Casey Tibbs (13465)

For this second article I chose a cheap sire that brought me my first (and only) bargain bred Stakeswinner: Casey Tibbs is a son of Sadler’s wells and a product of the famous nick with Mill Reef (or better with Never Bend). Casey Tibbs had an outstanding race record winning 6 races from 7 to 10 furlong. He stands at stud in South Africa and is becoming a household name between breeders over there.

Casey Tibbs gave me NIGHTFLIER (ID 115127) who won the openingrace of the Bargain Bred Series this year and became the first stakeswinner in the sim for Casey Tibbs.

Whereas in real life Casey Tibbs was more of a turfer, his progeny in the sim seems to like prefer dirt but indeed also seems to have a preference for same distance as the sire.

In the sim Casey Tibbs only has 19 active runners of which 1 stakeswinner. A closer look to the better runners in his crops (besides 1 stakeswinner he does have a couple that were stakesplaced) shines an interesting light on their breedings: Sons of Prospector as Damsire seem to work well (woodman, mujadil, rhythm, alnaab, kingmambo, forty niner) and also inbreeding to Northern Dancer and Hail To Reason. The inbreeding to Northern Dancer is almost in each of his better runners with exception to my Nightflier, but that one got a 4×5 inbreeding to Hail to Reason and Ribot.

Casey Tibbs has been bred to expensive sires as Woodman, Kingmambo, Seattle Slew, Forty Niner. Although this resulted in winners it did not result in starhorses and therefore according to me this sire in the sim should be coupled to mid tier and bargain damsires.

My breeding advice  would be to try and go for the following, preferably all combined:

–         try to get a son of Prospector as Damsire (CHESTER HOUSE, BARKERVILLE, MINING, CAPE CANAVERAL, FORT CHAFEE, HUSSONET, GOLD TRIBUTE, GEIGER COUNTER, TWO PUNCH, NAEVUS,…)

–         try to get a 3×4 or 3×5 inbreeding to Northern Dancer

–         try to get a 4×5 or 5×5 inbreeding to Hail To Reason  (JOLIE’S HALO, SOUTHERN HALO, SUNNY’S HALO, CELESTIAL STORM, BRIAN’S TIME, BOLD ROBERTO, LEAR FAN, MAJOR IMPACT, CURE THE BLUES, PROUD CLARION, BOLD REASONING)
