Breeders’ Bowl Race Results Recap
Here’s a recap of the big weekend in California featuring all of the Breeders’ Bowl races. Weahter was great and so were the results!
TURF SPRINT
Aram Hallo, who saw a four race win streak come to an end in his last start, the Sprint Cup, recovered by winning the race as the second choice by ¾-length. He sat midfield in the early going before cranking up the speed and overtaking the front runners.
Holes in My Pants made a late move from the 7th spot that he held most of the race to join the winner in the sprint through the stretch to finish second.
Auridon ran ninth throughout the race and got things going rather late but was able to get things going to capture the third spot.
JUVENILE TURF
Haute Monde, like Aram Hallo in the Turf Sprint above, also had a 4 race win streak that concluded in the Middlepark Stakes leading into the Bowl. He went all out and battled to get to the front and once he secured that position he was not giving it up and did not taking the win by 1 ¾ lengths at 9/1.
Second place finisher Weaver’s Warrior, the betting choice in the race, broke slowly from the gate and may a nice move through the stretch but could not catch the winner.
King Kam Sepoy was further back, some four lengths off the winner and second betting choice in the race was able to advance from his midfield positioning to get a piece of the pie.
DIRT MILE
Longshot at 23/1, Royal Navy Ship came right back after testing the turf waters in an allowance race which he won with an impressive speed. He came from 7th at the half and keep cruising and was able to overtake the favorite in deep stretch to win by a half stride.
Pace setting and favorite Tap Suzy battled early for the lead and as he led the field to the stretch, had a near three length lead which looked very comfy but could not hold off the longshot that ran her down.
Coward’s Punch put in a very late effort waiting a bit too long to make his move but was worthwhile to snag third by a small amount.
FILLY JUVY TURF
Wiring the field for only the second time in her career, Sadie Jane made things look easy as she toppled her foes by just under 2 lengths at 8/1 and the third choice amongst bettors.
Frontline Storm ran near the front runners but could not catch up to the winner and settled for second.
Makers Dreams made a late move from the back half of the field to slide into the third spot.
F and M Sprint
Deep Impact made doubters into believers as she rumbled to the front, took held a 4 length lead at the ¾-pole that her foes found too overwhelming to ship into and Deep crossed the line nearly 2 strides ahead as a 13/1 longshot in the field.
Angel’s Trumpets, the favorite in the group, ended her three race win streak as she made her token late run but it wasn’t enough for the second place finisher to hit paydirt.
Extreme longshot, and doubtful contender Bugle Meerup made a solid late charge and rallied into third at 33/1 odds.
DIRT MARATHON
Limestone played the role of stalker as he sat second, dropping a few lengths off the pace setter and made the perfect move to advance to the lead and draw off with a better than 2 lengths win at 8/1.
From way, way back, New King In Town launched a charge rapidly picking off foes before running out of time and settling for second.
Retreat to Kabul went straight to the lead, drew away from the field but could not keep the momentum going and was run down by the two listed above pushing him back to third.
CLASSIC
A very slight favorite by mere nickels and dimes, Biggest Impact showed he was properly named as he had the biggest impact in the biggest Bowl race toppling the field at 8/1 by a solid 2+ lengths. He took the third spot early on and stalked the early leaders and proceeded to make the biggest move of his career which had the biggest impact of his career winning his biggest race of his career.
Low Fidelity was not expected to do much, or anything at all in this race at 35/1 odds but found all sorts of daylight as he maneuvered between horses and won a photo for the place position.
Long White Snow had some spunk and made a game late effort in a run through the stretch and finished third, narrowly missing out on the second spot.
TURF
The highest speed of the Bowl races with a 119 was earned by Dariel who was also the 7/1 choice in this race. This now Hall of Famer who just pushed his career earnings over $10 million made amends from his last years 9th place finish in the Bowl race. Making a gutsy move to go to the lead, Dariel eventually took command of the field, drawing off to a 4 stride advantage before nearly being caught at the wire.
Rey Del Llano had the longest distance to make up after falling to the rear of the field he made up about 12 strides from the ¾-pole to miss by an aggravating half stride.
The Facts ran an even third throughout the race and turned out to be the third best in the event.
SPRINT
Longshots were the first pair to cross the line with Buzzing Quality hitting the line first at 19/1 and now sports a three race win streak. The win of 1 ¼ lengths was impressive for this runner that sat fifth early on and out ran his foes.
He’s in Shape, also at 19/1, was in very good shape and made an effort for the lead in the stretch but was shut down by the winner.
Favorite The Black of Drogo finished 10th last year in the Sprint and looked to do better. He did fine here but after running a foursome of speeds of 114 and up could only muster a 110 speed which earned him a third.
MILE
Shady King was a questionable runner with gamblers who sent him off at a doubtful 12/1 odds only to witness him chalking a 118 speed and rallying to a two stride win after laying quietly behind the pair of early runners.
Calypso Moon followed Shady in making the move through the stretch and was rewarded with a second place finish.
Race Favorite Last Hurrah Barb got pushed back further in the field than he is accustomed to, trailing by eight at the half which was too much to make up. He made up enough to get into third, just by a slim amount.
JUVENILE
After winning the Sparkling Wine leading into this race, Ion My Way duplicated that effort in exactly the same fashion. He sat fourth early on, made his way up a spot by the three quarter pole and then advanced to the wire on top. It took a photo to insure this 11/1 runner was the best in the race.
Diamond Murphy settled into a midfield position and launched a late attack to miss at the wire as the second selection in the race.
Turbulence T looked to win his second consecutive G1 race and nearly did so, but was a quarter stride short when he reached the wire after finding favorable positioning near the front which he held throughout the race.
F and M Turf
Koko’s Kitten, who was barely the 6/1 favorite amongst a trio set off at those odds proved to be the one to go with as she ran a monster race in this 11 furlong distance. She went straight to the rear of the field, spotting the leader a shocking 20 lengths at the half. She overcame this humongous disadvantage and impressively rallied through the middle of the stretch to win by a half stride.
Pun for All Ages did not see the winner closing as she got to the top late in the race and thought she was on her way to stretching her win streak to four straight only to see Koko’s Kitten fire by.
Atomic Avenger nearly provided a surprise to Pun for All Ages as she crept into the picture late and just missed the second spot by a slight margin.
JUVENILE FILLY
Got Street Smarts used her smarts to squeeze through horses after running in midfield in the early stages to work her way into a tight photo and earning the win, her second straight G1 win and at odds of 10/1.
11/1 Siege of Yorktown tried to make this the ‘Siege of the Bowl’ as she came running from the backside of the field and made a very tight finish at the line as she was eventually ruled to be second by the stewards.
Take What’s Given was loved by the bettors who sent her to the gate as the 6/1 favorite. She was competitive throughout the event pressing and eventually gaining the lead but the early battle took a bit of a toll as she was caught late and finished third by a small ¾-length.
DISTAFF
I was not surprised to see longshot Treacherously II at 20/1 win this race. She has had a very good season and was punished in odds for her poor performance leading into this race. She tossed that aside as she put in an amazing run from the rear of the field, some 13 strides back at the half and clawed her way to win by ¾ of a stride.
Internet Sensation ran close to the front of the field throughout the race and eventually took the lead only to be outrun in the stretch.
Sia ran midfield for a good chunk of the event and passed by tiring foes to get the third reward.
Good work Roxy.
Thanks for the effort !
