Welcome to Epspm Downs on this mid-June Saturday, and you join us at probably the best time of the racing year. The early season classics have been run, we know who’s for real and who’s not and the championship races pitting all ages against each other are getting underway. We are going to take a look at the Grade III Goatd That Faint Juvenile, ove 6.5f on the turf for all horses. On morning line odds it looks as though most of the field have a chance, so lets take a look-
NOT A DAY GOES BY(KY) (EL PRADO(IRE) x OCTAGONAL(NZ) x BLUEBIRD) mclaughlin
A second place on his only run so far with a 56 sp, he’s bred for the turf but at what trip? Out of a class G mare who was best over dirt routes and a sire who gets more routers than sprinters but only at around a 60/40 ratio.
POSITIVES- Nicely bred, should be some speed in the pedigree.
NEGATIVES- Only average sp first time up, big rise in class, is this his surface and does he have the speed?
SHACKLES OF WAR(KY) (SIR SHACKLETON x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE) x ROBERTO) pye
One run and one win with a decent 66sp. Out of a class G turf sprinting mare and a somewhat obscure sire who hasn’t set the sim alight in his first year, although he is by Miswaki. Looks as though he should stay the trip and should improve.
POSITIVES- Decent first time up, dam bred for turf sprints and should improve.
NEGATIVES- Sire looks a dirt influence, is more of a route influence(through Miswaki) and is this his surface?
RELAUNCH THE GOLD(TUR) (STRIKE THE GOLD x LEO CASTELLI x RELAUNCH) babygirlz
One win and one second from two runs, good 80sp to win maiden but dropped 11 points on second run. Looks like the trip will be fine, another sp like that first would put him right in the picture. Out of a class D dirt sprinting mare.
POSITIVES- That first run, dam was a sprinter, sire has been more of a sprinting influence last three years.
NEGATIVES- Whole pedigree screams dirt, big drop in sp from first to second run.
DYNA IN DUBAI(KY) (DYNAFORMER x HALO x NEARCTIC) hardygirl
A third and a first from his first two runs with some improvement from one run to the next. The 70 sp is decent but he looked a 5f horse at this stage those first two runs. Scratch bred, the DS is a route influence as is the Sire, but he does prefer the turf and produces two year olds.
POSITIVES- Has improved with each run and 70 sp is decent enough, good turf sprinter blood from sire.
NEGATIVES- Is the improvement enough, can he handle the extra 1.5f at this stage, 70 sp won’t be enough here.
BOOM GATE(ENG) (RAINBOW QUEST x THEATRICAL(IRE) x DANEHILL) thegeneral
Love the breeding, although bred for 10-12f. Should love the turf and is two for two with a stakes win and an 82sp to boot. Definetely gets the trip and only a little further improvement will see him walk all over the rest. Out of a class E turf router mare. Going to take some beating.
POSITIVES- Aleady won a stakes, that 82sp, bred superbly, looks the part
NEGATIVES- None to date
BLOW MY BLOCK(AUS) (FASTNET ROCK (AUS) x DANZERO (AUS) x KYLIAN) corky
One win from three races and the sp has declined with each run. The sp of the first was a decent 65 but thats his best and some 20 points less than will be needed here. Scratch bred from a bargain sire.
POSITVES- Has won a race, prefers turf.
NEGATIVES- Sp’s not good enough, seems to be regressing, no breeding.
KING OF INDY(SAF) (KING OF KINGS (IRE) x A.P. INDY x MILL REEF) roberto
Already two from three with a stakes win and bred to be an early two year old for turf. Stakes win was with a good 74sp and will get the trip no problem. From a class C dirt routing mare and a sire that does produce dirt runners as well as turf. Should make the money with a little improvement.
POSITVES- Stakes winner, good 74 sp, sprinting two year old pedigree.
NEGATIVES- That stakes was in a restricted race, will he prefr dirt or turf?
SHIROCCO MOLE(ENG) (SHIROCCO (GER) x GRAND SLAM x MISWAKI) lglong2y
One win and two seconds from three races, but they were all maidens and the sp has been the same for each run. From a class G turf sprinting mare and a sire with only three winners who should produce late maturing routers.
POSITIVES- Has won a race, should prefer turf.
NEGATIVES- Sp has not improved, not bred to be a two year old.
TERRI IRWIN(KY) (LANGFUHR x SUNDAY SILENCE x BRAVE SHOT(GB)) hardygirl
Has one win from two runs and that was on dirt. Decent sp’s of 71 and 72 and the turf run was probably better. Will need to improve but that seems likely back on turf. From a class H no win mare, and a sprinting sire who gets turf and dirt runners.
POSITIVES- Decent sp’s, bred to be a sprinter.
NEGATIVES- Dam more of a dirt influence, will need to improve.
FLYIN’ NOVERRE(IRE) (NOVERRE (IRE) x FLYING SPUR(AUS) x GIANT’S CAUSEWAY (IRE)) pogdig1
A win and a second from three runs, with good improvement from each run. Decent 73 sp latest from a class G turf sprinting mare and a sire who produces sprinting two year olds. Only has to improve a little to figure.
POSITIVES- Bred to sprint, improving, second in a stakes already.
NEGATIVES- Sire alsp produces dirt runners.
ZIGGY RULES(IRE) (AUSSIE RULES x SWAIN (IRE) x DANZIG) overbrooks
Has won two from three including a stakes but no real sp improvement. From a class C turf routing mare and a first year sire who should like turf but only has one winner. Improvement required.
POSITIVES- Won two, including a stakes, will get the trip and should love turf.
NEGATIVES- Sp’s not quite good enough, sire may be stouter influence.
CONCLUSION- Lots of intersting runners but only one winner for me- BOOM GATE(ENG)
