G2 Longstickgoboom Stakes
Welcome all to the 6th running of the $300,000 G2 Longstickgoboom Stakes in Newmarket. Race is open to all horses 4yo and up and will be run on turf at 12f. The previous 5 winners of this race have gone on to earn more than 1 million dollars and some go on to sim legend status. Puppet Regime won this race last year and just last week showed that has not yet lost it by winning the G1 Doomben Cup. Other winners include $5.4 million and Eclipse winning mare Krishna, $7 million winner Bristol Rovers and $4.9 million winner Majestic Water. Jockey A Craig who is aboard DUR champ Director this year has won 3 of his four rides in this race in what could be a defining factor in the stretch.
PP #1 – TETE DIALYSIS(GB) (sabbath) 5/1
Started the year with a three length G3 win in the Mean Joe Green and has been thumped in his last two starts. Showed he has huge ability with the G3 win and must regain that form here. Has only broken 100 SP twice in 38 races with both coming in his last five starts showing that he is in good form. The step up to 12f is not a problem and he may just steal a place in this with Bradley aboard who has 65 wins at 18.3% this year. Inside gate doesn’t help his deep closing style.
PP #2 – SIMULATION KING(IRE) (legends2) 3/1
Very lightly raced 4yo Desert King colt who has won 6 of 9 career starts to date including a stakes win at 10f before his last start 5th placing at 10f in G2 company. Was beaten by some great horses in that run and came from over 14 lengths behind to close within 4 before he ran out of ground indicating that he may be very dangerous at 12f. Tends to get a very long way back and Really rattles home and probably should have been given this trip three starts ago. Edwards aboard has 20 wins at 15.6% and will need to ensure his ride is timed to perfection if he is to win as I have no doubt he will run ITM.
PP #3 – ONE FINE DEPUTY (n2racing) 14/1
Some mediocre performances mixed in with some great 16f gut busters is the way I would describe this 4yo son of Seeking The Gold. Not convinced he is bred for ultra distance but has a G1 win at 16f to prove me wrong. This appears his best bet against good horses as 12f guns have the speed advantage over him and he is better served at 16f where he can make it a marathon. Posting a 80 SP on yielding turf at 16f last time out proves he is better at gut busting trips and I believe this will be too quick for him.
PP #4 – MANDURAMA (sedation) 13/1
Fantastic Light colt had his tail pulled up and his butt spanked last time out by 4yo champion Lex Luthor and my stable champ Freeze at 12f in G1 company by over 38 lengths after a solid 2nd place in allowance company at 12f with a SP of 98. Has massive stamina influences through Nijinsky II, Blushing Groom and Ribot but appears to be an allowance horse at best based on his graded performance. Drew a wide barrier in that run and was never in the race and as he prefers to race closer to the lead he may be slightly better off here.
PP #5 – DIRECTOR (snappa4) 3/1
4yo Empire Maker colt bred to run and win G1 12f races such as this. From the mighty Down Under Residency and having his final run before Smackdown, Director is in brutal form and may just continue his run of wins to make it 3 graded wins on the trot. Beat a small field last time out in G1 company but those he conquered included three graded winners and two grade placed runners who have all been in good form. Has run wire to wire in his last two and this should suit him again here as there appears to be a lack of genuine speed allowing him to control the race. Jockey A Craig has 89 wins at 22..4% this year and will certainly help his chances – Go Director.
PP #6 – TETE OF OZ(IRE) (jacobsson) 6/1
4yo Moon Ballard colt and stable mate of Tete Dialysis. Raced on turf his first 7 starts and switched to dirt for his following 14 runs in which he was given distance and won three races. Has been swapped back to turf in last three runs and given some distance for two stakes wins at 12 then 10f before being smacked last time out at 10f in G1 company by 10f specialist – Rapid Grey. Tough run then but 12f appears better for him but I cannot see him upsetting Director. Jockey this week is Jones who is certainly not the pick of the bunch at 17 wins at 10.2%. Prefer others.
PP #7 – SPANISH HEART (noia) 6/1
Looks to have defied breeding to not only get 11f + but to win twice at 13 and twice at 14f with his last two runs resulting in a stakes win at 14f then a G3 win at 14f last time out. Beat two million dollar plus horses in that and also finished well clear of Acid as well and looks as if he may run a cheeky race here. Jockey is a dud and will do him no favours and I think the drop back to 12f is the wrong way as others will have a advantage over him at this trip compared to a 14 – 16f marathon. Ranked 39 in turf long but may come undone at this shorter trip.
PP #8 – REAL VALDES (lou64) 16/1
Long odds and probably should be longer as he doesn’t appear able to match it at this level at this trip. Seems well past his best and is suprising that he actually can extend out to 14 – 16f. back to back stakes places at 16 then 14f last time out and I think he may be best at that distance against the listed opposition as some of these graded 12f turf runners are very good and may run him off his legs. Dud jockey also doesn’t help his chances.
PP #9 – ACID (tbgifted2) 6/1
As with all tbgifted runners he has a healthy dose of stamina in him. 2 stakes wins and 2 graded placings on dirt and 3 stakes wins on turf is a very handy galloper but it appears Acid may not have the zip of some of the better turfers at 12f. Deep closer who has not been able to get the job done in his last three outings in graded company but rocketed home from 15 lengths down in listed class to win by over 3 lengths in his start prior to that. Outside gate suits and although he may not have the zip of the top liners, I think that against this field Acid is every chance to hit the board if he can prevent getting too far back and rip out another 100 SP. Jockey has 37wins at 12.7% this year and his 11 years experience should help in the stretch.
Tips:
Director 1st, Acid 2nd, Simulation King 3rd and Tete Dialysis 4th.
Good luck to all!
