Good odds.  Worth backing.

Post 4:             6/1       CHOICE IS YOURS(AUS) (mcsheen)

The only Aussie registered horse in this Stakes today, and well worth considering at 6/1 odds.  Trained by the mcsheen stable, is another which has been in and out at this level of late.  Last couple of outings have been good speeds but will need to improve on that to take out the win.  Ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys, the choice is yours as to whether you back this one.

Post 5:             11/1     THE WINNER ISN’T          (cjjonesz)

Just outside of the real favourites in this race, could well be the winner no matter what her name says.  Has been a consistent runner particularly a few months ago in the early part of the year and needs to find that form again to be any chance here.

Post 6:             62/1     GIN CREEK(IRE) (brenton)

The local QLD trainer is hoping for a lot of luck to swing their way with Gin Creek and will need every bit of it.  Has not been running well and out of form which is why the bookies have given the big odds here.   Long shot of the race but sometimes they surprise everyone and come in. Will it be today?

Post 7:             12/1     SON’S MT.           (oneworld)

Had a shocker of a race last time out and the trainer wisely gave her some time out in the paddocks eating the sweet grass and rolling around in the sunshine just enjoying life each day as horses love to do.  Well its back to the track now and if you discount her last outing she is certainly worth looking at.  Had good speeds and good placings.  Will she perform? I think she will. Place chance.

Post 8:             6/1       FUTURISTIC        (shades)

This one looks impressive.  Coming off 3 emphatic wins at the allowance level and very good speeds to boot.  Has been running longer distances but tends to run up front any way so this wont bother her even with the shorter distance.  In form and has every chance to win this.

Post 9:             4/1       JOE’S DESTINATION       (ginzo3)

One of the older ladies here today, very graceful and a pleasure to watch.  Folks, she can run big speeds and has been doing so in Allowance racing.  Should she continue to run like that here, she will be in the first few across the line.  Out of Dubai Destination and trained by ginzo3.  Trainer hoping against hope she gets the big win today.

Post 10:           21/1     DR. MED. XX(GB)              (mamaxerxes)

Surprisingly at 21/1 is the 2nd long shot of this race. Form has been very consistent and is now stepping up to the Stakes level to prove her mettle.  A 3yo so she still has young legs and will need those legs to run very very fast here.  Good odds if she comes in.  Good odds even if she doesn’t come in – only difference is you won’t win anything if she doesn’t.  Possibly…

Post 11:           4/1       FLAMBEAU         (deajai2)

And equal favourite of the race from out wide is the very well respected Flambeau.  Respected because she has plenty of experience running at this level.  Respected because she has over a million bucks in earnings and has 21 wins from 48 outings.  Respected because she is the oldest gal in this race.  Can she win?  Not sure to be honest. Not the young gal she once was but has the record to prove she can run.  Big chance for sure.

For those of you who punted on my picks last week, some of you will be winners.  Congratulations.  Some of you may not have been winners. My personal commiserations.

My picks then for this race are:

FUTURISTIC

JOE’S DESTINATION

FLAMBEAU

I’ll be back after the race with a short review and comment on how the race finished including an analysis of how my picks fared.  Enjoy the race!
