Magoo’s idiot’s guide to playing this game
Now that you have your horses what should we do? Most of the horses you get will most likely have been in the horse pool for a fair amount of time and if you train them will not come up sharp, so I think in the first week of racing we should try and race all 5 of our horses. Now the horses we get are most likely to be crap so we are going to try to find easy races where our horses will be competitive so first off we need to look at what kinds of races there are and try to find races where out horse will be competitive. Ok let me start of looking at race type’s from the easiest to the hardest types of races.
Restricted Claimers: When looking at claimers the lower the tag the easier the race is but what makes these races even easier are the restrictions. If you found a claiming race that is a 2k nw1x that means the tag is $2000 but the races are restricted to horses that have never won at allowance level or higher if it was 2x then your horse would not have been allowed to win more than 1 allowance race. Or $5k nw2s would be none winner of 2 races of any kind in the past 6 months. Now if the letter is a t it stands for 3 months, s for 6 months n for 9 months and y for a year. Or $2k *220 now this type of race would mean that your horse’s CPU Value must be below 220 for you to get a start in the race. Another restriction is (T) which means to start in this race your horse must have raced at the same track in its last race.
Unrestricted Claimers: Are a little harder because they are open to any horse that wants to be in the race. They can range from a $2k claimer to a $150K claimer. The other type of claiming race is the maiden claim restricted to horses that have never won a race (but hopefully you have selected you horses well and don’t have any maiden horses yet).
Now before I go on what is a claimer? A claiming race is where any other person in the sim that likes your horse can buy it from you for what ever the tag is. So if you enter into a $5k claimer and I decided I like your horse I can buy it for $5,000. The thing is you have no choice but to sell it for that price so if you enter such a race you must be prepared to lose it.
Next are starter allowance races these races are restricted to horses that have raced in a claimer over the past 6 months that has a tag the same as or lower than the current race. So if you were wanting to enter a $15k starter your horse must have been in a claiming race with a $15k tag or less to be eligible to run this race. The advantage racing these races is that nobody can claim your horse but the disadvantage is that you earn less BP’s in these races.
Maiden races are for horses that have never won a race but the horse cannot be claimed from you.
Allowance races are races are the next highest form of race the have bigger purses and also earn you stakes points they can also be restricted and unrestricted this is where you find 2nd tier horses.
Stakes and Graded race are what every trainer in the sim is aiming for. But it is way to early for us to be looking at these races with the horses you would have. The order they go in from higest to lowest is Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3 and then stakes. For those of you who live in Australia that would be Group 1, Group 2, Group 3 and listed race.
With most of our horses we would be looking at $2k claimers as we need to start earning cash and BP’s. The first race is the most important of all because in a horses first race for you, you get the bonus of double BP’s. So if you win a race where you would normally earn 25 BP’s you would get 50 instead. So after studying out horse and looking for the best distance we now must enter races.
(Just a side note I use firefox when playing rather than Internet Explorer it is better opening tabs rather than new windows).
So to enter I use Rafi the sim entering tool there are normally other tools around the sim but this is just the one I use, it is found in the my stable section. Next to your horses name. Open it in a new tab. Then it gives us a whole range of variables for you select so in this case lets say we want a race that is a 6f dirt claimer we would hit dirt claim <8 and hit find and it would come up with all the races we could enter with those variables then we would click on a race and look at the other horses entered in those races to see which race suits us best. We could select 2 races by hitting the 1 on the right hand side it would be our first choice by hitting the 2 it would be our 2nd choice. Now when looking at races you will notice a cost column that is how much it will cost for you to transfer your horse to that track to race and the small number next to it is how many BP’s you will lose if you earn any for the cost of travel. If you earn zero BP’s in a race you can’t lose them.
Once you have chosen the races you like you need to go into the entry matrix and you will see the number of the races you chose already listed on the screen, go down to the bottom and hit check entries it will show you how many points you have so if you click on the race number again you can see where you would fit into the order of entry. If entering for Tuesday or Friday races you need to be in the top 8 to get a run while for Saturday the number extends to 14 (or 20 for some restricted races). If you make the field click enter and you are now in the race.
It‘s also important to note closing times for races:
For Tuesday races Tuesday 6:00am Game Time
For Friday races Friday 6:00am Game Time
For Saturday races Wednesday 6:00pm Game Time
Ok now that we have entered the races we need to go into the jockey select page and pick our jockeys for the week. Some say jockeys don’t matter but I think they are very important and may just help you get that extra SP or 2 that may make the difference between winning and losing. Now we have entered our races we have till wait till race time to see the results
